Private Planet
• Private Planet® is the result of the
Technology Strategy Board-funded project PEERSONA®
• Developed byPeerouette Ltd. in • Developed byPeerouette Ltd. in
collaboration with Imperial College, British Telecom,TelecityGroup, O2, Dynamical
Systems Research, Flight1 Softwareand Transport for London.
Cloud Computing
• Each user owns a Personal Server (the user’s Planet)
• The user can connect to the Personal Server by using any kind of device: desktops, laptops,

A different approach to
Cloud Computing
• Private Planet is a software architecture (running on the Personal Server and on the user’s devices) that provides 3 main benefits:
1. Storage functionality - data accessible from any device
2. Processing functionality - services working 24/7 for the user
3. Multiplexing functionality - allows

Who “owns” the Personal Server?
• A Personal Server can be potentially deployedon any (Linux) server, being it a low-end home server or a high performance grid.
• Personal Servers can be managed by trusted

Smart sensor data collection,
analysis and communication
1. Smart sensors record/detect ambient or patient data (in-home data collection hub or mobile device)
2. Services running on the mobile device (or home 2. Services running on the mobile device (or home hub) filter, analyse and augment the sensory data with presence and additional derived information. They identify specific causes for concern and anomalies in behavior, to alert or inform users
analysis and communication
3. Pre-analysed data is relayed over wireless or wired networks to a secure personal server with patient/customer information
4. Such data is analysed using services
Private Planet® – A User-focused
Cloud Computing architecture Davide Guidi, JankoMrsic-Flogel, John Darlington
4. Such data is analysed using services operating on data securely on a personal server (data is not leaving the patient server) 5. Data can be securely communicated from
personal server to others in a digital community on mobile, pc or set top box

Security aspects
• The Planet acts as an individual’s in-the-cloud personal system that can store sensory data, run services on behalf of the user and communicate with others.
• Communication is secure and any data objects
• Communication is secure and any data objects belonging to the user are subject to policies on sharing, transfer and visibility of such data.
• The Planet connect directly to mobile or home hub systems enabling secure transfer of sensory date from both mobile and in-home sensors.
Private Planet SDK
• Private Planet SDK will enable development of both Planet-services and Device-services
• Will be released around Feb 2011
