We are so glad you’ve chosen to worship with us this week! Hearing assistance devices are available for the Sanctuary. Please see an usher to

obtain these aids. All services can be found online at Shalimar-umc.org.

Our Vision

Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries through worship, discipleship, and mission.

Our Mission

REACH, TEACH, and SEND

We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members

and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Worship Services

Traditions

At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service.

Connect

At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

Freedom

At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Philip’s Focus

Welcome!!! Welcome Back!!!

We will have “Dinner on the Grounds” on our campus this

Sunday. The meal is not a “bring a covered dish” but is

catered. Please do not bring food from home! You will be

treated to a delicious meal from Chef Heyward McKenzie.

There will be plenty of food! You do not need a reservation.

The Adult Ministries Team wanted to plan an event

WELCOMING EVERYONE and WELCOMING everyone

back with our first church-wide fellowship and food event

in over a year!

In addition to “Dinner on the Grounds,” Sunday is also

Pentecost Sunday! This will be a day we revisit our spiritual

roots! Roots, of course, are most important in these times

when strong winds blow with uncertainty and change. We

will be applying the teachings of the first Pentecost. On

Sunday, May 23, we will celebrate two extraordinary events

in the Church! The coming of the HOLY SPIRIT and the

BIRTHDAY of the CHURCH!

In these days of transitioning out of our Covid Year, there

are so many different winds blowing. There are gales of

division, winds of condemnation, and winds of despair. We

will counter these winds by proclaiming the message of the

first Pentecost and the Holy Spirit. On this day of

Pentecost, a mighty wind brought a message of salvation,

multiplication, and unity! In the Pentecost story, we will

hear the message of what we need most today! We will be

challenged and inspired to come together in a deeper unity

this Sunday!

NUMBERS and NAMES

We all need and have to do it – we let "numbers" enter into our lives. Businesses, schools, churches, and our own families have to operate and survive knowing the "numbers." It is how we pay the bills, know what supply and staff are needed to provide services in our society, how we determine who wins an athletic event, and how we know who is the "best" at something.

We also often ask "how many" as we do here at the church. How many were in our Bible Studies? How many served or were served in one of our many ministries? How many were in church or online at Sunday worship, or how many were at Wednesday Night Supper (how long ago those seem!)? It is one measure of what is happening at a church.

All of us striving to be the "church" know we have to go beyond "numbers." We need to get into relationships with those God has sent us to and them to us. Scripture tells us God knows our name (Isaiah 43:1). So, while we make use of those needed "numbers," may we never stop at just the "number." May we continue to know, in all the ways we are able, those we serve and worship with. Thank you for joining with us at Blessings for Children and all the other ministries and opportunities where we share Christ; together, we worship alongside and serve not just faceless numbers but know those numbers represent Maria, Jessi, Michael, Anna, Brantley, Pablo, Natalie, Aaron, Bristol, and the countless names we all can add. Praise God we are not only a number but known!

If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider:

• Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance.

sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at shalimar-umc.org/blessings-for-children. You can donate items by stopping by the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed! • A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the

church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly.

New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required.
