The present document is a pre-announcement of the 2016 call for proposal for the Grant Research Programme of the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon WHY A PRE ANNOUNCEMENT

It aims at giving sufficient time for researchers and research teams to prepare good pro-posals and submit them on time online for the first time for this programme.

WHO CAN APPLY

• Full-time academic staff in Lebanon (PhD holders, instructors, professors, etc.). • Full-time researchers at the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon

(CNRS-L) and other research centers in Lebanon.

• Medical Doctors working in any university or “centre hospitalier universitaire CHU”

PARTICIPATION RULES

• The main investigator submitting the application should be a full time staff.

• Each applicant can participate in more than one project but can be the main investigator in only one project.

• Applicant must be scientifically and financially cleared from previous projects funded by the CNRS-L before submitting new proposals.

• The current programme supports proposals from young scientists with at least two post doctoral scientific publications pertinent to the proposal topic.

• Associated Research Units (ARU) should focus on multidisciplinary research and aim to serve the long-term development strategy of Lebanon. The project should be carried

out by at least three principal investigators supported by several co-investigators affiliat-ed with a number of universities.

THEMES

Priority for the 2016 call for proposals of the Grant Research Programme will be given for the following fields:

DURATION

The duration of a research project can range between 12 and 24 months.

The duration of an associated research unit can range between 24 and 36 months. FUNDING

The funding of each proposal will depend on the nature and duration of the proposed ac-tivities and must be justified in terms of the needed resources to achieve the objectives of the project. The requested funding should therefore be realistically adjusted to the actual needs of the proposal, taking into account synergies with any other funds available and distributed as follows:

-­‐ Personnel  Costs  (40-­‐50%):  indemnities  for  temporary  research  assistants,  techni-­‐ cians,  master  and  PhD  students.  Permanent  staff  is  not  allowed  to  charge  salaries  or   any  additional  indemnities  from  the  present  project.

-­‐ Small   equipment,   Consumables   and   Fieldwork   (50-­‐60%):   Expenses   that   are   necessary  for  project  implementation.  Expenses  for  local  dissemination  of  results  to   the  scientific  community  and  society  (publication  of  articles  in  technical  and  scien-­‐ tific   journals,   organization   of   meetings   and   seminars   etc.)   are   eligible.   Computer   hardware   and   software   are   not   considered   as   eligible.   The   researcher   cannot   ac-­‐ quire   with   funds   allocated   by   the   CNRS   materials   for   personal   use   (mobile   phone,   laptop,  etc.)  and  their  accessories,  which  should  be  provided  by  the  host  institution   of  the  project.  Overhead  costs  are  not  eligible.  

The maximum fund per research project should range between 10 to 20 Million Lebanese Pound per year. The maximum fund per associated research unit should not exceed 60 Million Lebanese Pound per year.

APPLICATION

Proposals should be submitted online (http://www.cnrs.edu.lb/grp/submission starting March 7, 2016) including administrative information of the researchers/institutions, de-scription of the research project, its context, impact on the society, activities, work plan and budget requested.
