Administrative Master Syllabus

Purpose:

It is the intention of this Administrative Master Syllabus to provide a general description of the course, outline the required elements of the course and to lay the foundation for course assessment for the improvement of student learning, as specified by the faculty of Wharton County Junior College, regardless of who teaches the course, the timeframe by which it is instructed, or the instructional method by which the course is delivered. It is not intended to restrict the manner by which an individual faculty member teaches the course but to be an administrative tool to aid in the improvement of instruction.

Catalog Course Description:

In-depth study and applications of trigonometry including definitions, identities, inverse functions, solutions of equations, graphing, and solving triangles. Additional topics such as vectors, polar coordinates and parametric equations may be included.

II. Course Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes – Upon successful completion

of this course, students will: Methods of Assessment

1. Compute the values of trigonometric functions for key angles in all quadrants of the unit circle measured in both degrees and radians.

2. Graph trigonometric functions and their transformations.

3. Prove trigonometric identities. 4. Solve trigonometric equations. 5. Solve right and oblique triangles.

6. Use the concepts of trigonometry to solve applications.

Final Exam (Required)

"Trigonometry" by Lial, Pearson Publishing, 11th edition.

Students must have computer access to the the WCJC website, their WCJC student email and online accounts. WCJC has open computer labs, with internet access, on all campuses for students to use.
