This week at Saint Paul’s

Sunday Morning Offerings

• Worship @ 10:00 a.m. | In-Person and Online

Weekday Worship Offerings

• Evening Prayer on Facebook Live | Monday through Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m.

Worship Gathering Updates | • No registration required • No social distancing • Masks still required

• Visit www.stpaulsrva.org/indoorworship for more details and options

Why are we still wearing masks during worship? The safety of our congregation is a priority for your clergy, staff, and vestry. We have no way of knowing who has been vaccinated and who has not been vaccinated. To ensure the safety of all, especially our children, we continue to wear masks as we gather in larger crowds for worship, we will continue to wear masks while worshiping indoors, regardless of vaccination status. We do not wish to exclude people who have not been vaccinated (including children under 12), nor do we want to ask for proof of vaccination before admitting anyone to public worship. We also encourage everyone who is able to get vaccinated.

Summer Organ Festival | Join us for the Summer Organ Festival at All Saints' & St. Paul's Churches. In-person or livestreamed here on Facebook. Hear organists Scott Hayes (All Saints, Richmond), John Alexander (First Presbyterian, Greensboro, NC), Christopher Reynolds (St. Paul's, Richmond), and Shiloh Roby (Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati) on two of Richmond's finest pipe organs. The recitals are at noon.

• Thursday, July 22 at St. Paul's Church

Eucharistic Visitation | Eucharistic visitation has long been one of the ways that the St. Paul’s community extends the Holy Table to include and welcome all those who by reason of illness or infirmity are unable to be physically present with the assembly during the Celebration of Holy Eucharist on Sundays. Would you or someone you know like to receive a Eucharistic Visit

Nametags Available in Narthex | Let’s welcome one another by name! As we regather in person with our masks still on, having a nametag will be helpful for long-time and new members alike. We are in the process of creating a more convenient nametag pick up, however, until then, you can find the nametags on the east side of the narthex (entry to the church). Make sure to swing by to find your nametag prior to the service. If you do not yet have a nametag or have misplaced it, write you name on the sheet provided to have a nametag made and for the time being use one of the blank temporary nametag labels available.

Room Created to Hold Memorial Plaques | Pursuant to vestry action, over the past few years, ten memorial plaques were removed from St. Paul’s worship space due to their Confederate imagery and association with Lost Cause ideology. The removed plaques are available for viewing on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment (fee for non-members). To view, contact Carter Johann at (804) 643-3589 or cjohann@stpaulsrva. org.

College Shower for Armstrong Leadership Student | Join us in supporting this year's Armstrong Leadership student graduate get ready for college. Kasiana Thompson, a graduate of Armstrong High School, will attend Reynolds College in the fall. Here is a list of items that would help Kasiana get a jump start on her college career: Laptop, plastic storage bins, printer and printer paper, stapler, notebooks, hangers, binders, pens, pencils and gift cards. oe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the Lord. Therefore thus

says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who shepherd my people: It is you who have scattered my flock, and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. So I will attend to you for your evil doings, says the Lord. Then I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply. I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them, and they shall not fear any longer, or be dismayed, nor shall any be missing, says the Lord. The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. And this is the name by which he will be called: “The Lord is our righteousness.”

tHe gradual: psalm 89:20-21, 28-34 Tunc locutus es

The Psalm is read responsively by half verse.

I

have found David my servant; *

with my holy oil have I anointed him.

My hand will hold him fast *

and my arm will make him strong.

I will keep my love for him for ever, *

and my covenant will stand firm for him.

I will establish his line for ever *

and his throne as the days of heaven."

"If his children forsake my law *

and do not walk according to my judgments;

If they break my statutes *

and do not keep my commandments;

I will punish their transgressions with a rod *

and their iniquities with the lash;

But I will not take my love from him, *

nor let my faithfulness prove false.

I will not break my covenant, *

nor change what has gone out of my lips.

tHe epistle reading Ephesians 2:11-22

R

emember that at one time you Gentiles by birth, called “the uncircumcision” by those who are called

“the circumcision” —a physical circumcision made in the flesh by human hands— remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.

Gospeler The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark.

People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

T

he apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to

them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.

ebelieVeinOne gOd, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and

unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Presider As we gather as God’s people, mindful of God’s faithfulness, clinging to God’s mercy, and trusting

in God’s forgiveness, let us pray for ourselves, our neighbors, our institutions, and our earth, saying, Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Intercessor Caring God, you sent Jesus to minister to people who were harassed and helpless; as we struggle

with diseases of body and spirit, surround us with your healing power that we may become channels of your love in your world. Lord, in your mercy,

People hear our prayer.

Intercessor Jesus, you show us true service in times of rest and times of action; open our ears to hear your call

to us, and give us wisdom and courage to find peace in living faithfully as your community of love. Lord, in your mercy,

People hear our prayer.

Intercessor Loving God, you have created a world of diversity and beauty; open our eyes to see your hand at

work in the world around us and give us renewed hope to become joyful messengers of your justice. Lord, in your mercy,

People hear our prayer.

Intercessor Jesus, you reached out in compassion to heal those around you; give comfort and help to all

who are suffering and in need: the lonely, the marginalized, the homeless, the unemployed, the fearful, those struggling with disease, especially N., and those we name now. Lord, in your mercy,

People hear our prayer.

Intercessor Faithful Shepherd, you lead us through the valley of the shadow of death into the light of

your resurrection; give comfort to the bereaved and eternal peace to those who now rest in the Father’s arms: victims of terror and violence, those who have died in the pandemic, and especially N., and those we name now. Lord, in your mercy,

People hear our prayer.

Presider Fill us, Almighty God, with joy, hope, and peace. Grant that hostilities may cease, strangers

become friends, and all humanity discover the world as your household. We pray this through Jesus Christ, who lives in unity with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Presider Let us confess our sins against God, self, neighbor, and planet. The people stand or kneel.

People Have mercy upon us, most merciful God; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown,

things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit

that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Presider gives the absolution.

I shall not want;

lessed are you, gracious God, creator of the universe and giver of life. You formed us in your own image

and called us to dwell in your infinite love.

You gave the world into our care that we might be your faithful stewards and show forth your bountiful grace.

But we failed to honor your image in one another and in ourselves; we would not see your goodness in the world around us; and so we violated your creation, abused one another, and rejected your love. Yet you never ceased to care for us, and prepared the way of salvation for all people.

The Presider continues

I

t is truly right, and good and joyful, to give you thanks, all-holy God,

source of life and fountain of mercy.

You have filled us and all creation with your blessing and fed us with your constant love; you have redeemed us in Jesus Christ and knit us into one body. Through your Spirit you replenish us and call us to fullness of life.

Therefore, joining with Angels and Archangels and with the faithful of every generation, we lift our voices with all creation as we sing:

sanctusand benedictus

(11)

Through Abraham and Sarah you called us into covenant with you. You delivered us from slavery, sustained us in the wilderness, and raised up prophets to renew your promise of salvation. Then, in the fullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus. Born into the human family, and dwelling among us, he revealed your glory. Giving himself freely to death on the cross, he triumphed over evil, opening the way of freedom and life.

On the night before he died for us, Our Savior Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

emembering his death and resurrection, we now present to you from your creation this bread and this

wine. By your Holy Spirit may they be for us the Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. Grant that we who share these gifts may be filled with the Holy Spirit and live as Christ’s Body in the world. Bring us into the everlasting heritage of your daughters and sons, that with Paul, and all your saints, past, present, and yet to come, we may praise your Name for ever.

Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

O

ur fatHer, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
