“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” – Luke 1:28 After Jesus, we look to Mary as an ideal steward. Her entire life was lived in obedience to God’s call. Mary teaches us to live with joy for all we have been given. Just as the moon re-flects the light of the sun, Mary rere-flects the light of

Christ. Like Mary, we are called to reflect Christ’s light to the world through our gratitude and generosity.

Sunday Mass Worship Guides

Sunday Mass worship guides will now be available for you to download and view on your mobile phone or tablet. Simply scan the QR Code below or PDF version is also available for you to download and print from our website.

The worship guide contains the Sunday readings, hymns and responses.

x Open the QR Code reader on your phone.

x Hold your device over a QR Code so that it’s clearly visible within your smartphone’s screen. Two things can happen when you correctly hold your smartphone over a QR Code.

The phone automatically scans the code. On some readers, you have to press a button to snap a picture, not unlike the but-ton on your smartphone camera. If necessary, press the butbut-ton. Your smartphone reads the code and navigates to the intended destination, which doesn’t happen instantly. It may take a few seconds on most devices.

From Our Pastors Desk

A Reflection for the Third Sunday of Advent

And the First Anniversary of our Diocesan and Parish

Consecration to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Between December 9-12, 1531, the Most Blessed Virgin Mary ap-peared to an Aztec native, St. Juan Diego, on the hill of Tepeyac out-side of what is now Mexico City. Juan Diego described her as a young girl of 15 or 16, a "mestiza" or a person of mixed race, sur-rounded by a great light. She was dressed as an Aztec princess, wear-ing a black belt around her waist, symbolizwear-ing pregnancy. She told Juan that she was the "Mother of the One True God through Whom everything lives..." and instructed him to tell the bishop that a shrine must be built for her on the site. When Juan delivered Our Lady's message to the bishop, he was understandably skeptical and asked for a sign. Our Lady then told Juan to gather the roses that were blooming on the hill in his outer cloak (tilma) and bring them to her. She arranged the roses in the tilma Herself, tied the bundle up, and instructed Juan to bring them to the bishop, but not to open the tilma until he was in the bishop's presence. Juan obeyed. When he opened the tilma before the bishop and the others in the room, the roses fell to the floor and the image of Our Lady appeared on the tilma exactly as Juan had seen her.

The image itself has been the subject of several scientific investiga-tions in modern times and lacks an explanation. Nearly 500 years later, the tilma shows no sign of decay.

Our Lady came as an evangelist to the Americas to herald ‘a year of favor from the Lord” to the Meso-American peoples. In "la moreni-ta", the little dark-haired girl, as She was affectionately called, the indigenous peoples saw a face that looked like their own and heard a voice that spoke in their own language. She came pregnant with the Christ whom she came to make known. Our Lady herself accomplished what the Franciscan missionar-ies could not; the conversion of the people. In the years following the apparition, an estimated 5 million people were bap-tized. The shrine of Guadalupe in Mexico City remains a major pilgrimage site to this day.

Advent is about watching and waiting for the coming of Christ, both at the end of time but also to us today. But even as we wait, God is with us in the waiting. We are not alone or left to our own devices.

During the apparitions, Juan's uncle fell gravely ill. He went to find a priest but avoided the hill of Tepeyac lest Our Lady delay him. Mary, however, was waiting for him on the road. She said to him, "Listen, put it into your heart, my youngest and dearest son, that the thing that disturbs you, the thing that afflicts you, is nothing. Do not let your countenance, your heart be disturbed…Am I not here, I, who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not the source of your joy? Are you not in the hollow of my mantle, in the crossing of myarms? Do you need anything more? Let nothing else worry you, disturb you." He returned to find his uncle completely healed.

There are many things which can "disturb and afflict us". Mary says to us what she once said to Juan Diego; "Do not fear...am I not here with you? Am I not your Mother?" She came once to herald the Advent of salvation and new life in Jesus and She Herself brought about the conversion of the people to whom She came. Her maternal love for the Church continues to draws us more deeply into the Heart of Her Son.

“Have no anxiety…rejoice always…pray without ceasing…in everything be thankful…remember God is faithful”. In this, and held in the prayer of Mary Immaculate, the “little dark haired girl” we can find a reason for hope and say we are in need of nothing more.

Immaculate Conception Mothers’ Retreat Update~

We prayed, we discerned, we took all of the information we had around our current situation, we prayed again, we listened, we discerned, we dialoged with the Retreat House, we prayed again, we discerned and listened, and we believe we have come to the conclusion the Holy Spirit stirred in us. I know this, and yet it pains me to type these words… deep breath… the 2020 Mothers’ Retreat will be postponed until next year February 26-27, 2022… exhale. I am shaking my head still as I say the words I thought I would not speak… and as we have all said time and time again, in many given situations… God has other plans. And while this decision pained us in the mak-ing, and remains such, we know and trust the hand and heart of our Trinitarian God… Father, Son and Holy Spirit who has only “the best plans for our welfare and not for our woe.”

Before I explain the reasoning behind this, allow me to present you with some good news. We are not canceling the retreat, let me stress that we are postponing the retreat. As many of you know I was planning for this to be my last Mothers’ Retreat after 24 years, not that it would not go on without me… and splendidly it will. I just want you to be assured that wherever life takes me in this year to come… I pledge to you, if it is Gods will… to be there to see this Retreat to fruition. In addition, and this is the good news… we will hold

a Women’s Day of Prayer on May 8,2021 at our Church. It is going to be an amazing grace filled day of prayer, reflection, camaraderie, sharing, Mass, speakers, food, fun and more pray-er. Essentially it will be a long day/evening of prayer in all ways that we can imagine… sacred joy! We are plan-ning this for May, on the off chance that our current Covid situation remains as is… we will be able to still gather in a large group inside the Church and can still have small group sharing outside. Don’t you worry about the de-tails… they are coming along and we have a myriad of plans that will see this to fruition in the most beautiful way… with the Holy Spirit as our guide…we have no concerns! We promise to have much of what our Mothers’ Retreat has to offer on this glorious Day of Prayer! You will certainly receive a sign up email or letter about this in February.

To dispel some of your concerns please allow me to answer questions that may be coming to mind. The Re-treat House is only allowing 45 reRe-treatants at a time in the building. If we were to hold the reRe-treat for only 45 Moth-ers’ we would be turning 55 people away. In addition, we would not be able to break down into small groups, as the Retreat house is not permitting this. We would also be limited as to how many people can eat in the dining hall… we would need to spread out in other rooms to eat our meals. There were many other restrictions that we have no control over. We would not have massages and let’s face it… the social would not be what it has been. We would be limited in more ways than we can even imagine. We did check on a back to back retreat… doing two weekends in a row, and there is no open weekends from now through the summer. There are some small groups booked, however, even if we ran our retreat and shared the house that would limit our numbers even more. We are planning this retreat as if it is happening in February on the off chance that a date becomes availa-ble in the Spring or Summer, and there will be dramatically less to no restrictions. In that case we will be ready to roll. Your Triple T’s… Tenderhearted, Thankful Treasures Team is doubly hard at work praying, meeting and pre-paring for the many ways our gracious God will lead us! They are my joy… and your joy is that we will have our Day of Prayer in May. Have hope dear ones… and anticipate the delight God has planned for us!

I hear you asking… what is the theme for our Retreat? As the good Lord led us to our theme apropos last year… He once again prevails in all knowing… our Theme being: “Motherhood Treasured and Evolving ~ Giving

thanks to God and Letting Go”. A lot of that going on now! It will be cathartic as it always is!

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Call me at 908-672-8114 or reply to this email. We are most grateful for your ongoing prayers, support and love of God your radiate with warmth and brilliance on the altar of your lives.

Before I conclude, I ask that we pray together… the reflections and prayer below. I found it powerful today, of all days that I was sending this email. Sometimes we need to put down the rake and call it quits. I assure you that we are not, we are not putting down the rake! We are clearly committed to you and the abundant fruits this retreat has produced over the years. We have set out the project and complete it… and it will produce a harvest divine! With love and great gratitude, Jeanine

Thank You, Good Saint Nick’s!

Glory to God in the Highest...found wrapped in pieces of cloth...

lying in a manger

".

The holy family experiencing the pain and aftermath of childbirth...

now rest in a stable. Dark and alienated from comfort and care, seen

briefly by shepherds who are sent to find them there.

In the warmth and beauty of countless cathedrals and sanctuaries, this picture of

God with us

is reenacted and

remembered. Yet our understanding falls short so very quickly and the illusion of life blocks out the

simplici-ty of God's truth.

There is no place we can go without God being with us.

There is no pain...physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually

that God does not understand.

There is nothing greater than God's unconditional love and grace.

Being clothed in God's Spirit brings life more abundant.

Those in need will search for God in you.

God's love will wrap you up for all eternity.

We join with the song of the angels... "

Glory to God in the

high-est...who comes to be with us... bringing peace and hope for all who seek and find.

"

I give thanks and praise on bended knee for YOU who bring Christ into the world time and time again

through your selfless acts of love given freely and vastly on the altar of your life. The savory signs of

Christ’s presence are found in the multitude of charitable works you offer to the least of these through

our Operation Saint Nick, the Alternative Gift Giving Fair, Food Collections, Penny Collections… the

list is long, however never greater than my great gratitude! Pray with me the words of Father Henri

Nouwen who speaks of what we perceive being little, essentially being immense!

“Our salvation comes from something small, tender, and vulnerable, something hardly noticeable. God, who

is the Creator of the Universe, comes to us in smallness, weakness, and hiddenness.

I find this a hopeful message. Somehow, I keep expecting loud and impressive events to convince me and

oth-ers of God's saving power; but over and over again I am reminded that spectacles, power plays, and big

events are the ways of the world. Our temptation is to be distracted by them and made blind to the "shoot that

shall sprout from the stump." When I have no eyes for the small signs of God's presence - the smile of a baby,

the carefree play of children, the words of encouragement and gestures of love offered by friends - I will

al-ways remain tempted to despair.

The small child of Bethlehem asks for my full attention. The work of our salvation takes place in the midst of a

world that continues to shout, scream, and overwhelm us with its claims and promises. But the promise is

hid-den in the shoot that sprouts from the stump, a shoot that hardly anyone notices.

The promise is hidden in the heart of Jesus that beats

passionately within you! With THANKSGIVING I

hum-bly exclaim... O NIGHT DIVINE!

With love and great gratitude,

Pro-Life Corner

The celebration of Christmas on Friday of this week should renew in us a deep appreciation for the value of each human life. The God of the universe, knowing that we could not redeem ourselves, assumed our human nature in order to save each one of us. When we re-alize the true meaning of Christmas we see in it God's pro-found affirmation of the dignity and value of each human life. Human life is so valuable and sacred to God that He sees fit to humble Himself and take on our nature to redeem each one of us. God has become man so that we can be lifted up to God. Christmas has changed everything for humanity. Each of us shares the same human nature united to God and to one another. Christmas contains so many lessons teaching us about God's great love for each one of us and how we are to respond to such love for all human life - a King who lowers himself to be born into poverty to save his people, a coura-geous mother who trusted and knew that with God's help she could overcome what the secular world would tell her is an impossible situation and it would be best to end the life of the child, a courageous adopting father who would not abandon a mother and child in need, parents who risked everything they possessed including their own lives to keep their child safe while he was in the womb and after birth. We need to see that Christmas shows us that each human life in whatev-er condition or circumstance is precious to God, and God sees in each human life His own image and likeness. As Jesus is a gift from God to us, so too is each human life a gift that God gives to the world. We need to realize that Jesus came into the world for each person, including the child in the womb, the disabled, the sick, the neglected and elderly. Jesus excludes no one. When we look at the Child Jesus in the manger it should reveal to us, in an amazing way, that each human life has a dignity beyond all measure. Seeing the Child Jesus in the manger should lead us to a new outlook on each human life, one that does not permit us to treat another person as an object or something to be kept or disposed of at our will. We need to take a moment at the manger and clear-ly see the goodness and light of Jesus, and His total love for all people, born and still in the womb. No politician, no pres-ident, no judge, can change the absolute truth that each hu-man life is of infinite value and precious to God. This Christ-mas let us open our eyes, minds, and hearts to the God made man to see the love that reaches out to all humanity and calls us to a sincere respect for all human life from the moment of conception until natural death.

Glory to God in the highest!

My precious Lord, Jesus, I adore You with profound love and rejoice in the

celebra-tion of Your birth. Your love for us is unfathomable, it is glorious

transform-ing,

awe-inspiring, and deeply personal.

You chose to come and dwell among us, being born into poverty, rejection and humility. Yet Your mother knew

whom she bore,

Her heart was filled with tender love as she adored her Child and her God.

Help me, dear Lord to come to love You with the heart of Your mother. Invite me to adore You with St. Joseph and

the poor shepherds.

Reveal to me the glorious power of Your birth and change my life on account of this perfect gift of Yourself. I love You, dear Lord Jesus. Help me to love You with all

my heart.

Newborn Savior of the World, I trust in You. Mother Mary and St. Joseph,

Pray for me and for all. Amen.

The Office of Children

s Faith Formation

would like to wish all of our families a Merry

Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Adviento

Jesús no excluye a nadie.

a conocer.

No

temas ... ¿No estoy aquí contigo? ¿No soy tu Madre?"
