B. Choosing Your Primary Care Doctor

As a Member, you need to choose a Primary Care Doctor, usually referred to as a PCP. You should select your Doctor within 30 days of enrollment.

If you do not choose a Doctor, IEHP will choose one for you within 40 days of enrollment. Each enrolled family member can select a different Primary

Care Doctor.

Here is a list of the types of Primary Care Doctors you can choose:

• Family and General Practice Doctors can usually see the whole family.

• Internal Medicine Doctors usually see only adults and children 14 years or older.

• Pediatricians see newborns to individuals age 18 or 21.

• Obstetricians and Gynecologists (OB/GYNs) see only women and specialize in women’s health and maternity care. Only those OB/GYNs listed in

the “Primary Care Doctors and Hospitals” section can be chosen as your Primary Care Doctor.

• Nurse Practitioners (NP) can usually see the whole family.

If you have any questions about age restrictions, Doctor availability, your Doctor’s medical school education, residency or board certification status,

call IEHP Member Services.

B. Getting the Hospital You Want

Your choice of Primary Care Doctor will determine which hospital you will go to if you need inpatient or outpatient care. If you want to be able to use

a specific hospital, select a Doctor who is associated with that hospital. You can find the Doctor’s hospital association on the same line as the Doctor

you select. Doctors who are associated with more than one hospital are listed twice with different numbers.

C. Getting the Specialist You Want

Specialists are Doctors who practice in a medical specialty. All IEHP specialists are linked to Primary Care Doctors. OB/GYNs are the only specialists

listed in the Doctor Directory because they are the only type of specialist that you can see without a referral. If there is a specific specialist you would

like to see, talk to you Doctor.

Your Primary Care Doctor can provide services such as physical exams and preventive health services. For other services you may need to see a specialist.

Your Doctor will tell you if you need to see a specialist. Your Doctor will submit a “referral” (i.e., a request) to the IPA/Medical Group or IEHP. You

must have a “referral” to get specialty services.

con el que está asociado su Doctor se muestra en la misma línea del nombre de su Doctor. Los Doctores que están asociados con más de un hospital

aparecen dos veces con diferentes números.

C. Recibir Servicios del Especialista de su Preferencia

Los especialistas son Doctores que ejercen una especialidad médica. Todos los especialistas de IEHP están vinculados a los Doctores de Cuidado

Pri-mario. Los Gineco-Obstetras son los únicos especialistas que aparecen en el Directorio de Doctores debido a que son los únicos especialistas que

The meaning of each accessibility code ( ) is described in the chart below:

P - Parking

Parking spaces, including van accessible space(s), are accessible. Pathways have curbed ramps between the parking lot, office,

and at drop off locations.

EB - Exterior Building

Curbed ramps and other ramps to the building are wide enough for a wheelchair or scooter. Handrails are provided on both

sides of the ramp. There is an “accessible” entrance to the building. Doors are wide enough to let a wheelchair or scooter user

enter, and have handles that are easy to use.

IB - Interior Building

Doors open wide enough to let a wheelchair or scooter user enter, and have handles that are easy to use. Interior ramps are

wide enough and have handrails. Stairs, if present, have handrails. If there is an elevator, it is available for public/patient use at

all times the building is open. The elevator has easy to hear sounds and Braille buttons within reach. The elevator has enough

room for a wheelchair or scooter to turn around. If there is a platform lift, it can be used without help.

R - Restroom

The restroom is accessible and the doors are wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair or scooter and easy to open. The

rest-room has enough rest-room for a wheelchair or scooter to turn around and close the door. There are grab bars which allow easy

transfer from wheelchair to toilet. The sink is easy to get to and the faucets, soap, and toilet paper are easy to reach and use.

E - Exam Room

The entrance to the exam room is accessible, with a clear path. The doors open wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair or

scooter and are easy to open. The exam room has enough room for a wheelchair or scooter to turn around.

T - Exam Table/Scale

The exam table moves up and down and the scale is accessible with handrails to assist people using wheelchairs or scooters. The

weight scale is able to accommodate a wheelchair.

A Bus Route Guide -The Doctor Directory lists bus stops within blocks of our Primary Care Doctor's office, so you can choose a Doctor that is easy for you to

reach. We encourage you to call your Doctor’s office for accessible pathway and curb information. Ask your local transit agency for wheelchair lift information.
