Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We hope the following information will help you prepare for Pema Chodron’s teaching program at Pema Osel Do Ngak Choling. If you have any questions or need more clarification, please feel free to contact us at

pemaoselsecretary@mangalashribhuti.org.

What is the retreat format and schedule?

Our weekend retreat is open to everyone. The schedule will include teachings and question-and-answer periods led by Pema Chodron. At Pema’s request, Khenchung Joey

Waxman, a senior student of Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, and head of study and practice at Pema Osel, will offer

meditation instruction and program assistance. Vanessa Waxman, Event Coordinator for Pema Osel, will lead brief periods of gentle yoga.

Pema Chodron has asked that all participants engage fully in the retreat by attending all teaching sessions as well as

May in Vermont is called “mud season.” Due to potentially poor driving conditions and limited parking, we will bus participants 3 miles to Pema Osel from the Westshire Elementary School. Parking and check-in will be at the elementary school, and we request that everyone arrive there between 7:45-8:15 am on Saturday and Sunday. From there, participants will board buses to Pema Osel. It is important that all participants arrive at Westshire

Elementary at the times above so they do not miss the bus. How do I get there?

What if I need to leave suddenly?

Please make all necessary arrangements and plan to stay the whole day. Due to transportation logistics, only in the case of an emergency will anyone be able to leave during the teachings.

Can I bring my cell phone or laptop?

Yes, but there is no cell reception within a 10-mile radius of Pema Osel, and we do not offer internet access. A landline is available for emergencies only.
