The Pan/Parapan American Games

Athletes' Village is situated in the West Don Lands, a new waterfront community located east of downtown Toronto. The Athletes' Village will offer athletes, coaches and team officials comfortable lodging and a home away from home during the Games. Once the Games are over, the Village will provide Toronto residents with a range of options in of options in housing, retail and recreational facilities.

Net Electric Limited, in partnership with EllisDon Ledcor PAAV Inc, was contracted to participate in this unique design-build project. All electrical, life-safety and telecommunication systems will be supplied, installed and commissioned well in advance of the Games and retrofitted for residential and commercial spaces afterwards. These systems include all feeders, branch wiring, interior and exterior lighting, fire alarm, security, data, voice, CCTV and CATV networks.

The Ajax GO Station is a train and bus terminal, connected to the GO transit system which is responsible for the annual transportation of over 55 million passengers over 10, 000 sq/km. Located on Westney Road, Ajax, Ontario, this project involves the construction of a new 1000 space multi-level parking structure with elevators, tunnel access to platforms, new Kiss & Ride area and bicycle storage facilities. Connections to the existing platforms is included.

This project is a design build project led by Kenaidan with MCW and Net Electric providing all electrical and

telecommunications design input and installation.

Net Electric was responsible for the installation of the roof-top solar array, diesel generator, power distribution system, lighting system, generator system, network and telephony cabling, security and car counting systems, P.A. system and parking guidance system.

The Revitalization of Union Station, a 900,000 sq ft project, involves the replacement, upgrade, relocation and construction of various elements throughout the facility. It’s a five year project with five phases. The scope of work includes the excavation and underpinning of Union Station to construct a new retail concourse under the existing trackways and platforms in addition to the excavation of new pedestrian tunnels and the renovation of existing office and retail space.

Net Electric is working closely with Carillion Canada to overhaul the concourse and office areas throughout. The systems being installed include power distribution, lighting, paging, fire alarm, CCTV, network cabling, wireless access points, security and access control. Once complete, these areas will serve the public with ticketing, wayfinding and passenger assistance. Also included are new offices for Metrolinx, City of Toronto and Union Station employees complete with all amenities.

The Mississauga MiWay Bus Rapid Transit will be a high efficiency east to west transit corridor and service to be constructed across Mississauga. The system will use dedicated roads and services to provide faster and easier through Mississauga and the GTA. This project is being cooperatively organized by Metrolinx, the Canadian Federal Government, and the City of

Mississauga. It will service 18km across the city and connect to a 100km GTA

The first segment of this project consists of three new bus terminals; Central Park, Dixie, and Tomken. Net Electric will be working closely with B. Gattardo Construction Ltd. to adhere to project specifications and guidelines and will be responsible for the following systems: lighting, distribution, fire alarm, communication cabling, mechanical power, street lighting and street signage.

The Woodbine Race Track is an entertainment complex located at 555 Rexdale Blvd. It is home to world class horse racing, several restaurants, and has an in house casino containing more than 2000 slot machines.

In May 2011 the Woodbine

Entertainment Group completed a 27,400 sq/ft gaming floor expansion within the Woodbine Racetrack. The Ontario Lottery Gaming Corporation is responsible a large portion of the construction in the newly created floor

space. This includes: 1000 new slot machines, game video feeds, signage, lighting in OLG operated areas, and security in OLG operated areas. Net Electric worked closely with Eastern Construction and OLG to ensure the timely installation of the expanded gaming floors OLG operated systems, all while the existing facility was fully operational. This encompassed systems such as: power distribution for slot machines, lighting, complete communication system and security.

operational 24/7/365. The project was comprised of several different sectors including the 188 seat Willows Restaurant, two service bars, MIS room, audio video room, smoking shelter, redemption area and the greatly expanded gaming floor.

Union Station is a major commuter railway station and the central inter-city transportation facility in Toronto, located on Front Street West and occupying the south side of the block bounded by Bay Street and York Street in Downtown. Serving 200,000 passengers a day, it is the busiest passenger transportation facility in Canada. The building has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada. The newly renovated space will be the new home for METROLINX corporate and executive employees.

The West Wing space consists of five floors, some historically significant, with an overall area of approximately 100,000 square feet. Net Electric is working closely with Giffels Westpro Construction in this challenging environment to supply and install power distribution, lighting, network cabling, wireless access points, security and fire alarm systems. Once complete, this facility will be connected to the outside world via a dedicated single-mode fibreoptic pipeline nearly 1Km long.

The Queenston Plaza is one of the busiest US/Canadian border crossings. Located in Queenston Ontario, the plaza provides customs services for over 2, 500 commercial crossings per day. Since 9/11, border crossings and procedures have changed. The NFBC commissioned a multi-stage

redevelopment that would meet their new needs. The project consisted of over 60,000 sq/ft of office and inspection space, a new commercial and passenger

bus inspection station, a new 10,000 sq/ft inspection warehouse and a 50,000 sq/ft over head canopy area. Net Electric coordinated along side Aecon to install the fire alarm system, distribution system, communication cabling system, lighting system, CCTV and security conduit and wire system, mechanical power feeds and building automation system conduit and wire feeds.

The Shops at Don Mills is an outdoor shopping centre located at Don Mills Rd. and Laurence Ave. East. The outdoor complex was constructed on the site of the demolished Don Mills Shopping Centre.

With 72 shops and several office buildings ranging from one to two floors, Shops at Don Mills houses more than 500, 000 square feet of rentable floor space. A private network of streets and walkways provide vehicle and pedestrian

connections throughout the shopping center.

Net Electric performed as a sub-contractor to Ellis Don and was responsible for providing the power distribution system, generator system, fire alarm system, communication cabling, music / PA system, outdoor lighting system and indoor lighting system for the common areas.

One King Street West is a slender condominium-hotel located in the heart of the Toronto financial district. Built on to the existing Dominion Bank building constructed in 1914, it now stands 51 stories tall and boasts features such as: parking levels, atrium, specialty theatre, pool, business centre, restaurants, and a rooftop fitness centre.

The project was comprised of four different components: The renovation of the 1914 Dominion Bank building, which was overhauled to create approximately 200 residential suites. A new private

restaurant and business centre for residents. The former banking hall on the mezzanine level was refurbished in to a theatre/concert hall. And the addition of a new 50 story, 330 suite skyscraper formed on the west side of the original Dominion Bank building.

Net Electric worked closely with Ellis Don to ensure the timely installation of the buildings: power distribution system, lighting system, fire alarm system, high voltage system, generator system and electrical feeds to mechanical equipment.

Century Gardens is a recreational facility offering over 300 recreation programs to patrons. Located in the city of Brampton, Ontario, the facility boasts features such as soccer fields, aerobic studio, fitness centre, snack bar, steam room, auditorium, high capacity pool, two high capacity multipurpose rooms and two full size arenas.

The project consisted of several components which doubled the over all size of the centre. Some of the highlights

are a new full-size ice rink as well as the refurbishment of the existing rink, the renovation of the pool and lobby area and a new entrance and lobby. Net Electric secured the electrical contract with PCL Constructors and was responsible for providing the distribution system, lighting system, fire alarm system, P/A system, audio video system and extensive communication cabling systems.

The Hamilton GO Centre is located at 36 Hunter St. E, Hamilton, Ontario. It is the main terminal in Hamilton for GO transit train and bus services. It also doubles as a private regional bus terminal for private intercity coach carriers.

Originally built in 1933 for the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway, it is the only example of Art Moderne Railway Station architecture in Ontario. The $16,000,000 project goal was to

convert the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway station into a facility that would have the size and modern capabilities to consolidate the Hamilton Go Transit train and bus services into one complex.

Net Electric worked with Dagmar Construction and Go Transit to ensure the timely and proper installation of the power distribution system, motor control centers and control panels.

St. John’s Rehab Hospital is located at 285 Cummer Av. Toronto and is the only hospital in Ontario solely dedicated to rehabilitation. The institution strives to help people return to active productive lives and can accommodate 160 beds. Percon Construction subcontracted Net Electric to demolish and upgrade the buildings distribution system to allow for the upcoming 49,000 sq, ft expansion.

The upgraded distribution system included new switchboards, splitters, transformers, disconnects and feeders. The parties worked together to adhere to project specifications and meet the demanding timelines, all the time being mindful of the budget.

The Upper Canada Mall is one of the largest shopping centers in Canada. It was established in 1974 at the corner of Yonge St. and Davis Dr. West. The centre has two floors allowing for 230 commercial retail units, which total over 820,000 sq/ft of rentable floor space. During the project the mall underwent extensive renovations to areas such as entrances, lobbies and the food court. The project also included a 100,000 sq/ft

expansion, which allowed for 30 new commercial retail units, and one new anchor commercial retail unit. New outdoor tower lighting features were also added to the north, west, and south entrances. Net Electric worked closely with Ledcore to complete all work according to specifications and timeline requirements. Net Electric also installed systems such as the distribution, lighting, and fire alarm.

Cara Operations Limited is a Canadian company that provides catering services to airlines and operates several restaurant chains. This unique 27,900 square meter facility functions as Cara's head office, research facility and flight kitchen. The flight kitchen processes in-flight airline catering to Cara's domestic and international airline clients at Pearson International Airport. With Kenaidan Contracting as the constructor, this project was completed on a fast-

track, 15-month schedule. A design-build job within the grounds of Lester B. Pearson International Airport, it presented many challenges which were met and overcome. Net Electric was responsible for all of the electrical systems and related commissioning. These included distribution and branch wiring, exterior and interior lighting, fire protection, lightning protection and various low-voltage systems.

The Whitby GO Station is a train and bus terminal, connected to the GO transit system which is responsible for the annual transportation of over 55 million passengers over 10, 000 sq/km. Located at 1350 Brock St. South, Whitby, Ontario, the facility has two platforms, two tracks and capacity to hold over 3000 vehicles. Metrolinx, looking to improve the customer experience and encourage more GO Transit patrons, expanded the southern lot into a new multilevel parking

structure able to accommodate an additional 1400 vehicles. Net Electric secured the electrical contract for Kenaidan, and worked closely along side one another to adhere to project specifications and timelines. Net Electric was responsible for the installation of the distribution system, lighting system, generator system, security system, P.A. system and parking guidance system.

Net Electric worked closely with Milne & Nicholas Limited to adhere to project deadlines and specifications. Net Electric was responsible for installing the lighting systems, distribution system, voice and data communications cabling, fire alarm system, generator system, security system, clock tower power and lighting, and a UPS system that also operates for the York Regional Police Headquarters and provisions for the 911 emergency response communications system.

The GTAA's 10,000 square meter Administration building and operations Control Centre underwent extensive refurbishment of the entire building. Architectural, mechanical, electrical, and life safety changes were completed to meet current standards and codes and the GTAA's operations requirements. Exterior work included a new concrete entrance canopy, stairs, drop-off roadway, and landscaping.

Net Electric was responsible for the safe demolition of existing electrical systems in addition to the supply/installation of electrical feeders, distribution, lighting and life-safety systems. Low voltage systems and raceways were also part of our scope and integration with various trades was crucial. This project was completed on a fast track, four month schedule.
