Job Description

Job Title Technician (Audio Visual / Digital Video)

Salary Scale Scale 4

Job Purpose

Responsible for the supervision, maintenance and booking of Audio Visual (AV), Sound Reinforcement (SR) and Digital Video (DV) equipment. To assist the Technical Manager in supporting curriculum delivery for staff and students across the Institute along with providing a customer facing role for bookings and events.

Major Tasks

1. Ensure adequate arrangements exist for the storage, distribution and maintenance of AV, DV and SR equipment;

2. Provide technical support for staff and students in achieving their learning goals 3. Support the continued development of information systems within Technical

Services for the benefit of staff and students

4. Provides technical support for major LIPA events (Open days / Masterclasses / Graduation etc.);

5. Assists with budget preparations and the ordering of equipment; 6. Undertakes duties common to all technical staff of the Institute.

Job Activities

Major Task 1

Ensures adequate arrangements exist for the storage, distribution and maintenance of AV, DV and SR equipment

Ensures equipment and materials are stored in a safe, secure and tidy manner; Ensures equipment and materials are itemised and recorded in accordance with Institute stock control procedures;

Maintains a schedule of planned activities to ensure AV/DV/SR equipment is available to meet the demands of the curriculum, and operate a booking / reservation system where required for teaching, productions and other events across the Institute

Co-ordinate and allocate AV/DV services and equipment to teaching areas in accordance with staff requests;

Facilitates equipment issues and returns in accordance with Institute policy and financial regulations;

Undertakes first line maintenance, repair and fault finding of AV/DV equipment; Ensures AV and DV equipment and installations are serviced and maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, and therefore available for use on a daily basis.

Major Task 2

Provide technical support for staff and students in achieving their learning goals

Ad-hoc demonstrations of AV/DV equipment and software to students, working in conjunction with teaching staff delivering video production modules;

Provides support for AV/DV production including camera, lighting and sound equipment and a variety of non-linear post production facilities;

Provides general technical support, advice and assistance for students and staff; Prepares technical facilities for taught sessions as required.

Major Task 3

Support the continued development of information systems within Technical Services for the benefit of staff and students

Ensure the LIPA Technical Services SharePoint site is kept up to date and relevant, working with other members of the team to upload and maintain content.

Maintain and populate the Technical services twitter account with information provided by the Technical Services Team with relevant information, for example unscheduled maintenance, room closures, so on.

Major Task 4

Provides technical support for major LIPA events. (Open days / Masterclasses / Graduation etc.);

Work with colleagues across the Institute to help define technical requirements for events;

Configure, install and operate technical systems including sound, AV and presentation systems

Work with colleagues across the Institute to prepare supporting audio visual materials for events and other purposes

Major Task 5

Assists with budget preparations and the ordering of equipment; Assists with orders for materials and equipment as directed;

Common Technician Duties

Works flexibly, contributing to projects of a general nature and providing cover and support for other technical staff;

Ensures appropriate financial/stock records are maintained and updated in accordance with the Institute’s financial regulations;

Participates in staff appraisals and training programmes as required;

Ensures our Health and Safety policy is implemented within areas of responsibility; Ensures work areas are at all times kept in a clean and tidy manner;

Maintains adequate levels of security for property.

Carries out duties at all times with due regard to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and other policies as agreed and revised from time to time.

Notes:

This job description will be reviewed annually as part of the appraisal process and may be varied in the light of our changing business needs. The job description sets out the main duties of the post at the date it was drafted. Such duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. Such variations occur occasionally and cannot justify any reconsideration of the grading of the post. Changes will be made in consultation with the individual. If however after consultation, the person concerned is not in agreement with the proposed change, then they would be able to use the grievance procedure.

Location:

The job is initially located on our main site. However, it may be that from time to time the post holder will be required to work on different duties, or in any other jobs, within his / her competence, such jobs being in his / her present or any other location as may be deemed appropriate. In all cases regard will be paid to the qualifications, experience, current duties and responsibilities and personal circumstances of the post holder.

Hours:

37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday although some weekend and evening work will be occasionally required.

Education and Qualifications: A degree or equivalent qualification in a

Experience:

Experience in booking equipment and

Experience in the operation of digital

video capture and editing systems E Application Form Experience of configuring and deploying

events environment, especially with regard to multimedia presentations.
