Dear Parents

This will be out last newsletter for the Term. Term 4 starts back on 12 October.

Lateness to School and Signing In

As some of you are aware, we have been trialling a new “sign in” system for late absences in the morning. Unfor-tunately, this does not appear to be working as some chil-dren are getting later and later and slipping into class after 9.15am – which is when devotions are almost over. Children are expected at school by 8.50am (our first bell) and must be seated in class for the 9.00am bell. Any child who is not in their class at this time will be required to be signed in as “late” at the office by a parent and will re-quire a late slip for their teacher.

Please ensure you support this by ensuring you child is at school on time.

Children Leaving Westminster Christian School

If your child is not returning to Westminster Christian School for 2016 you are required to give one term’s no-tice. Please notify the school office, in writing, if this is the case. Failure to provide the required notice may re-sult in a term being charged to you.

ASB

Our Financial Literacy programme through ASB Get Wise will start this week for the whole school.

Student Teachers

We have three Year 1 Student Teachers joining our Room 1, Room 6 and Room 11. They have their first day on Mon-day 14th September and are training at Laidlaw Christian Teachers College.

Education Services

I have listed some of the education services which are available to parents on the following website: www.parents.education.govt.nz:

0—5 Years—if you are worried about your child’s development, your child can be assessed by the Ministry’s free Early Intervention Service by calling 0800 622 222.

If your child is 16+ you can apply for Scholarships at www.careers.co.nz.

If your child is at High School and is struggling (and aged 16-17) you may want to look into Youth Guar-antees. This offers students more choices and

ways to achieve NCEA Level 2 or equivalent. A range of programmes including Vocational Path-ways including Trade Academies, Service Adade-mies and Tertiary Providers are listed on youthguarantee.net.nz.

Friends of Westminster

The recent Friends of Westminster movie night made a profit of $905—awesome! Thank you to Friends of West-minster for a much enjoyed evening!

Intermediate Market Day

Our Intermediate Students will be holding their Market Day on Friday 18th September. Please have a look around school for the advertisements on what they are selling.

BOT Meeting

The last BOT Meeting for the term will be held on 22nd September at 7.30pm in our staff room.

Sporting Hero Mufti Day

On the last day of term (Friday 25th September) our stu-dents are welcome to come to school dressed as their favourity sporting hero for a gold coin donation.

This donation will be donated to Bible In Schools which will provide bibles for people in Africa.

Library Books

Please ensure all Library Books are back to the library before the end of Week 9.

A note from Auckland Council: Changes to your inorganic collections

Household inorganic collections have changed, and the new collections will start in two phases. From September to November 2015, Auckland Council will introduce the new service to se-lected parts of North Shore, Rodney and Waitakere. If your property is included in this first phase, you will receive a flyer in your letterbox to let you know. The full service will become available across the rest of Auckland, including the areas of North Shore, Rodney and Waitakere not included in phase 1, in stages from February to November 2016. The new ser-vice is:

Annual (one scheduled collection per property) booked by the resident

funded by rates, meaning there is no additional charge to book

provided on-property, meaning material will not be picked up from the kerbside collected in a way that increases the amount of material we can reuse or recycle. Instead of sending everything to landfill, items that can be reused will be picked up separately and distributed through charities and community recycling groups. For more information, visit
