• Basics of Radiation Safety (RS)in hospitals is mandatory to protect patients, staff and public

RS is required for radiation workers working in radiation areas (Radiology, Nuclear Medicine,…etc)

• Education and Training in the RS field are recommended by National and International Laws and Regulations to ensure the beneficial use of ionizing radiation.

• Radiation Protection Educational materials based on the publications of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be delivered during this course along with other references related to Radiation Protection subject. :

• Working at the Medical Physics Department of Tawam Hospital in Al Ain. • Established Quality Assurance program for Diagnostic Radiology X-ray

equipment.

• Conducting Quality Assurance and Radiation Protection Surveys of X-ray equipment in hospitals and clinics both private and government all over UAE • Guest lecturer at UAE University (2001-2002) medical Physics Faculty

Jamila Salem AlSuwaidi, BSc, MSc, PhD

• Consultant Medical Physicist at Dubai Health Authority (DHA), BSc (UAE

University), MSc & PhD (Surrey University, UK), joined DHA since Aug 1984. • Established the Medical Physics Department at the DHA.

• Participated in establishing the Nuclear Medicine Department and created the Radioiodine Therapy service at Dubai Hospital - DHA.

• Founded Radiation Protection and Quality Control programs for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the DHA.

• Participated in the establishment of the Medical Physics undergraduate track at the UAE University.

• Guest lecturer at UAE Univ (2001-2004) and Clinical Instructor for the Higher College of Technology (HCT), Dubai Women College (DWC), Health Sciences, Medical Imaging (1997-2003).

• Managed IAEA National technical projects of control of radiation exposure and participated in IAEA Regional and International Projects.

Awarded UAE Presidential Award for Sciences (Dec 2012) for her achievements in the Radiation in Medicine field.

Awarded the IAEA Certificate of Merit, RAS9055 Project on Strengthen Radiation Safety in Medicine, Nov 2011.

Member of the team who win the Best Technical Project, Picture Achieving and Communication System (PACS) for Radiology Practices, Dubai Government Excellence Award Program, 2008.

Honored as Distinctive Female Employee, Dubai Government Excellence Award Program, 2001.

Awarded Sheikh Rashid Award for Sciences, Dubai Government, 1995.

• Published a number of scientific articles in international journals on subjects in radiation dosimetry and patient radiation safety.

• Contribute in organizing the DHA Radiation Protection educational courses. • Former President of Emirates Medical Physics Society (EMPS), 2005-2009.

Laila Ghuloom Al Balooshi ,BSc, MSc

• Senior Medical Physicist at Dubai Health Authority (DHA), BSc (UAE

• First local employee in Radiation Protection Unit in Medical Physics

Section since 2002.

• Certificate in Routine Hospital Radiopharmacy (Organized by the

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

• Certificate in Management of Medical Equipment, Department of

Medical Engineering and Physics, Kings College Hospital London, UK.

• Regular lecturer on radiation protection given to radiation nurses in

Dubai Hospital

• Supervising newly recruited Medical Physicists.

• Training radiation users from other hospitals.

• Publish Many scientific papers and posters presented in local and

international conferences and educational programs.

• Participate in several projects with the IAEA related to the evaluation of

patient doses in the diagnostic radiology mainly in CT imaging

modality.

• Contribute in organizing national and regional workshops within the

DHA.

Short Biography of the speaker:

Dr. Saad Al Bayatti graduated from the College of

Dentistry, University of Baghdad.

He got his B.D.S. in 1983 and obtained his Master’s in Oral Radiology

from the same University in 1989.

Dr. Al Bayatti started his carrier as a Dentist soon after graduation in

the College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad. He worked in his

specialty as a lecturer in Oral Radiology at the University of Baghdad

from 1989 till 1999.

He has also worked as a lecturer in Oral Radiology at the University of

Ajman from 2000 until 2006.

Dr Saad Joined Tawam Hospital Dental Centre, Al Ain in 2006 and

worked as the Head of Oral Radiology Division, and left the Centre in

2011.

Currently, Dr Al Bayatti is working as a Lecturer in Oral Radiology at

the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sharjah, UAE.
