1. Introduction

This instruction manual is intended for users of the Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV. Basic knowledge of computers is necessary to be able to install this product. Please consult one of the Trust Customer Care Centers if you have any problems. The last page of this electronic instruction manual, as well as the back on the printed installation manual, contains more information about these Customer Care Centers.

1.1 Conventions used in the manual

The following conventions have been used in the manual to indicate instructions:

<Key> Here you should press a key. The name of the key is given between brackets.

‘System’ This is a specific term used in a program. These are terms used by, for example, Microsoft Windows 98.

[DIR] Type the text shown between brackets [….].

Extra information will be shown as follows:

Note: If you connect the ‘Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV’ to a USB HUB, then this USB HUB should have its own power supply.

The examples assume that the letter "D" has been assigned to your CD-ROM drive. If your system uses a different letter for your CD-ROM drive, for example "E", you should replace "D" by "E".

1.2 Contents of the box

Check the contents of the box before reading the instruction manual. It should contain the following:

1.3 Minimum system requirements

• Windows 98 / Me / 2000 / XP

• 24 MB RAM

• 50 MB free hard disk space

• 4-speed CD-ROM drive

Recommended system configuration for full use of the applications:

• ISDN adapter or modem with Internet subscription

• Sound card with speakers and microphone

2. Safety

2.1 General information

1. Do not use this device in a damp environment.

2. Do not try to repair this device yourself.

3. Under the following circumstances, have the device repaired by qualified personnel:

a) The cable or plug is damaged or worn.

b) Liquid has entered the device.

c) The device has been dropped and/or the casing has been damaged.

4. Position the device so that the cables cannot be damaged.

2.2 Batteries

1. The alkaline batteries supplied are not rechargeable. Do not try to recharge them, because this may cause them to explode.

2. Never throw the batteries onto an open fire. The batteries may explode.

3. Never drill holes into the batteries.

4. Keep the batteries out of the reach of small children.

5. Only use AA alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries with this camera.

When the batteries are empty, ask your local authority where you can dispose of them.

Note: Standard NiCd batteries are unsuitable for use with this camera.

Note: Do not use old and new batteries at the same time, because the old batteries may deplete the new ones.

Note: The batteries should be removed if the camera is not going to be used for some time.

3. Inserting the batteries

1. Open the battery flap by pushing it to the left. See also the arrow on the battery flap.

2. Install the two AA batteries as shown in Figure 1. You can also see how the batteries must be inserted into the camera on the inside of the battery flap.

3. Return the battery flap by pressing it somewhat down and pushing it to the right.

4. The Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV is now ready for use.

4. Camera functions

4.1 Camera functions

With this button the camera is also turned ON.

H Indicator light (in operation) Camera is turned on.

5. Using the camera

5.1 Adapting the centre of the viewfinder

Before you turn the camera on, you turn the pivot of the viewfinder to the left (see Figure 4) to see the viewfinder.

Place the viewfinder vertically or horizontally and focus on the object you wish to photograph.

5.2 Setting the resolution

With the Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV you can take photographs in two resolutions, High (640 x 480) and Low (320 x 240).

When turning the camera on, its default setting will be on the high resolution. In this high resolution you can take 450 shots.

If you want to set the camera in the low-resolution mode (320 x 240), in which you can take 2000 shots, you should do the following:

1. Turn the camera on by pressing the ‘MODE button’ B for 3 seconds, followed by ‘Exposure button’ F 2. Press ‘MODE button’ B once. Symbol G of Figure 3 will change now from H to L, which means the low

resolution.

3. To save this low resolution setting, you press ‘Exposure button’ F

5.3 Taking photographs

On how to take photographs, we refer to Figures 2 and 3 with the associated tables.

1. Turn the camera on by pressing the ‘MODE button’ B for 3 seconds. You will hear a long beep when the camera turns on.

2. Press the ‘Exposure button’ F to go to the photograph mode. You will hear a short beep.

3. Establish the distance to the subject that you wish to photograph.

4. Set the distance to the subject you wish to photograph with the help of Focus Ring E (see also chapter 4.3).

5. Search for the subject that you wish to photograph in viewfinder I.

Note: When the distance to the object is less than 10 cm from the lens, the distance is too small to use the viewfinder.

6. Press the ‘Exposure button’ F to record the subject. You will hear a short beep when the photograph is taken. Also, the light Indicator H will flash for a second.

7. When the memory of the camera is full, you should empty it before you can take new shots. For more information about deleting shots, we refer to chapter 5.3.

When not used, the camera will turn off automatically after a certain time to save the battery capacity.

Note: Keep the glass of the lens clean so that the quality of the photograph is not affected.

To take a good photograph, you should first bring the object of the photograph in focus for some seconds before you take the photograph.

5.3.1 Self-portrait

At the front of the camera you will find a mirror in which you can reflect yourself. To take self-portraits from nearby, we advise you to adapt the focus distance to 20 cm. You can do this by turning the Focus ring (E).

5.3.2 Self-timer

The camera is equipped with a self-timer function that causes a time delay of 10 seconds before the

photograph is taken. You can set it by pressing the MODE button B three times. In the LCD display, symbol C (table 2) will appear. Press the ‘Exposure button’ F to activate the self-timer.

During counting (10 seconds) a beep will be heard, all the time faster as time goes by.

5.3.3 Making a video

With the Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV you can make a video recording (with sound) of 200 seconds (3 minutes and 20 seconds).

To start the video recording, after you have turned on the camera, you press Video button G of Figure 2. The camera will now start recording; you will hear a beep and indicator H will start flashing. In LCD display C, the camera symbol B will appear and the number of recorded seconds will be indicated by the time symbol J. As soon as the Video button is pressed again, the recording will stop.

5.3.4 Audio recording

With the Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV you can make an Audio recording of 30 minutes.

To start the Audio recording, after you have turned on the camera, you press Audio button A of Figure 2. The camera will now start recording; you will hear a beep signal and indicator H will start flashing. In LCD display C, the microphone symbol D will appear and the number of recorded seconds will be indicated by the time symbol J. As soon as the Audio button is pressed again, the recording will stop.

5.4 Deleting recordings

When deleting recordings, you can choose between either deleting all the recordings or deleting only the last recording. Recordings should be deleted when the memory is full, or if you do not want to keep the last recording.

5.4.1 Deleting last recording

Press ‘Mode’ button four times until symbol E appears in the LCD display. Press ‘Exposure button’ F until symbol E starts to flash. By pressing ‘Exposure button’ F again, you will delete the last recording. You will now hear a long beep tone.

5.4.2 Deleting all recordings

Press ‘Mode’ button five times, until symbol F appears in the LCD display. Press the ‘Exposure button’ F until symbol F starts to flash. By pressing the ‘Exposure button’ F again, you will delete the last recording. You will now hear a long beep tone.

6. Installing executive program

Now that you have made the recordings, you can load them onto your computer. For this purpose, the executive program and the software supplied should be installed. Follow therefore the instructions in the following chapters.

Note: First delete all the executive programs from old cameras that may have been installed on your system before. These can cause conflicts with your Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV. Consult for this the manual of the cameras that must be deleted.

Note: The executive program of the camera must first be installed before you connect the camera to the computer.

Note: This camera works with this executive program only on a system from Windows 98. This camera does not work on an Apple iMac.

6.1 Trust Software Installer

1. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD drive. The installation program will start automatically. If the installation program does not start automatically, run 'Setup.exe' on the CD-ROM. Figure 6 will appear. This installer will appear both in Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000 and in Windows XP.

6.2 Installing executive program (Windows 98 / Windows Me)

1. Click on FAMILYC@M 310 AV to start the installation. Figure 7 will appear.

2. Click on ‘Next’ to start the installation. After the installation, Figure 8 will appear.

3. Click on “Finish” to complete the installation. Automatically, the Trust Software installer (Figure 6) will appear, with the help of which you can install the other software. See for the installation of this software chapter 7.

6.3 Installing executive program Windows 2000

1. Click on FAMILYC@M 310 AV to start the installation. Figure 9 will appear.

During the installation of an executive program in Windows 2000 the system may come with a message about a 'non-authenticated' executive program (See Figure 10).

You may ignore this message, because the functionality of the executive program is not endangered. It means only that the executive program in question does (not) yet have a full authentication from Microsoft at the time this manual was written. Click therefore on “Yes” to continue with the installation. After the

installation, Figure 11 will appear.

3. Click on “Finish” to complete the installation. Automatically, the Trust Software installer (Figure 6) will appear, which you can use to install the other software. See for the installation of this software chapter 7.

6.4 Installing executive program Windows XP

1. Click on FAMILYC@M 310 AV to start the installation. Figure 12 will appear.

During the installation of an executive program in Windows XP the system may come with a message about a 'non-authenticated' executive program (See Figure 13).

7. Software installation

7.1 Installing Photograph Express 4.0

Photo Express 4.0 is an image-editing program that can be used to load and edit the photographs on your PC that you have taken using your FAMILYC@M 310 AV. On the PC follow the below mentioned instructions for the installation of Photograph Express 4.0.

1. Go to the installation screen and click on ‘Photo Express 4.0’. See Figure 4. Figure 15 will appear.

2. Select the preferred language and click on ‘OK’. Figure 16 will appear.

Explorer 6.0.

7.2 Installing Photo Explorer 6.0

Ulead Photo Explorer 6.0 is an image editing program that can be used to load and edit the photographs on your PC that you have taken using your FAMILYC@M 310 AV. Follow the instructions below to install Photo Express 6.0.

1. Go to the installation screen and click on ‘Photo Explorer 6.0. See Figure 6. Figure 24 will appear.

3. Click on ‘YES” to accept the license and to continue. Figure 26 will appear.

7. Turn the option for the ‘I would like to launch Ulead Photo Explorer’ application off and click on “Finish” to complete the installation.

You have completed the installation of Photo Explorer 6.0 SE. Continue with chapter 7.3 for the installation of Cool 360.

7.3 Installing Cool 360

COOL 360 is an image editing program that can be used to change various photographs you have taken using the Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV into panoramic photographs. Follow the instructions below to install COOL 360.

1. Go to the installation screen (Figure 4) and click on ‘Install COOL 360’. Figure 30 will appear.

3. Click on ‘YES’ to accept the license and to continue. Figure 32 will appear.

7.4 Installing Microsoft ® NetMeeting (Windows 98 / Me / 2000)

NetMeeting is a program that is supplied as a standard accessory with Windows 98 / Me / 2000 and in which you can use the Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV as a WebCam.

In Windows XP, NetMeeting does not exist. Instead, the program Windows Messenger is supplied. For the installation of this program, we refer to your Windows XP manual.

To install NetMeeting, do the following:

1. Click on the ‘Start’ button at the bottom left on your desktop and, via Programs -> Accessories -> Internet Tools, go to NetMeeting (See Figure 37).

2. Click your left mouse button to start the installation. Figure 38 will appear.

5. If you do not want to be displayed in the NetMeeting list, you select ‘Do not list my name in the directory’.

Click on “Next” to continue. Figure 41 will appear.

6. Select the connection you use and click on “Next”. Figure 42 will appear.

7. Select the ‘Digital Video Capture’ as the camera that you want to use for NetMeeting and click on “Next”

to continue. Figure 43 will appear.

8. Select “Put a shortcut to NetMeeting on my desktop” if you want to have a shortcut of NetMeeting on your desktop. Select “Put a shortcut to NetMeeting on My Quick Launch bar” if you want to have a shortcut in your Windows toolbar. You can also turn off the options if you do not wish to use one or both options.

9. Click on ‘Next’ to continue. Figure 44 will appear.

10. Click on “Next” to set and test the audio settings of NetMeeting. Figure 45 will appear.

Note: Make sure that the microphone is connected to the microphone of your sound card.

13. Speak in the microphone to test this. The indicator must deflect now. If it deflects in the yellow or red, you should adapt the sensitivity with the “Record Volume” slide switch until it only deflects in the green. Click on “Next” to continue. Figure 47 will appear.

14. Click on ‘Finish’ to complete the installation of NetMeeting. NetMeeting will now start automatically.

Consult chapter 10.3 for the use of NetMeeting.

7.5 Installing Windows Messenger (Windows XP)

As already described for Microsoft ® NetMeeting, the NetMeeting program is supplied with Windows XP.

Instead, Windows Messenger is supplied with Windows XP.

Windows Messenger is already installed in the Windows XP operating system. You can select Windows Messenger in the Start menu to start the program. Follow the instructions that are given for your personal settings.

8. Connecting the camera to the computer

Note: Before you connect the camera, the executive program must have been installed in your system.

See chapter 6.

The Trust FamilyC@m 310 AV must be connected to a free USB port of your computer. See Figure 48.

2. Turn the camera off.

3. Turn the pivot of the viewfinder to the left (See Figure 48) and USB connection A will be displayed.

4. Connect the USB cable to connection A of the camera.

5. Connect the other end of the USB cable (B) to a free USB port of the computer. You will hear a beep.

The camera will now turn on automatically and will be detected by Windows. The associated executive program will be found automatically and the camera will be ready for use as a WebCam or to load recordings.

As long as the camera is on and is connected to the USB port of your computer, the red LED will flash now and then. This means that your camera and the computer are communicating.

9. Using software

9.1 Camera Manager

9.1.1 Photograph Mode

1. To open the Camera Manager you click on the camera manager icon on your desktop. Figure 49 will appear.

2. Click on C to download photographs from the memory of the camera. Figure 50 will appear.

3. Click on “Upload” to load the photographs or recordings from the camera onto the camera manager.

4. As soon as the photographs or recordings are displayed in the camera, you can see or (in the case of Video and Audio recordings) play them by double clicking.

Enhanced Mode

If you want to download in the highest resolution (1.3 Mpix), you must activate the ‘Enhanced’ mode before loading the pictures.

9.2 Using Photo Express 4.0

A short description of how to use Photo Express 4.0 is given below. For more information, please see this program’s instruction manual which is included on the CD-ROM provided.

9.3 Loading photographs

1. Connect the USB port (E) (see figure 1) on the camera to your computer using the USB cable.

2. Start Photo Express 4.0. Figure 51 will appear.

3. In the main Photo Express menu, select ‘Get Photo’ (A) and then select ‘Digital Camera’ (B). Figure 52 will appear once.

4. In the window, ‘TRUST FAMILYC@M 310 AV’ appears. Select ‘Digital camera’ and click on ‘OK’.

5. Figure 53 will appear after the camera has been selected.

6. ‘TRUST FAMILYC@M 310 AV’ will be displayed for ‘Select data source’ (C). You may have more cameras installed on your computer. If this is the case, a different model may be visible. If so, select the

‘TRUST FAMILYC@M 310 AV’.

7. Click on ‘Acquire’ (E). The TWAIN window (figure 54) will appear.

8. Select the photograph (A or B) that you wish to transfer to Photo Express by clicking on it with the mouse.

9. Click on ‘Transfer’ (F) to transfer the photograph to Photo Express 4.0. Figure 55 will appear.

9.3.1 Loading video clips

Please refer to figure 54 for loading video clips.

1. Click on the video clip (C).

2. Click on ‘SAVE AVI’ (H) to save the video clip. (Figure 56 will appear)

2. Click on ‘Format’ (J) to alter the camera’s image settings. Figure 57 will appear.

3. Set the colours and image size as desired and click on ‘Apply’ followed by ‘OK’. Figure 57 will close now.

4. Click on ‘Snap Shot’ (I) to take a photograph of the live video image.

5. The photograph will be automatically loaded into Photo Express as a thumbnail.

6. Double-click on the photograph. The photograph will now appear in the window.

This photograph can now be edited and/or saved on the computer.

9.4 Using PhotoExplorer 6.0

A short description of how to use Photo Explorer 6.0 is given below. For more information, please see this program’s instruction, which is included on the CD-ROM provided.

1. Connect the camera to your computer as described in chapter 8.

2. Start Photo Explorer 6.0. Figure 58 will appear.

3. Go to “File  TWAIN Acquire  Select Source”. Figure 59 will appear.

4. Select the ‘TRUST FAMILYC@M 310 AV’ and click on ‘Select’.

5. The correct camera has now been installed and photographs can be loaded from the camera’s memory.

6. Go to File  TWAIN Acquire  Select Source. A figure will appear as Figure 54.

7. Select the photograph (A or B) that must be transferred to Photo Explorer by clicking it.

8. Press ‘Transfer’ (F) to transfer the photograph to Photo Explorer. The selected photograph will appear now on the desktop of Photograph Explorer and can be edited and / or saved.

A video e-mail can be easily made and sent using the VideoMail Wizard.

1. Click on the ‘Recording wizard’ button (button 4, figure 61). The ‘Select Mail Type’ window will appear.

2. Select ‘Message Containing Video and Audio’ and click on ‘Next’ to continue. The ‘Video Quality Control’

window will appear.

3. Configure the video quality and click on ‘Next’ to continue.

4. The ‘Recording wizard – Audio Quality’ window will appear. Adjust the audio quality and click on ‘Next’ to continue.

5. The ‘Start to Record Video Mail’ window will appear.

6. Click on the ‘Record’ button to start recording. Click on the ‘Stop’ button to finish the recording. Click on

‘Next’ to continue. The ‘Complete VideoLive Mail’ window will appear.

7. In this window, select the following:

‘Play’ to play the video,

‘Save’ to save the video,

‘Mail’ to sent the video as an .exe file.

8. Click on ‘Finish’ to close the Wizard.

9.7 Using Microsoft ® NetMeeting

1. Before you start NetMeeting, make sure you have installed an Internet account.

2. Start NetMeeting (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Internet Tools -> NetMeeting). See Figure 64.

3. Two screens will be opened NetMeeting and your telephone connection. See Figure 65.

4. Fill in your user name and login and click on “Connect” to connect to Internet.

5. As soon as the connection with Internet has come about, only the NetMeeting screen will remain

8. To prevent a mirrored image of your camera, you turn off the ‘Show mirror image in preview video window’ option. You can also change the image settings in this window, such as size and quality. Click on

‘OK’ to save the new settings and to return to the initial NetMeeting window. The one-time settings are ready now.

9. Click on ‘View’ (Figure 66) and select the ‘My Video (New Window)’ option. An extra small window, ‘My Video’, will be opened. See Figure 69.

10. Click on the play button ( ) to turn on your present video image. The person with whom you will have a NetMeeting will also see this image.

11. You are ready now to make a NetMeeting connection. Click on the telephone book of Figure 66. Figure 70 will appear.

13. Double-click on a person from the list and a NetMeeting connection will be created.

It may happen that someone does not want to be connected to you, because this person may be communicating with another person. Then select someone else from the list.

10. Troubleshooting

The computer's USB

port does not work. Try another USB port or install on another computer.

Camera is not

Connect the camera to a USB port.

Windows does not detect a new device after connecting the camera.

to a non-fed USB-HUB. Connect the camera to a fed USB- HUB or to a USB port of the computer.

The computer becomes jammed when using the USB connection.

The USB port has shared an IRQ with another device.

Remove cards from the computer or divide the IRQ's differently.
