COURSE DROPS/ADDS

Students desiring to drop and add courses must do so on Banner Self Service or file drop and add forms with the Registrar’s Office by the established deadlines. A drop in total hours which affects tuition charges will result in a full-refund through September 8, with no refund thereafter.

WITHDRAWAL FROM COLLEGE

If it becomes necessary to withdraw completely from the College during the semester, the student must initiate the withdrawal process at the Student Development Office. A withdrawal form must be completed with all required signatures. A student who does not officially

withdraw with the required approvals receives no refund. Consult the College Catalog for

withdrawal refund policies.

U.S. VOTER REGISTRATION

The Higher Education Act of 1998 requires colleges and universities to make a good faith effort to make voter registration forms available to you. A limited number of voter

registration forms for the State of Illinois are available to students at Wheaton College during business hours at the Office of the Registrar and at fall term registration.

The Federal Election Commission also provides voter registration information at its website at

http://www.eac.gov/voter.

(3)

NOTE: The preferred method of registration is via Banner Self Service. You may initiate web registration at the time posted in your Banner Self Service account or written on your registration statement (see web registration

instructions, below.) Students who choose not to register via the web may register in the Registrar’s Office three hours or more after the time posted on your Banner Self Service account/registration statement.

All degree-seeking graduate and undergraduate students who plan to continue in the fall at Wheaton should initiate advance registration by May 8, 2015. Failure to do so may result in a cancellation of your housing assignment and may require an application for late registration and result in a $75 late registration fee. Students applying for approved off campus study for Fall semester need to complete the GOGLOBAL process and submit their Spring 2016 registration statement to the Registrar’s office by May 8, 2015.

Please complete the following:

1. Make an appointment with your major adviser for advising. Undeclared Freshmen should refer to instructions from the Director of Freshmen Advising.

to an electronic wait list, you must select the drop down box under registration errors, select the action of Wait List, and press submit. Most instructors who have waiting lists have automatic notifications turned on. This will result in your being sent an email to your my.wheaton email account if an opening occurs and you are next on the waiting list. If you do not take action by the expiration time indicated in the email (usually 24 to 72 hours), the seat will be offered to the next student on the waiting list and you will be dropped from the waiting list. Consequently, it is very important for you to check your email regularly (and preferably, daily) during the end of the semester and during the summer.

ALL AUDITS are added using an Audit form during the first two weeks of the course.

CATALOG REQUIREMENTS: Students normally meet graduation requirements under the Wheaton College Catalog for the year of first enrollment, but may meet all requirements under any catalog during enrollment at Wheaton. See http:/www.wheaton.edu/catalog for the current Wheaton catalog.

Student Right-to-Know information reporting the most recent graduation rate information is available at http://www.wheaton.edu/Registrar/catalog/ug_admissions.htm#Graduation_Information

STUDENT LOAD: Half-semester courses indicated as Quad “A” are taught the first 8 weeks; those with Quad “B,” the last 8 weeks. If no notation, the course continues the entire semester. All regular students are expected to register for the full semester with a minimum of 12 credit hours. A normal load is 4 full semester courses (or 3 full semester courses and one half-semester course in each half of the semester). No more than 5 half-semester courses (3 in one half and 2 in the other half) will be permitted in an 18-hour schedule. Students wishing to take over 18 hours must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, the Registrar’s permission and file an overload request.

LEVEL OF CREDIT: Graduate students may enroll in courses approved toward their M.A. and numbered 300 or 400. Juniors and Seniors may enroll in graduate courses for undergraduate credit by adding “U”

after the course number and by having the course instructor initial your Registration Statement.

Graduate courses may be taken by Seniors for Graduate credit only if accepted into the Accelerated M.A. program. Freshmen may not enroll in 300 level courses unless special written permission on the Registration Statement is given by the department chair for that course or unless the student qualifies by advanced placement in science, mathematics, or foreign language. Freshmen may not enroll in 400 level courses.

AHS 320: Preventing Neurobiological Disease. The course will focus on evaluating strategies to prevent neurobiological disease. The course will begin with an overview of the central nervous system and how it regulates behavior. We’ll then look at the etiology of several brain disorders. Finally, and for most of the course, we’ll evaluate the effects of behavioral strategies and programs (e.g., exercise, nutrition, and cognitive-skills training) that are designed to enhance brain health. During lab, we’ll learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret multiple measures of brain health including high density electroenchalography data. (4 cr.)

ART 290: Collagraph Printmaking. First developed as an independent printmaking medium in the 1950’s, Collagraph Printmaking explores the myriad of possibilities of a collage-like approach to printmaking. Discover how to make low-tech and highly inventive prints from found and hand-made printing surfaces. Explore the collagraph as intaglio, relief, and as a photo printing medium. (2) BIOL 310: Environmental Stewardship: The Bible and Biology. This course will lay the biblical and biological foundations for creation stewardship. Students will learn basic ecology and discover how humans can impact (positively and negatively) their environment. They will be asked to consider the human need for resources and how extraction of resources can impact ecosystems and ultimately human health. Agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, energy needs, and mineral extraction will receive special attention. Students will also examine the biblical perspective of stewardship of land and creature, and the implications of the new covenant for our response to environmental degradation. The end goal of this class is that students will be scientifically and theologically informed as regards their relationship as Christians to God’s creation and its residents. (4 cr.)

BITH 310: Environmental Stewardship: The Bible and Biology. See BIOL 310.

ENGW 320: Writing for Social Change. This course equips students to engage in and shape their communities through writing. In the first section of the course, students explore theories of the public sphere, analyze the discourse of contemporary social movements, and reflect on the risks and rewards of community-based writing projects. The remaining units of the course ask students to venture beyond the classroom’s walls: students learn from writers who facilitate and participate in prison writing programs, write for their churches and/or parachurch organizations, collaborate on a class grant-writing initiative, and host an exhibition of local writing projects for the Wheaton College community. Pre-requisite: ENGW 103 or 104. (4 cr.)

PHIL 270: Virtues & Vices. Virtues & Vices has previously been taught as a 400-level course. PHIL 270 offers a 200-level version of the course, appropriate to students who have only had PHIL 101 (although open to all students). This course would introduce the notion of virtues and vices, distinctions traditionally made among the virtues and vices, an account of distinctively Christian virtues, practices by which one habituates virtues and corrects vices, and accounts of our reliance on grace for the theological virtues. (2 cr.) PHIL 330: Science & Christian Faith. (A longer version of this course has been taught as a 4-hour PHIL 331, Science and Christian Belief.) This course will investigate the nature of scientific reasoning and various critiques of scientific presumptions to knowledge.

Of special focus will be questions of the relationship of various claims of Christian faith to various scientific claims. (2 cr.) PSYC 480: Current Issues- School Psychology. A survey of current psychological issues in schools including the exploration of individual, family, and societal factors contributing to students’ functioning. Additional emphasis placed on interventions provided in the school setting. Topics such as school violence, learning disabilities, gender issues, counseling in schools, and academic

intervention will be covered. (2 cr.)
