Unrealistic idealism is as sure a path to failure as unbridled pessimism. When we expect too much, or ex-pect nothing at all, we end up in the same place— disappointed. Life is full of twists and turns, ups and downs, successes and failures. It takes a positive attitude, realistic expectations and a lot of love to live life well.

Jesus offers a new teaching on marriage, confronting the accepted traditions. A man could divorce his wife for whatever reason and she had no say. In this male dominated society, a woman had no rights at all. Jesus speaks against divorce not only because the two are one, but also because God is the author of their union. It is a vocation for both the man and the woman and they have equal rights within their marriage.

Marriage is often seen in secular terms and the idea that God is somehow part of the process gets lost in the midst of florists, gowns and menu options. It can be difficult to hear God’s call, to look for the spiritual bonds that create the union between a man and a woman. God does not call us to failure and we need to nurture and protect the bond of love that joins us together. With a positive attitude, realistic expectations, and more than a few prayers, may all marriages celebrate

many happy

years together!

As St. Rose of Lima prepares for the Increased Offertory Campaign, we are challenged to evaluate our

lives and give back a just portion of our blessings to God. In spite of the difficult economic times we are

fortunate people. Our thanks for these and many other blessings should be reflected in what we give to

our Church. Remember, giving opportunities come is many forms, not just financial. Give of yourself as a

volunteer and donate your time to worthwhile causes. “What you give will be returned tenfold.”
