2012 SLDS Grant
NDE received a federal SLDS grant in 2012 to enhance our SLDS through: the development and implementation of a data analysis tool for districts that uses multiple local and state data sources to produce reports for local
decision-makers, providing a statewide system of
professional development training for data analysis to reach every district, building a research and evaluation
operation in NDE, and expanding and enhancing the SLDS

Virtual Support Team (VST)
• Ed-Fi requires having to use some new features in your Student Information Systems (SIS)
• Some data verification that was part of the NSSRS Data Manager is now integrated in your SIS

ADVISER Dashboard Status
• The dashboard is just one of the sites you will access from the
Nebraska Cloud portal - https://portal.nebraskacloud.org
• Some ESUs are still finalizing the work to connect their district networks to the Single Sign-On (SSO) system
• Access to the dashboard is controlled by districts, by setting up staff data in their SIS
ADVISER Dashboard Updates
• ADVISER Dashboard Communications team
• Newly formed, currently made of some ESU, ESUCC, and NDE staff
• Will help direct development of new features
• In the future will help develop dashboard training materials for district use
• Dashboard is most useful for Teachers and Administrators
• ADVISER Validation will always be the best source for verifying your data
Upcoming Expectations and Timeline
Year-End 2017-2018
• NSSRS is still used for state reporting, districts must upload files to NSSRS Data Manager like usual
• Both NSSRS & ADVISER Validation websites are open
• More ADVISER reports and error codes are coming
• NSSRS/ADVISER data checking
• ADVISER “As of Today” vs. your SIS & NSSRS year-end templates
• Help desk tickets for NSSRS: [email protected]
Year-End 2017-2018
• ADVISER workdays happening through April
• NSSRS year-end workdays in May and June • ADVISER district monthly meetings continue
• See NDE bulletin for dates and link
• SRS will prepare for testing with all districts
• NDE will release the 2018-2019 data calendar
Summer 2018 - July
• Districts may shut off their 2017-2018 Ed-Fi publishing in their SIS once all of their year-end data is finalized
• SIS vendors will work on changes required for 2018-2019 ADVISER data
• NDE’s NSSRS and ADVISER help desks will be combined July 1st
Summer 2018 - August
• NDE will open the 2018-2019 ADVISER database during the first week of August
• The ADVISER Dashboard will now primarily point to 2018-2019 data, therefore it will be empty
• No users will have access to the dashboard until districts begin syncing their 2018-2019 data
• Before districts can reconnect to the ADVISER database and begin uploading data, they must get updated SIS software from their vendor
Fall 2018-2019 - September
• Districts go through the usual school year setup in their SIS
• After making sure the 2018-2019 SIS update has been
installed, districts can go through the yearly ADVISER setup process
1. Refer to your SIS Vendor’s instructions
2. Reestablish your connection to ADVISER (using your existing key)
3. Set up the new year’s ADVISER code mappings/data dictionary (for certain vendors)
4. Do your initial ADVISER upload (including terms, calendars, courses, sections, students, enrollment, staff assignments)
Fall 2018-2019 - October
• Fall ESU workdays will focus on ADVISER
• New student IDs are still created in UNIQ-ID
• Staff data still uses the existing NDE Staff ID and Staff Reporting apps
• Staff Assignment data must be uploaded from your SIS to ADVISER in order to get access to the dashboard again
Fall 2018-2019 - October
• All 2018-2019 school year student data is uploaded to ADVISER from your SIS (and SRS)
• Districts may use the ADVISER Validation website to begin checking their data as soon as they are reconnected to ADVISER
• Focus on your typical Fall data - membership, EL, FRL, SPED counts, anything that affects State Aid
• Audit Window for Fall data starts 10/16
Fall 2018-2019 - October
• 2017-2018 follow up collections will still be done through NSSRS Data Manager
• Data Manager will be shut down after 10/31
• For official state purposes: all 2017-2018 data comes from NSSRS, all 2018-2019 data comes from ADVISER
Fall 2018-2019 - November
• At midnight on 10/31 when the Audit Window closes, NDE runs a process to save a copy of your 2018-2019 Fall
reporting data and locks it down
• On 11/1, the ADVISER Validation reports/lookups will give districts the option to see this locked data, or see the data currently in the database “As of Today”
• The ADVISER database is always open for edits from the district, but those changes won’t be reflected in the locked data
Winter 2018-2019
• The Dashboard has been loaded with 2018-2019 data, Dashboard training is in development
• NDE recommends district data stewards/SIS
admins continuously review their ADVISER data and address publishing errors as they appear
Spring 2018-2019
• The Year-End ADVISER collection works similarly to Fall
• Districts can begin validating data as soon as it is in their SIS • Audit Window officially starts 6/16
• Year-End data is locked down on 6/30
• 2017-2018 Post-School Survey data will not be collected through ADVISER
2019-2020 & Beyond
• The process works nearly the same as 2018-2019
• Each year districts will need to get the latest update from their SIS vendor, reconnect, then do their initial ADVISER sync
• For 2018-2019 follow up collections and post-school surveys, districts just need to update the data in the 2018-2019 school year in their SIS
• Prior year ADVISER databases will always remain open
• NDE will look at the latest data in them when their follow up windows close
