GENERAL

The ANR-275 Hone has been designed to hone bores

from 2.50 to 21.00 in. (64 - 533 mm) diameter.

NOTE:

For light work in bores larger than 10 in.

(254 mm) in diameter.

INSTALLATION

The Remote-Feed Hones are designed for use in a

rigid installation, such as a drill press or a honing

rig, where part to be honed and power source are

rigidly fixed

(see Figure 1)

. The ANR-275 is

equipped with two Universal Joints which allow

the honing head to align itself with the workpiece.

POWER SOURCE

Use heavy duty electric drill in a honing rig, or drill

press

(see Figure 1)

. To establish optimum rpm for

your application, divide 800 by the hole diameter in

inches.

Example: 800 + 4" = 200 (rpm); or divide 20,000

by the hole diameter in Millimeters.

Example: 20,000 + 100mm = 200 (rpm).

HONING OIL

Use a continuous and ample flow of Sunnen

Industrial Honing Oil to ensure accurate, fast honing

and freedom from galling or scratches. Do not

dilute the oil. Do not use lubricating oil, cutting oil,

or water soluble oil; consistent results cannot be

expected unless the full-strength recommended oil

is used.

ASSEMBLY OF STONES AND GUIDES

1. Pull back Release Ring and tilt hone body as

shown

(see Figure 2)

.

2. Pull the ANR-210 Pinion all the way out.

3. Place the racks of the stone and guide assemblies

in holes marked "X" as shown.

4. Put ANR-2l0 Pinion back in place.

5. Pull back Release Ring, line up hone body, and

allow Release Ring to return to engaged position.

CAUTION

Do not mix used stones and guides from different

sets - the guides will be either too tight or too loose,

causing chatter, poor cutting, or other undesirable

results.

TO HONE HOLE

To hone workpiece, proceed as follows

(see Figure

3)

:

1. Place hone in work.

2. Expand stones by rotating handwheel in a

counterclockwise direction (opposite to direction of

hone rotation). When hone contacts wall of work,

back handwheel off one-half turn clockwise.

CAUTION

Hone must rotate in a clockwise direction (as viewed

from power source end).

3. Start hone rotating in work in a clockwise

direction and apply very light stopping pressure to

handwheel as hone is stroked through length of bore.

4. Localize honing in any tight spots and gradually

lengthen stroke as bore becomes straighter.

5. As bore diameter gets larger and stones become

loose, a light braking on the handwheel will keep

the stones cutting.

STROKING

Stroke the hone fast enough to produce a crosshatch

pattern in the hole. At the end of each stroke the

stones should extend approximately one inch (25mm)

out of the cylinder.

Standard Sunnen Tooling and Procedures will satisfy all ordinary honing requirements. If problems are encountered, they can usually be solved by following procedure suggested below.
