+ Bernie Linssen, 90, a charter member of the parish, husband of parishioner Carol Linssen and mother of parishioners Steve (Bonnie), Kurt (Debi), and Chris (Tami) Linssen, and brother of parishioner Eunice Kocken, passed away on July 2, and was accorded Christian burial here on July 8.

After serving in the Korean War, Bernie worked for Shieble and Tuyls Mink Farms and had a mink farm of his own. He started a painting business and for 40+ years, painted homes for clients as well as working with contractors Ron Adrianson and De Leers Construction. Bernie was a kind and compassionate man who taught his sons the value of hard work. In addition to Carol, his wife of 66 years, and his sons and daughters-in-law, he is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and extended family. Bernie was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

+ Leona De Cleene, 99, a charter member of the parish and grandmother of parishioner Andy (Trina) Werner, passed away on July 5, and was accorded Christian burial here on July 8. Along with raising seven children and several foster children, Leona was an active member of St.

Boniface and OLOL, participating in the Christian Mothers, teaching Faith Formation classes, and serving as one of the first female lectors. Education was also important to her.

Leona pursued learning at UW-Green Bay when she was in her 50s. She enjoyed spending time with her family,

camping, bowling, coloring and reading. In addition to three sons and three daughters and their spouses, she is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family. Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Vic.

+ Eileen De Cleene, 73, sister of parishioner Terry (Tom) Stansfield, passed away on June 28, and was accorded Christian burial through Newcomer Funeral Home. Eileen worked in the administrative offices at Schneider National. She enjoyed doing research on her family’s

genealogy and was a talented craftswoman and budding artist, who took many painting classes and made beautiful quilts at the Kewaunee Artisan Center. Eileen and her husband, Pete, loved to spend time with their family, travel, go out to dinner, and watch Jeopardy. In addition to Pete, she is also survived by two sons, step-children, siblings, and extended family.

+ + May Bernie, Leona, and Eileen rest in Christ’s peace! ++

Mass Intention Requests for 2022

We are now scheduling Mass intentions for 2022 (as well as for the rest of 2021) . You are welcome to select one weekend Mass and one weekday Mass, or two weekday Masses. Masses are $10 each. Please contact the Parish Office at (920 336-4033 to schedule intentions.

Pew Project

You may have noticed that the pews in church recently received a makeover! After 20 years, many of them were worn or damaged by the sun, so we had all of the cushions replaced and the seats recovered. Thank you to the OLOL Buildings & Grounds Committee members, Rick Johnson and Tom Rockstroh, for heading up this project, which was made possible by generous donations from our parish family.

Spring Drive-Up Picnic Results

The numbers are finally in! The Spring Drive-Up Picnic was a huge success! We raised $28,207! Thank you again to our awesome Picnic Committee for their hard work and organizing two events in the same year. Also thanks to our corporate and individual donors, volunteers, and those who purchased raffle tickets and food. May God bless you for your generous support!

Beside restful waters he leads me, he refreshes my soul…

Today I would like to focus on a couple different aspects of the Scripture readings we have at Mass this weekend. The first is Psalm 23, probably the most familiar psalm in the bible. My journey with this psalm began in 8th grade. I attended a Catholic School, and when it came to 8th grade graduation, our class needed a class motto. We chose Psalm 23, which you wouldn’t think would be a typical choice for 8th graders, but for myself over time, it has become a guiding force.

Then when I began playing for funerals between 8th grade and 9th grade, more often than not, that was the psalm chosen for the Responsorial Psalm. There is a beautiful simplicity and comfort in the words of this psalm. Each time I do this psalm for a funeral I take away something different from it. And then when my mom died in 2007, I was given A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller to read. We never raised sheep on our dairy farm, and after reading this book, I got the idea that sheep are a little more finicky to raise than cows. Still it is a beautiful image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd and we as His sheep who know His voice.

And so my journey continues with this psalm. I already know that this is the psalm that I want for my funeral when the time comes. And I pray that in this journey, I don’t lose sight of the Good Shepherd or forget His voice. He really does care for us and knows just what we need which leads me into the second aspect.

The second aspect is a line taken from today’s Gospel reading. Jesus realizes that the apostles have been so busy that he says to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Summertime is the perfect time for a retreat. In the 23rd psalm it says, “In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me. He refreshes my soul.” Have you ever gone on a retreat? Mine is long overdue. I will be going on retreat this coming week at the

Redemptorist Retreat Center in Oconomowoc. The silent preached retreat offers Spiritual Conferences, daily Eucharist, opportunity for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, and time for private prayer and rest. There is a simple chapel to pray in and to sit in the school of silence. There is plenty of green space to walk, to reflect, to pray and to meditate. Time to unplug from screens. Time to take personal inventory on how I am doing in my relationship with God. If you have never gone on a retreat, consider going on one. It is one of the best investments that you will ever make in yourself. As I haven’t been on a retreat since before COVID, I ask that you please keep me in your prayers.

God bless, Jody Strnad

Help Us Celebrate Christmas in July!

The Christmas Store Project is celebrating Christmas in July. Please help us get an early start on “stocking the store” for our low income/at-risk families in De Pere. The items will be distributed in December. The following is a short list of most-needed items.

 Week 1: Bath towels and wash cloths

 Week 2: Cleaning supplies

 Week 3: Laundry and dish detergent

 Week 4: Kitchen items (i.e. can opener, sharp knives, kitchen towels, bakeware, cooking utensils)

Please put items in the Christmas decorated box in the Gathering Area.

Thank you for your generosity in helping our needy brothers and sisters in Christ. If you have any questions, please call Jean at (920) 336-7848 or Donna at (920) 337-0905.

Watch for sales and Happy Shopping!

EPH Board Member Needed

Our Lady of Lourdes has been a strong supporter of Ecumenical Partnership for Housing for many years. EPH helps homeless families and those at risk of eviction achieve self-sufficiency. OLOL’s current board member, Deacon Mike, is leaving the board in August, and we’re

looking for a new board member to represent OLOL.

Responsibilities are to represent OLOL at monthly board meetings, to serve as a communications channel between EPH and OLOL, and to attend one monthly committee meeting of your choice. For more information, contact Deacon Mike at deaconmike@lourdesdepere.org or parishioner Pat Hopkins (also EPH Executive Director) at patrickh@ephgb.org or 920-655-2486.

GRACE Community 5K

The GRACE school system GRACE Community 5K Wellness Fun Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, August 28. For more details and to

register, please visit https://

bit.ly/2Si68bQ. The registration fee is only $5 per person and includes a T-shirt, post-race activities and a prize drawing. We look forward to seeing our parishioners, students, staff members, families and friends when we gather together to help kick off the 2021-2022 school year with the GRACE Community 5K!

Back-to-School Store

The Christian Action Committee is assisting the Service League with their 29th Back to School Store. “For those of you unfamiliar with the Back-to-School Store, under normal circumstances, it is a one-day event where children from lower income families can shop for clothing and school supplies all for FREE! The event serves over 3,000 low- income children in Brown County. For safety there will not be a physical store, but we will accommodate the children as much as we can. Thus, more than ever, we need your help so that we can continue to provide local middle school and elementary students with clothing and backpacks full of school supplies. We cannot continue to provide this without your help.”

They are asking churches to collect just two items: socks and underwear. Here are the specific items they are

requesting:

● Girls Athletic Socks (sizes medium and large)

● Boys Athletic Socks (sizes medium and large)

● Girls Underwear (sizes 4 – 14)

● Boys Boxer Briefs (sizes 6 – 20)

Please drop off your donations in the box designated in the Gathering Area. We will be collecting through July 28.

Thank you for your help.

Funeral Notices

In our bulletin, we have been recognizing the deaths of not only our parishioners but their immediate family members. This is something we would like to continue to do, but occasionally someone is omitted. We don’t want to offend anyone, but often funerals are not local, and we don’t have access to an obituary. Other times, the name may not be familiar, and it is simply missed in our local newspaper.

If you have an immediate family member who has passed away and would like us to recognize that person in the bulletin please send us an email at

parish@lourdesdepere.org or call the Parish Office at (920) 336-4033 with details including all of the family members who are parishioners. Thank you!

Woodside Senior Communities Open House

You are cordially invited to attend the Woodside Oaks Senior Independent Living Open House on Wednesday, July 21, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Lunch and tours will be provided. We ask all those planning to attend to RSVP by July 17 by calling (920) 634.3636 or

emailing amackenzie@woodsidelh.org.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, July 21! Thanks much!

July is the Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus

Prayer after Receiving Our Lord in the Eucharist

Lord,

Let your Precious Body and Blood mix with mine And travel through my body,

Healing all my fears, all my illnesses And fill me with Your peace.

Let Your Precious Body and Blood Mix with mine

And flow throughout my being

Make me into all You would have me be, That I might love like You! Amen.

- Fr. Joseph Amalfitano

Thank You, Jean!

A big thank you to Jean Gilson who started helping out with funeral lunches back at St Boniface. When the churches merged, Jean continued to share her time and talents. Overall, Jean has been serving in the funeral lunch ministry for 25 years. Thank you, Jean, for all of your years of service. We are so grateful!

Dear OLOL Parish,

We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Lori Henricks has accepted the administrative assistant position at OLOL School. Mrs. Henricks is a parishioner and we are excited about what she will bring to the position. When you see Mrs.

Hendricks please thank her for saying yes to OLOL Catholic School and our mission.

Work continues on our first floor renovation. The new ceiling tiles and lights are almost finished being installed.

They make the hallway so much brighter. The hallway and most of the classrooms have been painted. When I look around, I can’t believe that it has only been a few weeks since the kids were in the building.

OLOL Spring MAPS scores were terrific. I looked at our spring MAPS RIT scores in grades 1st-7th and compared our average RIT score for the grade to the national average. In math, reading, and language, OLOL’s average RIT score was higher than the national next grade level RIT score in 3 out of 7 grade levels. For example, OLOL’s 4th grade RIT math score was higher than the national 5th grade RIT score. This occurred in slightly less than half of our grades. This is an outstanding outcome.

Thank you for the part you played in us achieving these impressive scores. I couldn’t be prouder of our students and teachers.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”

We are looking forward to seeing your children in fall for Faith Formation. Registration forms for the Faith Formation Program were mailed out in April. We are looking forward to seeing all students in person in the fall!

Where’s the Grotto? Check it Out!

You can find the grotto tucked back between the entrance of school and the carport on the north side of church. The grotto is a great place to find peace and quiet on a warm summer day, a place to pray and reflect in the beauty of nature.

The grotto is open at any time, so feel free to stop there, morning or night.

We would love to see your grotto pictures when you visit!

Send them to our parish email: parish@lourdesdepere.org and we will share them in our next bulletin article!

www.rosarygarden.net.

Check out the OLOL grounds

The OLOL grounds are looking beautiful this summer, thanks to Buildings & Grounds Committee member, Rick Johnson, his wife, Terry Johnson, and Eagle Scout candidate, Emmett Lawton! Rick worked with Emmett, a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy, and his team of volunteers to plan and execute a landscaping project on the east end of church for his Eagle Scout Award. Emmett also did the fundraising for the majority of the project. In addition, Rick and Terry planted bushes and flowers in our grotto.

We truly appreciate all of their hard work!
