CCA Minutes for the February 26, 2006 Meeting

Cherokee Trail High School Hires Rebecca Jessup

CCA held its spring meeting on February 25, 2006 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Present were co-presidents Susan Bussard and Noel Lenski, vice- president Amy Sommer, secretary Barbara Hill, treasurer Susie McGuinness and newsletter editor Joy Collins, Joel Berk, Jackie Elliott, Amador Fierro, Mary France, Frank Gumerlock, Pierre Habel, Aaron Horton, Rebecca Jessup, Constance Lederer, Carol Murphy, Alison Orlebeke, Crystal Rosenthal, and Helen Vickery.

The first order of business was the elec-tion of officers for the 2006-2008 term. Unanimously elected were Alison Orlebeke of UCB and Amy Sommer of Cherry Creek HS as co-presidents, Joy Collins of The Classical Academy as vice-

president, Frank Gumerlock of Holy Family HS as secretary, Noel Lenski of UCB as treasurer, and Mary France of Liberty HS as newsletter editor.

Items of discussion included information on Latin programs in the state of

Colorado and the possibility of hosting an AP Latin workshop in Colorado in June 2007. Helen Vickery and Amy Som-mer will work to bring this possibility to life.

Following lunch, interested members stayed to read lines 1-115 of Plautus’ Aulu-laria.

Rebecca Jessup, a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Department of Clas-sics, is the new Latin teacher at Cherokee Trail High School. Rebecca previously taught Latin at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Longmont Free University, and at Boulder's New Vista High School. In 2005-2006, she served as a long-term substitute in the Latin classes at Boulder High School and Cherokee Trail high school, thus insuring the viability of the Latin programs at those two schools. In addition, she has maintained a home-school business with Latin as the featured course and is proud to say that one of her home-schooled Latin stu-dents recently was accepted to MIT.
