Amdocs Resource Manager 10

Over seven-fold acceleration of inventory workflows

As service providers strive to become more agile and responsive to growing demands for greater network capacity, higher speeds and reduced costs, network inventory remains a cornerstone of network operations and productivity.

Amdocs Resource Manager is a multi-technology, multi-layer inventory system that is built to accelerate network build, network maintenance, service fulfillment, and service assurance operations. Resource Manager comes with a full suite of applications and an advanced user interface called Network Navigator, to support rapid inventory operations. Version 10 represents the next stage in Amdocs’ evolution of innovative inventory, enabling reduced human effort, faster performance of user tasks and minimized errors. This new release takes a significant step forward in improving network resource planning and operations efficiency.

Enhancements include Amdocs Network Navigator 10, Inventory Workflow Manager, and an all-new Resource Planning module.

Highlights

NETWORK NAVIGATOR

• Over 3x faster user system interaction and task completion • Multisource capability enables search and explore across

third-party inventory databases

• Reduced design fallout and rework with equipment operational status display

INVENTORY WORKFLOW MANAGER

• 7-10x acceleration of common inventory workflows • Highly advanced business process engine with guided

data entry and graphical process flow maps

• Guided user tasks simplify design/assign operations and prevent errors

• 90% reduction in steps required for long serial design/ assign processes

RESOURCE PLANNER • 90% reduction in plan fallout

• Unifies views of current and planned network in a common database

• Isolates planned changes from “operations” and validates them

Network Navigator 10 is the latest user interface for Resource Manager, bringing substantial ease-of-use enhancements including powerful end-to-end network visualizations, context-based search and explore functions, and personalization capabilities. Network Navigator’s Multisource capability extends the user interface to third-party inventory databases, enabling a seamless inventory user experience, end-to-end network search and explore, even before all lines of business have been consolidated into Resource Manager.

Network Navigator 10

Multisource capability extends Network Navigator search and explore across third-party inventory systems

• End-to-end network search and visualizations on all network layers, with topology, service, circuit, equipment and geographical views, and visual indicators for device, port status, fault, and trouble ticket status

• Supports any network topology and provides a complete logical network view with in-view drill-down from the service and logical layers to specific network objects and vice-versa

• On-screen network element operational status helps planners avoid non-operational equipment when designing new services. Alarm status also accelerates service assurance use cases such as customer impact analysis and root cause analysis

• Ability to display planned and actual network simultaneously or in separate views

• Multisource extends search and explore and data import capabilities to third-party inventory databases, trouble ticket systems, and fault management systems

Key Capabilities

Benefits

• Greater user efficiency with rapid drill-down to detailed views

• Higher productivity

• ROI from federation (stepping stone to full consolidation) • Reduced effort to understand service and network

topologies

• Visual identification of network build state, performance and fault status

Typical inventory management activities, such as network design-assign, often require a lengthy series of actions by network planners and engineers. Inventory Workflow Manager reduces the average number of steps by over two thirds in short to medium processes and by up to 90% in long processes. This means that network planners and engineers are able to complete their tasks 7-10 times faster. Since a typical service provider executes thousands of design-assign activities every month, vastly accelerating the design-assign rate will lead to huge OPEX savings.

• Creation and execution of rule-based inventory management workflows composed of modular guided tasks and lights-out processes

• Visual process dashboard and guided tasks accelerate task completion and reduce errors

• Investment protection: wizards and task engine templates can continue to run, enabling a smooth migration to Inventory Workflow Manager

• Management interface for tracking task execution

Inventory Workflow Manager

Key Capabilities

Benefits

• Faster deployment of new workflows • 7x acceleration of design/assign

• Up to 90% reduction in the number of process steps • Lower design/assign error rates

• Prioritization of work assignments • Accurate tracking of task progress

Resource Manager 10 features an all-new version of its planning tool, called Resource Planner. The new Resource Planner runs on the live inventory database to ensure planners are working with an up-to-date view of the network, enabling capture and management of future network changes ahead of their implementation. Planned changes are isolated from operations during validation against the live network. This results in a reduction of up to 90% in plan fallout and rework, leading to a 15% acceleration of network build. Resource Planner also has sophisticated resource reservation rules and visibility to improve resource allocation efficiency and manage conflicts between ad-hoc and long-running plans.

Resource Planner

Amdocs Resource Planner allows future network changes to be validated ahead of implementation

• Plans are based on the live network rather than an offline “sandbox”, reducing plan fallout

• Isolates planned future changes from the operational network • Current and planned networks can be viewed simultaneously • Sophisticated resource reservation rules and visibility to ensure

optimal use of network resources

• Immediate detection of conflicts between new plans and existing plans

• Ability to amend plans and transfer resources, without plan rewrites • Validates planned changes against the operational network

Key Capabilities

Benefits

• 90% reduction in plan fallout and rework • 15% acceleration of network build

• 30% increase in planning department capacity • 20% reduction in annual engineering OPEX • 10% reduction in annual network CAPEX spend

(redundant plans eliminated)
