Backed by over 35 years of

experience in vehicle air

conditioning, Dometic

WAECO is recognised in

the industry as an expert in its fi eld.

Our track record

spans many innovations, including the design of fully

integrated cooling systems for refrigerated vehicles. We

have distributed these systems, put a country-wide,

certifi ed service network in place, and are now set to

produce them under the

WAECO Frigo

brand.

The WAECO Frigo cooling concept was created in

cooperation with TWK Karlsruhe, a testing and

qualifi cation centre and Germany’s leading institute for

optimised vehicle cooling systems. It covers all industry

demands placed on retrofi

t cooling systems. We

exclusively use fi rst-class quality components – optimised

for the best performance by manufacturers who are also

well known in the OEM business, such as SPAL (for fans)

and Valeo (for compressors). WAECO Frigo was designed

as a modular system. Universal basic components give

specialist installers all the fl exibility they need.

Precision cooling from the specialist

Cooling with nothing on the roof –

customised to suit the freight and

the vehicle

ENGINEERED IN GERMANY

The transport of temperature-sensitive freight is a demanding logistic task subject to strict legal regulations. It calls for a vehicle that is

equipped to take perishable foodstuff s, medicines or blood donations from one place to another with one-degree accuracy. The modular

WAECO Frigo system provides highly reliable cooling solutions for all commonly used refrigerated vehicles. The entire refrigeration system

is integrated in the vehicle where it takes up little space – and without the roof-mounted structure you typically have with other manufacturers’

systems.

It takes just a few easy steps to create a customised precision cooling system. You start by specifying the type of vehicle, the size

of the load compartment and the required temperature conditions. We then put together the modules to suit your specifi cations. If

required, we add optional features such as a stationary cooling system to be operated from the control panel.

Certifi ed cooling solution for

mobile operation

Forwarders of food products and other temperature-sensitive

freight are familiar with the strict legal requirements. They are

responsible for maintaining a continuous cold chain right through

to the consumer. No problem, the integrated cooling systems

from air conditioning specialist WAECO are a hundred percent

reliable. The systems are ATP-approved and certifi ed according to

DIN 8958 (Testing of cooling equipment for insulated means of

transportation). This gives your customers the peace of mind of

knowing they are transporting their freight correctly and

impec-cably.

WAECO Frigo cooling systems give you the unique benefi t of fully

integrated installation. The evaporator unit is mounted to the

ceiling of the cargo compartment. So it’s never in the way, neither

during loading and unloading, nor during clean-up. And, unlike

with other systems, there are no roof-mounted parts. That means:

No problems going where there are headroom restrictions

(e.g. in underground car parks)

More safety if the vehicle has to swerve (its centre of gravity

remains unchanged)

No need for a roof cut-out: the vehicle body rigidity is fully

retained; no enhanced risk of corrosion

No aff ect on the vehicle’s appearance and aerodynamics

Long downtimes because the evaporator is iced up and has to be

defrosted? – Not any more, if your refrigerated vehicle is equipped

with the optional hot gas defrosting system.

Here’s how it works: The refrigerant circulating between the

compressor and the evaporator is heated up and quickly defrosts

the evaporator. This means the vehicle is soon ready for service

again and the evaporator can operate at full capacity.

This optional feature can be used to optimises the logistic chain.

The vehicle can be loaded (or remain loaded) on the eve of

deli-very and is ready to set off in the morning. There’s no need for any

stationary intermediate storage.

The second compressor required for stationary cooling is installed

in the driver’s cabin under the seats. Mains hook-up is via a

230-volt socket integrated in the front bumper. As the

compo-nents of the refrigeration system are operated by the vehicle‘s

own electrical system during stationary operation, we have added

a high-quality IU0U charger to maintain a proper battery charge.

Evaporator module Neatly integrated: control element with vehicle-specifi c console (optional). The current cargo department temperature is always in view for the driver.

WAECO Frigo systems consist of several components,

some of which are optional. The core component of each

system is the evaporator, which is selected to suit the

application and the cooling capacity and determines the

choice of the other basic components (condenser,

compressor).

The modular design of the system facilitates installation

and customising. It takes only between 8 and 12 hours‘

work to fi t the basic components. Then the system can be

adjusted to the specifi c requirements of the vehicle.

Here are the most signifi cant benefi ts:

As the evaporator is installed inside the vehicle, neither

its appearance nor its aerodynamics are aff ected.

No problems with headroom restrictions.

More safety if the vehicle has to swerve, because the

vehicle‘s centre of gravity has not been raised by an

additional weight on the roof top.

No loss of the vehicle rigidity and no need for

additi-onal corrosion proofi ng, because neither the roof

trusses nor roof panels have to be cut through.

Performance, effi ciency, durability, ease of installation

and ease of maintenance: these are the requirements

to be met by the designers of fully integrated cooling

systems.

WAECO Frigo systems owe their excellent cooling

performance to a

multi-point injection system

and the

use of evaporators with optimised capacity. The

multi-point injection system ensures that the refrigerant is evenly

distributed in the evaporator. This, in turn, results in a

homogenous evaporation process and improves the

cooling performance.

Another benefi cial detail is the

fi lter drier with the

integrated sight glass

, which makes it easy to monitor the

fi ll level and condition of the refrigerant. A single glance on

the sight glass is enough to know when the drier needs to

be replaced. Damage to the system or downtimes can be

eff ectively avoided.

Quality is also the hallmark of the stationary cooling

system. WAECO is the only manufacturer to off er a

splash-proof 230-volt connection

to be fi tted on the bumper, a

patented solution from DEFA.

ATP

ATP is an international agreement that covers the rules and standards for the transportation of perishable

foodstuff s. In essence, ATP defi nes the technical requirements to the special equipment used for

cross-border carriage of foodstuff s. Strictly defi ned type approvals or individual testing are used to fi nd out

whether a specifi c cooling system is suitable for food transport according to ATP. The fi ndings are

documented in a test protocol.

DIN 8958

DIN 8958 defi nes the technical requirements to cooling equipment used in insulated means of transportation. It also describes

the test methods to be applied to measure the system’s performance. The standard considers the various types of cooling

equipment.

HACCP

„HACCP stands for “Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points”, a quality management concept for the production of foodstuff s.

During production, the quality of foodstuff s can be impaired by biological, physical or chemical hazards. The HACCP system

helps identify the critical points in the manufacturing process and have them under control. As a result,

health risks for consumers can be systematically avoided. HACCP is integrated in European Council

Directive 93/43/EEC as a preventive system for food hygiene.
