Marketing Text: Promoting the development of cars that are smarter, safer and cleaner is a priority of many of the EU’s strategies e.g., the 'European Information Society 2010' (i2010) strategy to boost growth and jobs. The 'intelligent car' an i2010 'flagship initiative' to show how ICT can improve public services and quality of life ( "i2010–European Information Society for growth &

employment" {SEC 2005 717 ) . EADIS will aim to develop the skills and infrastructure for the European automotive industry to be at the forefront of development of the ‘intelligent car’ and the flexible/virtual work environment.

Zusammenfassung: Leonardo da Vinci is an European Community programme which aims to support national training strategies through funding a range of transnational partnership projects aimed at improving quality, fostering innovation and promoting the European dimension in vocational training. The programme promotes transnational projects based on co-operation between the various players in vocational training - training bodies, vocational schools, universities, businesses, chambers of commerce, etc. - in an effort to increase mobility, to foster

innovation and to improve the quality of training. The Leonardo da Vinci programme aims at helping people improve their skills throughout their lives.

“the European automotive industry is losing competitiveness as challengers from lower-cost economies have increased their share of world automotive markets” (CLEPA, European Association of automotive supplier’s White paper 2005) . A European solution is required to this problem. EADIS will therefore develop training and infrastructure to enable European companies to operate more innovatively and efficiently.

This project is executed in partnership with: Coventry University (CEPAD), UK

Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Finland, Munster University of Applied Sciences , Germany Turin Polytechnic , Italy

Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands

Beschreibung: A European Challenge

The emergence of new technologies, in particular telematics applicable to transport such as GPS, satellite navigation, 3g etc. offers huge potential to solve a number of societal issues such as congestion, climate change and work life balance however, it is not sufficient in itself to create successful products. Moreover, evidence suggests that the public has been slower to adapt to the development and availability of telematic services than expected.

To solve this problem and take advantage of these new technologies the telematics and design industry need to work together to produce products that assist, interest
