Situation
Situation
As of April 18, 2021, Sarasota County is reporting 31,387 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 29,854 Sarasota County residents and 1,533 non-Florida
residents. There have been 805 deaths reported in Sarasota County to date. Confirmed cases range in age from 0 to 105, with 13,935 men and
15,761 women testing positive with a median age of 48.
The Florida Department of Health is currently reporting a total of 2,168,901 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Florida.
As of April 18, 223,056 people have been vaccinated in Sarasota County this includes 82,256 first doses and 140,800 who have completed the
series. The COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Sarasota Square Mall is conducting a first and second dose clinic today.

Discussion
A frontal boundary across the central Florida peninsula will meander about through Wednesday. This front combined with upper level energy moving over the region will keep rain chances high across all of west central and southwest Florida through mid week with some locally heavy rainfall possible. In addition to the rain some strong to severe storms will be possible with damaging winds and hail possible.

· Today...Showers with a chance of thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds and hail. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs in the mid 70’s north, and upper 70s to lower 80’s central and south. West winds 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts near thunderstorms.
· Tuesday...Showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds and hail. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs in the mid 70’s north, and upper 70s to lower 80s central and south. South to southwest winds 5 to 10 mph with higher gusts near thunderstorms becoming west in the afternoon.
· Wednesday...Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the morning, then becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Northwest winds around 10 mph.

Public Health Advisories.
The Public Health Advisory provides the following recommendations:
1. All individuals in Florida should wear masks in any setting where social distancing is not possible, unless any of the following apply:
o A child is under two years of age;
o An individual has one or more medical conditions or disabilities that prevent wearing a face covering;
o An individual is obtaining a service involving the nose or face for which temporary removal of the face covering is necessary to perform the service;
o An individual works in a profession where use of a face covering will not be compatible with the duties of the profession; or
o An individual is engaged in outdoor work or recreation with appropriate social distancing in place.

The County Administrator extended the emergency declaration through April 21, 2021. The EOC will continue to monitor this dynamic situation and support government operations and partners to ensure resources are available when needed. Please remember to complete a Daily Disaster Logs and follow submission instructions from your Disaster Log representative. Curbside permitting services continues to be offered at both 1001 Sarasota Center Blvd., Sarasota and 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice.

All personnel should ensure staff is situationally aware of the spread of COVID-19 and personal protective measures to reduce or prevent influenza like illnesses.
