Basic Overview
What is Microsoft Office 365?
"Office 365" refers to subscription plans that include access to
Many Office 365 plans also include the desktop version of the latest Office applications, which users can install across multiple
computers and devices. The Office 365 plans that are online-only are a great choice for certain business needs, and they are compatible with desktop versions of the latest version of Office, Office 2010, Office 2007 (with slightly limited functionality), Office 2011 for Mac, and Office 2008 for Mac.
Standard Office installs do not include Outlook or Access.
Business versions include Outlook and Pro Plus versions include Access. Mac users have the most restricted availability (compared to
Windows based systems). No OneDrive sync app (currently in development).
• ALL MS O365 Plans are subscription based (Monthly or annually). • ALL MS O365 Plans offer unlimited storage via OneDrive.
• O365 works best with the newest versions of Office (2010 or higher for PC) and 2011 for Mac users. O365 will work with Office 2007 but offers limited functionality. Older versions of Office (or Outlook, Word, etc) will not work with O365.
• An internet connection is required to install and activate all of the O365 subscription plans as well as being able to access the cloud productivity services (email, conferencing,
Management and other services).
• As far as a Terminal Server environment, users can use an Office 365 installation on their personal login on a virtual desktop. This desktop must be assigned to an single user in order for this to work (this should be tested further as this was obtained from a TechNet post by MSFT Support person). Also, this is only available via the Pro Plus installation and subscription level. This would utilize the shared computer activation sequence.
• If someone already owns a domain (yourcompanyname.com) it can be used with O365 so the email is personalized. If not, they can purchase and setup with O365. Either MS or the existing domain hosting company can host the records (godaddy for example).
Basic Overview
• Companies can mix and match different O365 Plan (there are some licensing issues on some combination plans)
• If the subscription is cancelled administrators have 90 days to remove data from the MS servers.
• Companies can upgrade plans via the Admin console
• Payment plans are all done by CC or via monthly or annual invoices
• Companies can cancel at any time but there may be an ETF

When and why?
• For NPs there is no reason to use this alternative vs O365 because of the cost savings to NPs from MS.
• For SMBs, again there is no particular reason to push an Inbox
