TIDEWATER PLANTATION COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

TIDEWATER PLANTATION Community Association

For an emergency call 911, not the Tidewater Gatehouse

President’s Message

Cathy Weis, BOD President

It has been so good to see so many Tidewater residents out and about recently, enjoying each other’s company and venturing out to the beach, pools and restaurants. As we are all trying hard to get back to normal, your Tidewater Board has decided to reopen all our amenities to normal capacity.

However, if you are feeling ill, have a compromised immune system, or are just concerned, please continue to limit your activities to what feels comfortable for you.

Our first “public” yard sale was a big success! Forty Tidewater residents participated, and we believe we had about 160 outside visitors attend over the two days. The Yard Sale Committee led by Marylou Convery will continue to build on this success for next year. The committee, the Tidewater Board, Management, our Safety & Security Committee and Watchman service all worked together as a team to ensure success and safety. Expect an even better event next year!

A new development is being planned on the property abutting Clipper Road known as Esperanza. The new development will be called Hope Pointe. The developer is finalizing the plans. We know our desire for lower density was met as the total units were reduced from 375 to 251. These will be single family homes and townhouses. The developer has promised to review the plan with us once it is finalized and we may invite him to come speak at one of our future community meetings.

All the costs have been submitted for renovating our Amenity Center and the Budget and Finance Committee is working on the best financing options. We expect to share the plan and seek your opinion and vote by fall.

Our clay tennis courts have been completely redone and look beautiful. Tennis resumed on Thursday, June 10. We will also be replacing the fencing and planting some additional shrubs along the perimeter. If you are not a tennis player, by all means take a walk and have a look.

We are now within hurricane season which runs from June 1 to November 30. Please familiarize yourself with the evacuation and home preparedness plans. Should there be a threat of a hurricane for our region, we will put alerts on our website at tidewaterplantation.org, and you will find hurricane preparedness information and evacuation routes by visiting the North Myrtle Beach site at NMB.us and click on Hurricane Preparedness. Also, some of you may be familiar with our Good Samaritan program run by resident, Jimmy Payne. Over 30 Tidewater residents are members who volunteer to look after their neighbors’ properties during a storm. There is a central email address to send pictures of damage at [email protected], so our Management company can notify owners who may be away or have evacuated. Our tree service, Leif’s, will remove any trees and branches blocking our roadways immediately.

We keep the Cassels Building open as needed as there is a generator there, where your phones can be charged, and you may even get a cup of coffee. If you are interested in joining the Good Samaritan Team, contact Jimmy Payne at

[email protected] to see how you may be of service.

Elections for two open Board positions are coming up in September. You will receive your proxy packages in the mail in August. Be sure to vote for the candidates of your choice and if you are interested in being a candidate, please contact the Nominating Committee at [email protected].

Stay safe and enjoy your summer.

Property Management Message

Tori Perano, Senior Community Manager, CMCA, AMS What a wonderful summer we are having with gorgeous weather! I am proud to announce that from the blood drive held for Tidewater Plantation Homeowners in May, a total of 42 lives were saved! The blood donated goes back to our local hospitals in Horry County! A huge thank you to everyone who came out and participated to give back to the community!

Your Curb Appeal Checklist

The curb appeal of our Community depends on each resident maintaining his or her property as completely as possible. For those who keep their homes and yards well maintained, the Association thanks you for your efforts and good examples!

We encourage all residents to pay particular attention to the following maintenance items:

•Exterior paint: Paint is a quick and easy way to keep your property looking fresh, new and clean. It will also protect against corrosion, weathering, and insects.

•Landscaping: Landscaping is extremely important to our community’s curb appeal. Please remove dead plants and branches. Keep shrubs properly pruned and flowers well- tended. Keep yards free of leaves and remove grass clippings.

•Roofs: Please ensure your roofs are properly maintained and cleaned.

•Driveways: Please repair cracks, pitted or flaking surfaces, and other concrete problems. Remove weeds from sidewalk joints and debris from driveways and sidewalks. Do not use driveways for storage or auto repairs.

•Gutters and downspouts: Please keep them cleaned out to prevent overflowing and flooding.

•Window and decks: Please replace worn or damaged fixtures, check fittings for stability and repaint as needed.

If you are not receiving emails, please contact the Management Office right away at 843-663-3500 so we can ensure we have your email address on file. Also, please pick up after your pets and be courteous of your neighbors.

Thank you for keeping our community looking sharp and a beautiful place to live!

Parking

It has been brought to the attention of the Board that part time residents are storing vehicles on campus when away from the property long term or between visits. The Board is asking that residents who choose to leave a vehicle on property move their vehicles to the back row parking areas located near Buildings 53, 58, and 59 or in between buildings away from the immediate front face of the building. All vehicles on campus must have current registration and be operational. As additional concerns are received, the Board

gathering non-perishable food items, water, and checking your insurance policies. Additional tips and actions include putting copies of important documents in a safe place, taking pictures of the inside of your home to include personal belongings, along with creating an evacuation plan for your family and pets. You can also check with the Department of Emergency Management in the case of impending weather for updates, and suggestions at https://www.horrycounty.org/

Happy 4th of July! If you want to see fireworks, please check the North Myrtle Beach website at https://nmb.us for a listing of all scheduled firework events. Fireworks are not allowed in Tidewater Plantation or in the City of North Myrtle Beach.

Please make sure that you are not leaving coolers, bikes, towels, etc. in the front of units, porches, or outside of the back screened porch. With the warmer weather, it usually brings spring cleaning inside your units.

If you have large items that may be useful to someone else, please call the area donation centers; they will gladly pick up from you. If you have large items that need to be disposed of, please call the City of North Myrtle Beach; they have a special pick-up service and will let you know their schedule for your area. Do not place these items in the compactor area as it will cost the community to have them removed. If disposing of small cardboard boxes, please flatten before placing in compactor. We ask all Owners at Tidewater Ridge to please notify your tenants of the compactor rules. Only Owners are allowed pets which must be on a leash and cleaned up after.

Tidewater Yard Sale

Marylou Convery

The 2021 Tidewater Yard Sale was a BIG success due to the great teamwork from our Board of Directors, Security Staff, the Management Company, FirstResidential Services, and the 40 + participants here at Tidewater.

This year we were permitted to open our yard sale to the public and at least 160 cars passed through our gates.

Everyone was out and about enjoying the perfect spring weather. Any suggestions or comments, please contact Pat White at [email protected] or Chris Wynkoop at [email protected].

Tastebuds

Marty Turnauer

Tastebuds is resuming this fall!

For the numerous new Tidewater residents since our last dinners, Tastebuds is an informal way to meet in small groups of 6-9 for brunch or dinner and a great way to meet your neighbors, share food, information, form new friendships, and have an enjoyable time while dining on delicious menus. The host of the group selects a menu from a choice of two and the other participants are assigned a side dish, salad or dessert to bring to the gathering.

Tastebuds meets 3 times during the year, fall, winter and spring, and you may participate however your schedule allows.

Fall dinner sign up deadline is Sunday, August 15. For all participants, there will be a group kickoff dinner being planned in September.

Since our last Tastebuds dinners, my computer was hacked, and all my past participant lists, and information has been compromised. So, I ask everyone to please email me if you are interested in joining Tastebuds again.

For any new community members, if you have any questions, please call Marty at (843) 504-5468 or email at mturnaue@

yahoo.com. I hope you will join us.

What We Are Reading

Ridge Crouch

We normally don’t make recommendations for books that put you to sleep, but if you wake in the middle of the night tossing and turning, try this trick. Find a comfortable chair, a soft comforter, and a pair of earbuds. Download “Atonement”

by Ian McEwan and start listening. Calmly narrated by Jill Tanner, this soothing story will have you asleep in no time.

This month the TW Book Clubs are reading:

The Book Club Beauties - “St. Maybe” by Anne Tyler.

Tyler’s plot explores the ways ordinary people react to disastrous events with quietly heroic behavior. The main character sacrifices his own freedom to fulfill a lifelong moral obligation.

Not So Serious Bookies - “Just Mercy” by Bryan

Stevenson. The author is a young lawyer and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative defending the most desperate and needy. It makes an inspiring argument for compassion in the pursuit of true justice.

OTWMBC - “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson.

Wilkerson chronicles the decades long migration of black citizens who fled to northern and western cities in search of a better life.

The Page Turners - “The Queen of Paris” by Pamela Binnings Ewen. Legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel is famous for her perfume and little black dress. She will do anything for her company’s survival in Paris under the iron fist of German rule.

The Studs - “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder. Described as the greatest American play ever written, it tells the story of the fictional town of Grover’s Corners between 1901-1913 through the eyes of its residents.

Personal Recommendation - “The Plot” by Jean Hanff Korelitz. A promising author with writer’s block steals a “sure thing” plot from a dead student. His misdeed leads to wealth and fame, but an anonymous threat of exposure drives the story. When the final piece clicks into place, what you see is the last thing you would expect. A great read.

Tom Walker Memorial Tree

Gary Bulger

Tom Walker, a founding member of The Studs Book Club, recently passed away. In Tom’s memory, the Club planted a Weeping Cherry in one of his favorite places beside the pond at Teal Lake.
