ABOUT USE OF KWANSEI GAKUIN NETWORK

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

In order to connect your own devices to the campus network, the following environment and information are required.

Operating System Requirements:

Campus Network: Usage / OIMC, Kwansei Gakuin University

Network Connection Requirements:

Wireless LAN adaptor system that is compatible with one of IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and supports 802.1x authentication and WPA2-AES encryption scheme.

Note: If your device is not built in wireless connectivity, then you will need a wireless adaptor separately.

A password and User ID provided by the University Organization for Information

Management and Communication.

ABOUT CONNECTING TO CAMPUS NETWORK

You can use the Internet after configuring campus network (KGU-WLAN). Note: Application for your device is not necessary from September 2019.

BEFORE CONFIGURING YOUR DEVICE

When you configure your device for use on the campus network, it may change your previous configuration. If it does, you may have trouble when you use your previous network.

Please, therefore, take accurate notes of your non-school system settings BEFORE changing the settings so that you can re-create your network without any problems. We assume no responsibility whatever for any troubles resulting from the use of this manual, such as having problems connecting to your previous network.

2 DEVICE SECURITY AND VIRUS PREVENTION

Please be sure to take at least the following steps in doing your part to maintain campus network security.

Note: Your devices may be forcibly cut off from the campus network when it is obvious that your devices are infected with a virus.

• Install appropriate anti-virus software on your device.

• Download the latest virus definition files and keep anti-virus software up to date. * Do not use an anti-virus software which has expired.

• Update the software on a regular basis. • Regular Windows Updates are also essential.

ABOUT APPROPRIATE USE OF THE CAMPUS NETWORK

This university uses an academic information network "SINET" as a line to connect the university to the internet.

SINET is an information communication network that is established and administered as an academic information infrastructure of the universities or institutions throughout Japan. There is a condition, “Not to use the internet except for research, education or administrative tasks for supporting them ", for the use of SINET.

Please refrain from using the internet except for education or research purposes when using the campus network.

In addition, comply with the contents of "System Usage Pledge Form".

Besides, please turn off your Wi-Fi for unnecessary devices during the class so that it would not interfere with online classes. Thank you for your cooperation.

2. SETTINGS FOR CAMPUS NETWORK

2.1 CONNECTION TO THE WIRELSS LAN NETWORK “SSID=KGU-WLAN”

*Login to your device with an administrator account and configure the following settings. Make sure a wireless LAN switch is ON.

Click the search box displayed at the bottom left in the task bar and enter Control

Panel.

Click on the Control Panel displayed at the top of the search box.

The Control Panel will appear. Click on Network and Internet.

Choose a connection option window will appear.

Select Manually connect to a wireless network.

Click the Next button.

A window labeled Enter information for the wireless network you want to add will appear.

•In the box labeled Network name:, type in “KGU-WLAN”.

•From the drop down list next to Security type:, select WPA-2 Enterprise.

•Check Start this connection automatically.

•Check Connect even if the network is not broadcasting. Click the Next button after input for every item is completed.

If you completed all the previous steps correctly, the following message will appear: Successfully added KGU-WLAN.

Click Change connection settings.

The KGU-WLAN Wireless Network Properties dialog box will appear. Select the Security tab.

The Protected EAP Properties window will appear.

Uncheck Verify the server’s identity by validating the certificate.

Click the Configure...button.

The EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties dialog box will appear.

Make sure the checkbox for Automatically use my Windows log-on name and password (and domain if any) is unchecked.

Click the OK button.

Close the Protected EAP Properties dialog box by clicking the OK button.

In the KGU-WLAN Wireless Network Properties dialog box,

click the Advanced settings.

In the Advanced settings dialog box, check Specify authentication mode: and select User authentication.

Close the dialog box by clicking the OK button.

Close any remaining open window by clicking either the OK or the Close button on each window.

Your system may not be correctly configured until the device is rebooted. Restart your device to initiate the new settings.

Click the Network icon on the right side of the taskbar.

Select KGU-WLAN from the network list and click Connect.

The Windows Security dialog box will appear. Type below information. User name: [kwansei\KWANSEI User ID]

Password: [KWANSEI password] Note:

Use the same User ID and password that you use to log in to the Information System Web service.

Click the OK button.

When "Network" icon in the task tray at the bottom right of the screen is turned to be white, the connection to the KGU-WLAN has been completed.

When you can access and see external websites such as Yahoo!, Google, and so on, you have configured everything properly.

[Supplement]

Although the settings are completed and the external sites are displayed, there is a case that the "Network" icon is indicated as “No Connection”, and the connection status is "No Internet".

…Before Windows 10(1809)

You can use the internet even in this state as long as you can see external sites.

Note: Normally, the icon indicated for “No

Internet” changes “Connected” when time passes. If it doesn't change, please restart your PC.

10 2.2 ENDING A SESSION

The only thing you have to do to sign off from the network is to turn off your device. Once you have completed your setup, your device will stay configured for continuing use with the school network.

Note: If your device is not connected to the network in the next use, disable your wireless LAN adapter temporarily. Then enable the adapter. An authentication dialog will appear again. Click this and enter your KWANSEI user name and password.

3. OTHER: VARIOUS SETTEING

3.1 SETTING FOR NETWORK DRIVES

The university provides “shared folders (Y,X Drive)” for all users, and “temporary folders (Z Drive)” dedicated to each user.

Note: Users can access shared folders and temporary folders only on-campus. For off-campus access, log on to Information System Web Service

Then click ”Learning Material Folder” or “Drive Z” which you wish to open.

(Please do not configure in this way on campus)

The university provides another online data storage, Drive Z, for users to store their personal documents temporarily.

*Drive Z is referred to as “My Documents” on all classroom computers operated by the university.

*Drive Z (My Document) is given to each user for his/her private use.

Therefore, another user will not be able to access your Drive Z (My Document)

*Drive Z is data storage for temporary data. Save your personal data on OneDrive(1T) that can save files online.

SHARED ONLINE DATA STORAGE (DRIVES Y AND X)

The university provides data storage, such as Drive Y and X where all users can access on-campus.

Drive Y…Teaching Materials

Any user can read data and execute programs in Drive Y. Only teachers can save and delete the data in the folder. Drive X…Free use

Any user can read data, execute programs, save and delete data in the drive. The System Administrator reserves the right to delete documents as necessary, throughout the year, especially at the end of both the spring and fall semesters.

SETTINGS FOR DNS SUFFIXES(TEMPORARY AND SHARED)

Click the search box displayed at left bottom in the task bar and enter Control Panel.

The Control Panel will appear.

Click on View network status and tasks under Network and Internet.

The Network and Sharing Center will appear.

Click on Change adapter settings at the left side column.

The Network Connections window will appear.

Right click on Wi-Fi and select Properties from the list.

The Wi-Fi Properties dialog box will appear.

In the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Then click the Properties button.

In the General tab,

The Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box will appear.

Click the DNS tab.

Select Append these DNS suffixes (in order):

The TCP/IP Domain Suffix dialog box will appear.

In the dialog, type “kwansei.ac.jp”. Click the Add button.

The Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box will appear again.

Click the Add button.

In the TCP/IP Domain Suffix dialog, type “nuc.kwansei.ac.jp”.

Click the Add button. Note:

If you skip these steps (of adding the DNS suffixes), you might have a trouble in mapping network drives.

You will see the following two DNS suffixes displayed beneath the heading Append these DNS suffixes (in order):

• kwansei.ac.jp • nuc.kwansei.ac.jp

In the box labeled DNS suffix for this connection: type “kwansei.ac.jp”. Uncheck Register this connection’s addresses in DNS.

Click the OK button.

Click the OK button to close the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

Properties dialog.

Click either the OK or the Close button to close the Wi-Fi Properties dialog.

SETTING UP TEMPORARY DATA STORAGE (DRIVE Z) Note: Set up the DNS Suffix first

Click the Start button then select File Explore.

Or click File Explorer in the task bar.

Right click on This PC in the left pane. Select Map network drive… from the context menu.

Map your Network Drive Z as follows: Drive:Select Z

Folder:Type in whichever is true of you For Students:

[\\kgs¥z\Student\Kwansei User ID] For Teacher:

[\\kgs¥z\Teacher\Kwansei User ID] For Staff:

[\\kgs¥z\Staff\Kwansei User ID] (For instance, if you’re a student and your User ID is abc12345 type in \\kgs¥z\Student\abc12345.)

Make sure the checkbox for Reconnect at sign-in is checked.

The Windows Security dialog box will appear.

Type the following information. User name: [kwansei\KWANSEI User ID]

Password: [KWANSEI password] Check the box next to Remember my credentials.

Click the OK button.

SETTING UP FOR SHARED ONLINE DATA STORAGE (DRIVES Y AND X) Note: Set up the DNS Suffix first

Click the Start button then select File Explore.

Or click File Explorer in the task bar.

Right click on This PC in the left pane. Select Map network drive… from the context menu.

Choose a drive letter from the dropdown list located next to the “Drive:”.

In the Folder: box, type the path of the folder to map.

Make sure the checkbox Reconnect at sign-in is checked.

Click the Finish button.

・Mapping Drive Y

Drive:[Y]、Folder:[\\kgs\y]

・Mapping Drive X

Drive:[X]、Folder:[\\kgs\x]

The Windows Security dialog box will appear.

Type the following information. User name: [kwansei\KWANSEI User ID]

Password: [KWANSEI password] Check the box next to Remember my credentials.

Click the OK button.

3.2 PRINTER SETTINGS

You can print from your own device which is connected to the campus network to a printer installed in the classroom. (Limited classrooms only)

Note: Set up the DNS Suffix first

4.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you have trouble getting a wireless network connection, you should check the following:

Is the wireless switch turned on? Make sure it is turned on.

Is the wireless adapter enabled?

1. Right click on the Network icon, on the right side of the taskbar. Then click Open Network and Sharing Center.

2. In the left pane of the Network and Sharing Center window, select Change adapter settings.

3. If Wireless Network Connection is grayed out and shown as Disabled, right click on the icon and select Enable this network device from the list.

Is the combination of user ID and password correct?

If a Windows Security dialog shows up after entering your user ID and password, there is a possibility that you may enter incorrect information and authentication fails. Please enter your information again.

Is the wireless network properly connected to KGU-WLAN?

1.If the Network icon is shown as below, you are not connected to the Local campus network.

Click the Network icon, select KGU-WLAN and click the Connect button. Make sure Connect automatically is checked.

※If KGU-WLAN is not displayed, it means that you are not in the range of a Wi-Fi base station.

2.An authentication dialog will show up.

20 • Have you tried rebooting your device?

The configuration may not reflect the changes yet.

Restart your device so that the change in configuration takes effect. • Please check the network settings.

Click the search box displayed at left bottom in the task bar and enter Control Panel.

The Control Panel will appear.

Click on View network status and tasks under Network and Internet.

The Network and Sharing Center will appear.

Click on Change adapter settings at the left side column.

The Network Connections window will appear.

Right click on Wi-Fi and select Properties from the list.

The Wi-Fi Properties dialog box will appear.

In the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box will appear.

If the following two radio buttons are already selected, click “OK”.

・Obtain an IP address automatically ・Obtain DNS server address

automatically

Otherwise go to next step.

If selected is Use the following IP address and/or Use the following DNS server addresses and some numbers are typed as shown in the left, write them down. You may need the information in your other network environment.

After making a record of all your present configurations, select Obtain an IP address automatically. Also select Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Alternate Configuration tab will be shown. Select the tab.

Select the User configured and re-enter your personal settings.

(These are the settings for which you made a memo of these settings prior to

beginning the configuration process.) Uncheck Validate settings, if

changed, upon exit.

Note: When you have your original settings stored in the Alternate

Configuration tab, the set-ups you need for both on- and off-campus operation will be maintained.

Won’t your device connect to the Internet suddenly?

Disable your wireless LAN adapter temporarily then enable the adapter. 1. Right click on the Network icon, on the right side of the taskbar.

Then click Open Network and Sharing Center.

2. In the left pane of the Network and Sharing Center window, select Change adapter settings.

3. Disable the Wi-Fi adapter. 4. Re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter.

In the case that network connection is unstable Refer to the page below and configure the settings.
