TATTOOING IN HONG KONG

Hong Kong’s first international tattoo convention has opened. It will hopefully make tattooing in

Hong Kong more popular (1A).

Tattoos are still seen as an inappropriatething in Hong Kong. If you have a tattoo, you might not

get a job because of it (2C). However, the situation is changing. There were only four tattoo

shops in Hong Kong 13 years ago. Today, there's around 100 of them (3C). Somebody new

wants to be a tattoo artist every month and every week.

The convention was three days long and it featured competitions, live music and DJs (4B).

DRIVING IN THE US

In the United States, young men and women are allowed to start driving lessons when they

are fifteen (1). They apply for an 'Initial Permit', take lessons, and have the opportunity to drive the

family car. They have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is over 21(2) and who has a proper driver's license.

After a year of good driving (3), on their sixteenth birthday, they can get their driver's license.

None of this meant anything to me until my oldest son, Hudson, asked me if he could apply for his initial permit (4). "What!" I said to myself. "This is crazy! He's only fifteen! His brain isn't fully developed yet!". When I had calmed down, I realised that everybody starts young over here. And, the best way to keep my son safe (5), is to allow him to get proper training, and lots of experience. So, even though I would like to say "No", I haven't. I am actually the one who sits next to him when he is driving around. Thankfully, he is very careful. It's nerve wracking, however, as a parent, to sit there in the passenger seat, and have no control at all. I'm definitely more nervous than he is in that situation. I have to control my breathing (6), bite my tongue, and try not to slam my foot onto my imaginary brake.

As he is encouraged by his driving instructors to drive everywhere (7), in the morning, he

drives his three siblings to school, and then goes on to the High School. So, first thing in the

morning, I find myself sitting in the passenger seat in my pyjamas (8), heart racing, wild eyed

like a trapped cat, just hoping for it all to be over soon. I smile, of course, and say things like, "That was a really good corner, Hudson. You used the brakes really well." By the time I get home, though, I look like I've seen a ghost. So I distress with some yoga (9), and a long shower (10).

LOUIS VUITTON SUITCASE

Moscow removes large Louis Vuitton suitcase. Russia's government will remove a large building in

the centre of Moscow. The building looks exactly like a brown Louis Vuitton suitcase. It is nine metres high and 30 metres long and is covered in Louis Vuitton's famous logo (5A). It also has two giant Russian flags running down one side. The luxury goods maker built it for a 6-week exhibition of Louis Vuitton luggage. The exhibition was going to open on December the 2nd to

mark the 150-year anniversary of the company (6B). A spokesperson from Louis Vuitton said

everyone at the company was disappointed. The company had planning permission to make the building and Moscow building inspectors visited it many times before the builders

finished it (7C).

The giant suitcase became very unpopular with ordinary Muscovites (8C). Many people

could not understand why the city agreed to build it in Moscow's famous Red Square. A member of Russia's Communist Party said Red Square was "a sacred place for the Russian

state" (9C). The suitcase was built next to the tomb of Lenin. A Moscow pensioner said: "This is

an embarrassment for our country. All we think about is business, business, business." He said it was shocking because most Russians could never afford to buy a Louis Vuitton product. The building may be moved to another part of Moscow. The money collected from the exhibition will
