Abstract. Suppose thatϕis an analytic self-map of the unit diskDandm is a nonnegative integer. A integral characterization of the boundedness and compactness of the operatorCϕDm on Bloch type spaces are given, where

(CϕDmf)(z) =f(m)(ϕ(z)). Moreover, an estimate of the essential norm for this operator on Bloch type spaces is also given.

1. Introduction

Let D be the unit disk of complex plane C, and H(D) the class of functions

analytic in D. For a∈ D, let σa denote the conformal automorphism defined by σa=1aazz. Letg(z, a) be Green’s function forDwith logarithmic singularity ata,

i.e.,g(z, a) = log|σ1

a(z)|.

For α ∈ (0,∞), recall that anf ∈ H(D) is said to belong to the Bloch type

space, denoted byBα, if

kfkα= sup z∈D

(1− |z|2)α|f0(z)|<.

With the norm kfkBα =|f(0)|+kfkα, Bα is a Banach space. LetB0α denote the

space which consists of all f ∈ Bα satisfying lim

|z|→1(1− |z|2)α|f0(z)| = 0. This space is called the little Bloch type space. From [26], we see that f ∈ Bα if and only if

Let ϕ be an analytic self-map of D. The composition operator Cϕ is defined by Cϕ(f) = f ◦ ϕ, f ∈ H(D). Let D denote the differentiation operator, i.e., Df =f0, f ∈H(D).For a nonnegative integerm, them-th differentiation operator

is define by

(Dmf)(z) =f(m)(z), f ∈H(D).

The product of the operator Dm and the composition operators Cϕ, denoted by CϕDm, is defined as follows.

(CϕDmf)(z) =f(m)(ϕ(z)), f ∈H(D).

By Schwarz-Pick Lemma, we see that each composition operator is bounded on the Bloch space. See [9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 21, 27] for the study of the com-pactness and essential norm of composition operator on the Bloch space. Product composition operator ans some other operators attracted considerable interest re-cently. The product of differentiation and composition operators has been studied, for example, in [3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 15, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24, 25, 28, 30] and the related references therein.

In [20], Wu and Wulan characterized the boundedness and the compactness of the operator CϕDmacting on the Bloch space. They proved that CϕDm:B → B is compact if and only if limn→∞kCϕDm(zn)kB= 0, as well as

lim

|a|→1 CϕD

m a−z 1−az

B= 0.

Liang and Zhou in [8] proved that CϕDm : Bα → Bβ is compact if and only if CϕDm:Bα→ Bβ is bounded and limn→∞nα−1kCϕDm(zn)kBβ = 0. In [28], Zhou

and Zhu showed thatCϕDm:Bα→ Bβis compact if and only ifCϕDm:Bα→ Bβ

is bounded and lim|a|→1−

CϕD

m 1−|a|2 (1−az)α

Bβ = 0.

In this paper, we study the boundedness, compactness and essential norm of the operatorCϕDm between Bloch type spaces by using the integral characterizations which stated in (1) and (2).

Throughout this paper, constants are denoted byC, they are positive and may differ from one occurrence to the other. The notationABmeans that there is a positive constantCsuch thatB/C ≤A≤CB.

2. Main results and proofs

In this section, we will state and prove the main results in this paper. For this purpose we give some auxiliary results which we use in this paper. The following lemma can be proved as Proposition 3.11 in [1].

Lemma 2.1. Let 0 < α, β < ∞, ϕ be an analytic self map of D and m be a nonnegative integer. Then CϕDm : Bα → Bβ is compact if and only if for every

bounded sequence {fn} inB converging to0 uniformly on compact subsets of Das n→ ∞,limn→∞kCϕDmfnkBβ = 0.

(3)

Lemma 2.2. Let 0 < α, β < ∞, ϕ be an analytic self map of D and m be a nonnegative integer. IfCϕDm:Bα(Bα

0)→ Bβ is compact, then for any >0there

exists aδ∈(0,1), such that for allf inBBα(orBBα

0), the unit ball ofB

α (orBα 0),

andδ < r <1, holds

sup a∈D

Z

|ϕ(z)|>r

|f(m+1)(ϕ(z))|2|ϕ0(z)|2(1− |z|2)2β−2g2(z, a)dA(z)< .

By modifying the proof of Theorem 4.2 of [12], we can prove the following result. We omit the details.

Lemma 2.3. Let 0 < α, β < ∞, ϕ be an analytic self map of D and m be a nonnegative integer. Then CϕDm : Bα → Bβ

0 is compact if and only if CϕD m :

→ Bβ

0 is bounded and

lim

|a|→1 sup

kfkBα<1 Z

D

|(CϕDmf)0(z)|2(1− |z|2)2β−2g2(z, a)dA(z) = 0.

The following lemma can be found, for example, in [29].

Lemma 2.4. For f ∈H(D), 0 < α <∞ and m be a nonnegative integer. Then f ∈ Bα if and only if

sup z∈D

(1− |z|2)α+m|f(m+1)(z)|<∞.

f ∈ Bα

0 if and only if

lim

|z|→1

(1− |z|2)α+m|f(m+1)(z)|= 0.

Theorem 2.5. Let 0 < α, β < ∞, ϕ be an analytic self map of D and m be a nonnegative integer. Then the following statements are equivalent:

(ii) CϕDm:Bα 0 → B

HenceCϕDm:Bα→ Bβ is bounded. (i)⇒(ii). This implication is obvious.

(ii)⇒(iii). Let f ∈ Bα. Set fr(z) =f(rz) for 0 < r <1. It is easy to check thatfr∈ Bα

Theorem 2.6. Let 0 < α, β < ∞, ϕ be an analytic self map of D and m be a nonnegative integer. Then CϕDm:Bα

D

Proof. Assume thatCϕDm:Bα 0 → B

β

0 is bounded. It is clear that CϕDm:B0α→

is bounded. By Theorem 2.5, (2.5) holds. Let f(z) =zm+1. Using the bound-edness ofCϕDm:Bα

0 → B β

Conversely, assume thatϕ∈ B0β and (2.5) holds. By Theorem 2.5, we see that CϕDm : Bα0 → Bβ is bounded. To prove that CϕDm : Bα0 → B

From the above inequality and by the assumption, we get the desired result.

Theorem 2.7. Let 0 < α, β < ∞, ϕ be an analytic self map of D and m be a nonnegative integer. Then the following statements are equivalent:

Proof. (ii)⇒(i). It is obvious.

(i) ⇒ (iii). Assume that CϕDm : Bα → B β

0 is bounded. From the proof of Theorem 2.5, we can choose functionsg, h∈ Bα such that

Then we getCϕDmg

D

|(CϕDmf)0(z)|2(1− |z|2)2β−2g2(z, a)dA(z) = 0. (2.8)

From Lemma 2.4, we see thatCϕDm:Bα→ B β
