According to the BMJ (formerly known as the British Medical Journal), physicians walk six miles per day, or more when they are on call while they make their rounds through the hospital to treat patients. Nurses, though typically working in an assigned unit, still log an average of two to three miles per day, according to a study published by Kaiser-Permanente. Given the mobile nature of work involved in the healthcare services, there lies a high degree of demand for mobile access of patient information.

Many organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, Partners HealthCare and the Veterans Administration have recognized how mobile tools can improve the delivery of care.

eMDs Rounds – The Solution

Mobile EHR solutions improve the delivery of care for physicians by providing:

e-MDs Inc., a leading developer of integrated Electronic Health Records  and  practice management software  for physicians and enterprises, engaged Endeavour-The Mobility Company to develop a mobile application for iPhone & iPad that extended a physician’s reach beyond the office. The e-MDs mobile EHR solution needed to provide real-time access to an entire patient chart including medications, symptoms lists, lab and other results, vitals, immunizations, and clinical reminders. Endeavour assisted e-MDs in developing a mobile application which creates a unique User Experience (UX) while incorporating considerations related to mobile device form factor and ergonomics. The primary end users of the application are physicians & clinical staff. They, traditionally, have been the target audience with very specific and challenging requirements related to their clinical practices.

Endeavour helped e-MDs with the overall mobility application design and security framework. Endeavour assisted e-MDs in the following areas:

e-MDs Rounds® allows physicians to view patient data and schedules at the point of care. Rounds® facilitates the capture of charges, and the viewing of lab results.
