EDITORIAL
The big clash between the top teams last week had all the thrills of a grand final and could well be a preview.
Both teams have hard matches again this week. Top team M.C.U. b3ve to do battle with third place Culcaim. This match is at Culcairn where the home ground must give them an advantage which could make this an even game. M.C.U. are now displaying the form that won them the honours last season.
CollinguUie are at home to Temora. With their good win over Holbrook last Saturday, Temora firmly held the vital four place. They will need a further win here to really consolidate that position. 'Gullie proved they are a good side to go down by only two points to M.C.U. at Mangoplah.
Old rivals Wagga and North meet at Robertson Oval. North are now the team to watc~tbey have a good draw from here to the filnals having to meet all teams lower on the ladder. They can make the finals but must
win every game. Wagga, at present. hold fil1th place and with a hard draw ahead a win in this game is vital.
A good even contest should be the clash at Lockhart where Benty are the visitors. On performance through_out the season nothing separates these two. Both have shown a distinct liking for their home grounds which will give Lockhart the advantage today.
Holbrook are at home to The Rock-Yerong Creek. These teams hold the bottom positions at present with Holbrook having had four wim to the Combines one.

W AGGA NOTES
The win last week was probably the highest hurdle crossed this year. Apart from the unfortunate incidents, the game was a very good example of our code.
The 2nds w.ere beaten well and have to realise that the absence of any one or a number of players out ot the team should not be allowed to affect the team greatly.
If the team is affected greatly it
shows, apart from the apparent ability of the players conce..-ned, that the rest of the team has become a little lazy and too reliant on that player.
However, everyone can have a lapse, so we have all had our share ..
We must all start again on our win-ning ~psr: this Satqrday ..
If Geoff Ward and forme-: Tiger,
Milton Breust can play as effectively as they drd 11!-St ~turday, it will br a great start to ·a win.
It is m:.st g...·atifying to see Milton playing with so much enthusiasm afte1 considering to return to his former club, the Wagga Tigers, earlier in the year.
The 2nds by n,qw realise the task ahead of them for the · remainder of the season. To obtain and ,retain either of the first two r~sitions, they must
help each other as they did earlier in the season ..
To choose and to use effectively appropriate Agricultural Chemicals
is to-day a vital Fann Management Problem-See , ••

NOTES
I feel congratulations are in order for both · teams after Saturday's matches. The Bulldogs really showed The Rock their bite, but the Magpies stuck at it till the end and they have many good youngsters coming on.
It p,;oved a point, I think-small towns .just aren't in the race unless a few key players are imported.
You can only k.eep winning Lock-hart and hope for the best re the final four this year.
Bad luck for the seconds to lose Les Harrington at this vital stage. Hope it won't keep you out fo; long, Les. It' is a pity these "kickers" are allowed "open go" by the umpire~. This particular chap !las been at 1t a long time now.
The team has settled down well, especially the back line, and when you get "Megsie" back and maybe Ian Kiog" to strengthen the "big" de-partment, . you should be a good bet for the big one:' .
Congratulations to both Jumor teams on Sunday's wins. Those under 16's just never give up. Roll up to-mo:row a:t_. home again and give them some enc~agement against the top team, Holbrook.

HENTY NOTES
Last week Henty conceded victory to the Tigers in a game; in which the lead changed places seve~al timse .. Ht:nty were in the lead at halftime .. Once again ,Henty's backline played (
a conspicuous part in the game but so did Wagga's.
This supremacy .of the • back divi-sions was reflected in the low scoring.
It was yet another triumph for Henty's fullback, Brian Spencer.
Brian Willis played his usual solid game. He was quiet early, but came right back into the game in the last half with high ma•:king and kicking, and his great display certainly helped to lift Henty ..
Others in the Henty line-up to de-serve mention were Lester Klemke with his fine marking; Dennis "Never Say Die" Lubke, who figured prominently on Henty's backline and was continu-ally going up and collecting the ball; and "Pug" Piltz (pug by name and by nature), who worfied Wagga's for-wards.
To day '!,IICI go to Lockhart and the success of the Bulldogs in recent matches is not going to make it easy fc,; Henty to gain another sorely
need-ed four points.

CK. NOTES
More experience gained is about all
that can be said of last week's
en-counter with Lockhart. It is quite
ob-vious that we must get some big men
for next season, and now is the time
to start looking around ..
Full credit must be given to our
pre-sent 18, who have to battle it out.
against weight supe, nority each week ..
Digby and "Chum" played last week
but had to leave the field and must be
considered doubtful for this week.
It was really pleasing to welcome
back John Klimpsch. Hope the knee
stands up to the ~igors for the r
e-mainder of the season, John.
Eric Michael played his first senior
game and perfo,.-med creditably.
Geoff Rainbird played his last game
with us prior to joining the Northern
Territory Police. We all wish Geoff the
best in his new-job and thank him for
the job he has done so well in the last
couple of seasons .
The 2nds' game was a beauty; had
you not let the opposition get that
four goals to your one point in the
&-st quarter, the four points would
have been yours ..
Brian Michael, Peter Mooney and
Peter Angel of the younger players
deserve a mention ..

HOLBROOK NOTES
Well, that's anothe•, one we didn't
win. Congratulations to Temora on
their victory. It goes to show that
bad kicking is bad football-not so much kicking for goal as the poor
klcking around the ground. You
can't win if you kick to the opposition and that was the sorry story last week when the number of passes that went
astray wt:~·e uncountable.
This week it must be a different
story or we won't win. Just because
the combine hav~ only won one match
means nothing. Don't let us be the
second.
The Seconds had a very good win,
Up to half time they only had 17
men, for the second week in a row, notwithstanding this, they played very
good football and were never in
danger of defeat.
The improvement over the last
few weeks has been ma,;ked. With a
full 18 today, they should make it
the first double for the year.

CULCAIRN NOTES
(By "Percy")
Well, chaps. our bubble burst last week and the sooner we forget that
game the better. Today's game against
Mango should be a beauty, as both
sides will be close to full strength and
Mango will be out to avenge last
round's defeat.
You must win today if you are to get into second position on the ladder. The whole side will have to knuckle
down and play football to win this
match. The fo;wards must play from
in front and help each other a lot
more, also a lot more drive is needed
from the centre line. The backs must
stick much closer to their men and
stop this silly short passing because
when it doesn't come off its just giving goals away.
The Seconds had a great win I'iist
week and showed they will be a big
force in the finals if they can keep this
form up. The-;e is a few lads who
must be very close to gaining senior
selection, so keep trying and you will
make it.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: A
bar-becue and dance will be held in
Gordon Ga•:diner's Woolshed tonight.
All welcome.

M.C.U. NOTES
We obtained four points last week,
but it took another minor miracle to
get it.. Poor 'Gullie, once again they
looked cerfain victors, only to see our forwards kick 5 goals 2 behinds in the
Ia~t 15 minutes to g-:ab the result._. (
Arthur led the fightback, as he did
last time, with a brilliant mark .. Then
he goaled and this led to a patch of
really inspired football. What did you think when Max passed to Tony?
"Big John" in the headgear was
superb, as he always is, and was ably
supported by Allan Joyce, "Dusty", Rav Klimpsch a,nd Rex Burge.
Good to see John Bahr go so well.
considering the quality of the opposi-tion.
The 2nds, alas, we-:e badly beaten
by ~ side thll- ,just kicked straighter.
A pity a few more of these boys don'l
traitl regularly, because last Saturday's
performance shows you have the ability
to test the ability of the better sides.
Best v Collingullie: Maurice
Fine-more, Dick Davis, Da-,-yl Armstrong.
Peter StoH- a,td Kelvin Cla~k.
Judges are tipping Culcairn as
one of this year'f. grand fir.alists. Thi5
could be, but the boys will be out to
prove today which will be the other
side. Let's ~ce that teamwork agair and again- you can do it.

COLLINGULLIE NOTES
1 Our failure to capitalise on our
ad-vantage at three-quarter time again
cost us victory against Ma;goplah.
After what appeared to be a
match-winning lead, we allowed the match to
slip out of our hands ..
Cocky Mc,.,ow turned in his best performance this year, with Noel
Mor-row, Alan Grentell also playing fine
games. Peter Jenkins' marking was a
delight to watch and it is pleasing to
see him regaining form at this time
of the season ..
The seconds surprised everyone
with their accurate kicking and had a
good victory. However, they were un-able to force their way into the "four",
and still remain two points behind.
Peter Whyte, playing only his
sec-ond game, turned in a good display.
Peter Burkinshaw showed what a
great heart he has by lining up with
the boys when things got a little ro~gh
Shirt winners for the matches agamst
North Wagga were John Bruckner and
David Reid ..

TEMORA NOTES
Holbrook's slippery playing surface
took a little time getting used to and with the 'Brook going to a handy first quarter lead, it seemed they would take control..
The backline of both sides held fast but Temara: ~ould be thankful to
Holbrook for fritting away many
promising moves ..
Lyle Bartel's appearance proved an anti-climax and again was on hand when most needed with a goal to seal
the game· .
John Reid had a .grEat dual with
his opposite, Terry Prior, but Jacko's quick thinking and disposal of the loose ball kept Krause and Co. busy
out-witting the opposition ..
The 2nds had opportunities; a .good
proportion territorially, but still goals
went begging. Rodney Baker, Wayne
Krause and Ray Rodway (the three smallest players) showed how to win a bl\11 and put it to good use ..
TIie club held anothe-r wood drive last Sunday. but it appears the club's
real workers are those handful of men
who show yp regularly to anything that
requires the giving of self to the bene-fit of somebody else ..
