WHAT IS ON DEMAND FILE SERVER?
The three most common technology challenges facing every small business are data storage, information sharing and computer backup.
Egnyte is an on-demand file server which lets your End Users share files with colleagues, vendors and partners while automatically backing up files and folders on PCs. The on-demand file server solution eliminates the cost and complexity typically associated with buying, installing and maintaining hardware servers, VPNs and FTP sites. It removes these barriers and lets small businesses take advantage of technology that help them grow whilst protecting their valuable data against loss and corruption.
The file server stores files in a folder hierarchy and includes policy enforcement capabilities, letting your End Users control who has access. They can also set files to read-only or determine who has permission to modify or delete files. While the data backup portion of the service provides automatic, continuous backup to the Egnyte file server, customers can also select the files and folders on their PCs that they want protected.

You can define any number of folders and sub-folders in the File Server. Each folder can be set with varying permission levels for people within or outside your company, providing a secure online storage location for all your files.
Web & desktop access
Egnyte provides secure access to your files using a web browser and from a mapped drive on your desktop. You can drag and drop files and edit documents in Egnyte using My Computer on Windows or Finder on a Mac.
Support for large files
Egnyte is optimized for easy upload and storage of large files and data (e.g. medical images, engineering drawings, web digital assets) across a range of internet connection speeds.
Powerful search
Egnyte has built in search capabilities, allowing you to quickly find and retrieve any information. It supports a wide variety of search techniques, for e.g. key word search, find similar files, match file names etc.
Continuous data backup

For example, you can create one set of folders to support document collaboration with your employees and create another set of folders for online file sharing with your customers. The permissions can be set such that your customers cannot view the employee folders and vice versa.
Automatic file versioning
Egnyte automatically creates versions as files change so you don't need to change filenames to capture versions. Since Egnyte never "overwrites" one person’s version with another’s, you get a complete audit trail of who changed a file and when they changed it. This greatly enhances collaboration on business documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Egnyte Local Cloud is an always available, local cache of files from the On Demand File server. The Egnyte Local Cloud solution provides the following capabilities:

Easy to install
You can download and install the Egnyte Local Cloud (ELC) software on any inexpensive off the shelf storage device or on your computer hard drive.
Off-line access
Egnyte Local Cloud provides you with off-line access to your files. If your internet connection is not available, you can directly access the files on the ELC. When the internet connectivity is restored, the ELC synchronizes the changed files to the On Demand File Server.
Faster access to large files
Certain application files can be large, for example Photoshop files or CAD drawings. Accessing them locally is much faster than accessing them over the internet.
Not only does the ELC allow you to edit these files locally, it also synchronizes the changes to the On Demand File Server. You need not maintain versions of the files, since Egnyte automatically creates versions.
Work Locally, Access Globally
When you are in the office, you can edit your files on the ELC. When you are out of the office, you can access these files via the On Demand File Server. Similarly, when you have distributed teams, the ELC combined with On Demand File Server, provides you seamless access to these files.

Total access control
All access to data within Egnyte is governed by access rights. Every person accessing Egnyte is authenticated for their username and password and also the domain (custom web address) that they are logging in to. The administrator of your account can define a folder structure on your File Server with varying read/write/delete access permissions. Also, you can invite suppliers, customers, business partners to share data with complete control over their access rights.
