Preface
This installation guide gives quick step-by-step procedures for the installation and removal of the Metalogix Storage Expert tool.
Audience
The guide is geared towards system administrators that are looking to improve overall SharePoint
performance by applying best practices for BLOB maintenace. The Metalogix Storage Expert tool locates areas of possible improvements.

Installing Metalogix Storage Expert
Prerequisites
The Storage Expert software requires an instance of the "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application"
service to run on the server. Make sure to install Storage Expert on a system hosting the SharePoint web front for your farm in order to function as designed. The following error message will be shown, if the prerequisites are not met:
Data Processing Times
One terabyte of data takes approximately 2 to 3 minutes to process with Storage Expert based on the following system resources used during testing:

License Activation and Installation
The Storage Expert Installation Wizard first goes through a license activation procedure. Online and Offline license activation is available for this product.
Follow these general steps to initiate the Wizard:
1. Open any SharePoint web front end in your farm.
2. Navigate to the directory where you extracted the installer.
3. Run the Metalogix Storage Expert executable to start the setup process.
4. At the welcome screen of the installation wizard select "Install Storage Expert Console".

Online Activation
To activate the Storage Expert software online follow these steps:
1. After selecting "Install Storage Expert Console" the Activate page opens.
2. Enter the license key for Storage Expert.
3. Choose Online Activation and proceed to the next step or Offline Activation and follow instruction for the offline procedure.
4. Click the Next button to activate the license.
5. A successful activation will be shown with "Your License is now activated." Click the Next button to proceed with the installation of Storage Expert.

Offline Activation
You can activate your Storage Expert license offline by requesting an activation key file from Metalogix. This file can then be used to activate Storage Expert.
NOTE: Because the request for the activation key file must be submitted via the Metalogix website the request must be submitted from a machine that has internet access.
To activate the product offline, follow these steps:
1. On the Activate page, choose Offline Activation and click the Next button.
2. Select whether you would like to copy the activation key to your clipboard or save the key to a file.
3. Either paste the your license key to the clipboard or save the key to a file.
4. Navigate to a system with internet access and go to Metalogix.com/OfflineActivation from a machine that has internet access.
5. On the Offline Activation page, paste or upload the license key file:

6. The Metalogix website will generate a file for upload into the Storage Expert activation wizard. Use the browse button to navigate to the file location.
7. Click the Activate button.
8. A successful activation will be shown with "Your License is now activated." Click the Next button to proceed with the installation of Storage Expert.

Installation
Once your Storage Expert license has been activated either on- or offline and you selected Next on the license activation confirmation screen, the installation wizard enters the actual product installation procedure:
1. The Install Wizard Welcome page opens. Click the Next button to proceed.
2. On the License Agreement page, accept the terms of the license agreement and click the Next button to proceed.
3. On the Install page keep the default installation directory or change it by browsing to a custom location. Click the Install button to start the installation.

4. Once the installation has finished, click the Complete button.

Uninstall Storage Expert
In order to uninstall Storage Expert follow these steps:
1. Start the uninstall application using one of the following methods:
a. (Windows Server 2003) In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
b. (Windows Server 2008) In Control Panel, under Programs, open Programs and Features.
c. (Windows Server 2012) In Control Panel, under Programs, open Programs and Features.
2. Select Storage Expert in the list of programs, and select Uninstall.
3. An uninstall wizard will appear, select Remove.
The installation executable also has a repair and remove option, if run on a server already hosting Storage Expert.
To use either option, follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Repair Storage Expert
The Repair option of the Storage Expert Installation Wizard needs to run, if nodes are removed after the initial setup of Storage Expert or if other changes caused modifications to the ReportConfig.xml file. Storage Expert may not work as expected, if the ReportConfig.xml file is compromised due to modifications.
