Welcome to LaGrange College!
We have been eagerly awaiting your arrival and are very excited about this academic year. There are new faculty to meet, new buildings to explore, friends to make, and ideas to ponder as a new chapter in your life begins. We encourage you to do the best you can in all you take on. During First Week, we will do our best to introduce you to what you can expect from your experience at LaGrange College as well as what we expect of you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
We’d also like to encourage you to fully participate in this year’s Academic
Symposium. Really listen. Really open yourself up to what these professors have to say. We’re willing to bet you learn something!

9:00-1:00pm Residential Students check in at your assigned Residence Hall Lobby and move in to your room!
11:00-12:00 Students who did not attend a summer orientation or who have not registered for fall classes, report to the Registrar’s Office (2
ndfloor Smith Hall) to be assigned a Cornerstone class and advisor.
12:30-2:00 Math Placement Test for all freshmen who did not take the test during a summer orientation. Science Building’s Jolly Room
12:00-1:00pm Lunch: The Student Government Association invites parents to join their students for lunch in the Pitts Dining Hall for one more good-bye! Students are officially on the meal plan; lunch will be $4.50 for everyone else.
Professors teaching Jan Term travel courses will also be on hand – and on display – to discuss their course and to answer questions.
1:00-2:00 Greek Receptions for new students (freshmen as well as transfers) and parents. A chance to meet reps, both current and alums, of our Greek organizations. SC Assembly Room.
12:00-2:00 Students will have the opportunity to sign up for TUESDAY’s Academic Symposium Sessions on the Patio. Sign-up sheets will also be available in the caf at dinner. Once a session is filled, it is CLOSED. In case of rain, sign-ups in caf.

7:30-8:45 David Hellstrom presents an enlightened – and funny – look at the choices you will face regarding alcohol, drugs, and social behavior. Price Theater.

10:30 (or so) Movie: Immediately following BONK!, join us in The Pit (directly underneath the Assembly Room) for Pursuit of Happyness: Will Smith, serious role, some comedic moments, a movie that will warm your heart – what more do you want?
Until Midnight The Student Center Game Room will be open as well. Grab a friend for a game of pool and ping-pong, for cards and board games. In addition, the Grill will be open for your burger and snacking needs.

First Week Academic Symposium Day 1
These sessions are designed to introduce first-year students to both the LC faculty and to the range of studies available on campus. Students will sign up for a total of 6 sessions (3 on Tuesday, 3 on Thursday, one each hour). These sessions are required; attendance will be taken.

3:00-5:00 Boat Building Opportunity. The National guys are around for boat-building advice.

7:30-9:00 Team Building and Problem Solving. Your beloved TAs will lead Cornerstone groups through a fun series of tasks. Wear your First Week Ts and shoes for activity.
9:15-11:00 Boot Scoot. SGA invites you to the Patio for some line-dancing in the peanut shells! Cowboy hats, lizard-skin boots, and belt buckles as big as your head are more than welcome!
10:00 Movie: 300 -- A graphic novel version of the Battle of Thermopylae.

10:00-10:45 “Friday Morning Live – Sort Of!” A thought provoking and entertaining presentation of a variety of college dilemmas. Look for some familiar faces on stage … Price Theater.
11:00-11:50 Meet with your Cornerstone class to discuss the summer reading, The Kite Runner. You have read it, right??
12:30-2:00 The Y’Gotta Regatta and Lake Property Cookout. Join the LC Navy as it braves the red waters of West Point Lake! Even if you don’t have a boat, come join the hilarity.
NOTE: Lunch will be served ONLY at the Regatta.
Driving Directions to the Lake Property: From the traffic light at the intersection of Vernon and Forrest, head south on Vernon (Hwy 29 S). You’ll stick on this road for 9 miles.
Pass Burger King and Locos Restaurant. You’ll know you’re close when you pass Ribitz, a small yellow store with a dancing green frog painted on the side. Take the Long Cane Park road to the right. Take the second left (about ½ mile) and follow the drive. You’re there!
At this point, students are free for the weekend. We encourage you to hang around campus for your first official College Weekend! We’ve got loads of fun planned. Be careful. Be safe. Have fun.
