Lorenzo Degli Esposti (Milan, 1977)
Lorenzo Degli Esposti graduated with a degree in Architecture in 2002 (supervisors:
Francesco Gnecchi Ruscone and Filippo Tartaglia) and earned a Phd in Architecture and Urban Design in 2008 (supervisor: Ernesto d’Alfonso) at the Politecnico di Milano.
Lorenzo Degli Esposti joined Paolo Lazza, becoming founding partner and director of Degli Esposti Architetti in 2006. In 2007 and 2008, Degli Esposti Architetti was selected by the Triennale di Milano within the 30 firms of the city invited to the Open Studio event. In 2012, Degli Esposti Architetti was selected by the École Spéciale d’Architecture de Paris, within 50 leading international young firms invited to the Pavillon Spéciale initiative. In the last five years, Degli Esposti Architetti has been included in the top 100 Italian firms
according to their annual income (source: national newspaper IlSole24Ore-prof. Norsa).
Major projects and consultancies by Degli Esposti Architetti include Residenze Carlo Erba in Milan, the second allotment of the Autostrada Pedemontana Lombarda and some real estate operations, under construction.
Lorenzo Degli Esposti has been having collaborations with Peter Eisenman, Kisho Kurokawa, Aimaro Isola and other renewed architects and engineers.
Lorenzo Degli Esposti was founding partner and director of the Architectural & Urban Forum (known under the acronym AUFO) in 2009, a Milan-based independent research agency, whose aim is the investigation and the intervention in the urban. AUFO’s projects led to the manifesto of the Assisted Squatting by Lorenzo Degli Esposti and Yona Friedman and to several activities in collaboration with Guglielmo Mozzoni.
In 2014 Lorenzo Degli Esposti founded Tulpenmanie - Galleria del disegno d'architettura and has been organizing exhibitions, such as 02 | 06 and 30<30, promoting young authors from all over the world. He is also producing his own works, mainly graphic installations on paintings by Canaletto and other landscape painters and drawings by architects. Thanks to his Altanella rampante on Grassi and Monestiroli’s Chieti project, Lorenzo Degli Esposti has been included in the Masters of Perspective gallery of KooZA/rch.
In 2015 Lorenzo Degli Esposti was appointed curator of the Padiglione Architettura of the EXPO 2015 Belle Arti of Vittorio Sgarbi, programme by the Regione Lombardia in
collaboration with the Triennale di Milano. He was responsible of the conception and organization of the convention cycle Milano capitale del moderno, hosted in the Belvedere of the Grattacielo Pirelli, and of the exhibitions La Città Ideale. Omaggio a Guglielmo Mozzoni and Architettura sintattica.
Lorenzo Degli Esposti has been teaching architecture and urban design at the Politecnico di Milano, the Università degli Studi di Genova and within the ATHENS Programme,
focusing on composition and syntax and on the study of architectural precedents, from the Renaissance to the Modern Movement. He has given lectures and critics at the IUAV Venice, Accademia Adrianea Rome, Facoltà di architettura Aldo Rossi Cesena, Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera Milano, Università degli Studi Kore Enna, FAI Fondo Ambiente Italiano Milano and other institutions.
Lorenzo Degli Esposti’s works have been exhibited at the Secession in Wien; Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia (Brasil); ISISUF – Istituto Internazionale di Studi sul Futurismo, Milan; Farm Cultural Park, Favara (AG – Italy); Isola Art Center, Milan; Triennale di Milano and other institutions.
