The USCJ Kehilla

COST SAVING

Program

The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism is pleased to offer our member congregations a package of valuable new services.

USCJ is partnering with NormAndy Financial Services, a national cost savings consulting firm, to help our member kehillot realize significant savings. There are a number of highly advantageous features of this partnership:

• The partnership will benefit kehillot, regardless of their size. • Participation is completely voluntary and requires minimal effort

on the part of congregational staff.

• There is no cost or risk to your congregation.

No synagogue will make any direct payments to NormAndy. NormAndy gets paid by the vendors it works with, not by its clients. • NormAndy is able to achieve favorable prices from vendors because

of the combined purchasing power of their clients.

Bottom line, your congregation can realize considerable savings – money that can be put to far better use for your programs and operations.

A committee comprised of United Synagogue staff and lay leaders,

synagogue presidents, and executive directors have put much careful effort into negotiating and test marketing this unique benefit for our member congregations. Projected savings in the test group were in the range of 15 to 20% of the analyzed costs. This translates into savings of $15,000 to $60,000 / year. The extent of the savings is dependent on congregations’ existing vendor prices and the extent of their utilization of NormAndy’s services. It should also be noted that the savings did not entail cutting staff.

Here is what one Executive Director on the committee had to say:

“This offers our synagogues – which are so strapped for time – one stop shopping, with price breaks from more than a dozen vendors covering most non-payroll expenses.”

Here are examples of some of the

services that will be available:

• More Favorable Vendor Pricing

NormAndy can review your congregation’s payroll administration, merchant processing fees, perform a waste & recycling audit, and provide other services to see if you can benefit from the reduced fees they have negotiated with vendors on behalf of their portfolio of clients.

• Group Purchasing

There is power in numbers. As a result of the group purchasing arrangement that this partnership will afford all USCJ member synagogues, your kehilla will be able to purchase products and services at significant savings. These include office and cleaning supplies, and printing services, to name just a few.

• Utility Audits

NormAndy and its team of consultants can analyze your electricity, natural gas, and water & sewer bills to not only reduce your current and future expenses, but also to find out if you were overcharged in the past, and if so, recover the excess amount paid.

• Individualized Packaging of Services

Each USCJ member congregation will be free to assess which cost reductions will yield the greatest savings for them. They can then create an individually tailored package that includes any or all of the services available through the USCJ-NormAndy partnership.

This program is open to all USCJ member congregations in good standing. To learn about how the USCJ-NormAndy Financial Services Partnership can benefit your kehilla, contact Andy Shuman at 1-800-606-6762 x 102 or andy@normandyfs.com. You need only fill out a short survey form which will be provided to you. There is no cost or commitment involved.

Q. Why is USCJ entering into this program with NormAndy Financial Services? How did this program come about?

A. United Synagogue understands that our affiliated kehillot are concerned about the increasing costs and complications of operating their synagogues. USCJ is committed to expanding the services and value we offer kehillot in meeting these and other challenges. Several months ago, USCJ convened a committee comprised of USCJ staff and lay leaders, synagogue presidents and executive directors to research cost savings companies. We conducted a beta test with several of our synagogues to determine which company could provide the best value for them. It was clear that NormAndy Financial Services offered the most comprehensive range of cost-savings services and products, and higher estimated savings for the synagogues – no matter what their size – along with the convenience of one stop shopping.

Q. Who at my synagogue needs to be involved?

A. Your Executive Director, office administrator, or any lay leader who is familiar with your kehilla’s expenses can be involved. They will be asked to fill out a brief synagogue survey provided by NormAndy Financial Services.

Q. How do I get started if I want to participate?

A. Call or email Andy Shuman: 1-800-606-6762 x 102 / andy@normandyfs.com

Q. How much will this require from my synagogue? How complicated will it be for us to participate? How much time will it take up? Are there any indirect or transaction costs?

A. The process is very simple and doesn’t take much time. After you fill out a brief survey, NormAndy will let you know how they can be of help and what documents they need to get started. Should you decide you want to move forward, you will sign vendor agreements for the specific services you want. There are no fees or other transaction costs.

(7)

Q. If my synagogue doesn’t have someone with administrative expertise, will we get the help we need? For example, if we have difficulty answering the questions on the “USCJ Synagogue Survey” form, will NormAndy help us?

A. Most definitely. Just call Andy and he will assist you.

Q. Which synagogues can participate?

A. All USCJ member kehillot in good standing are eligible to participate. At present, all of the services are available to kehillot in the US, and some of the services can also be accessed by kehillot in Canada. NormAndy and USCJ are exploring how to expand the number of quality services available to Canadian congregations.

Q. Can I explore what my savings might be without making a commitment? A. The simple answer is, yes. For some services – like merchant processing,

telecom, payroll, and energy management system – NormAndy can run real numbers in advance. For other services, NormAndy will be able to provide estimates. In either case, every kehilla will be given all available information without having to make any commitment to use any of the services.

Q. Do I have to sign up for the entire program of services? Is there a commitment for a minimum number of services in order to participate?

A. Absolutely not. NormAndy can help you with as many or as few of their services as you would like them to. In addition, you do not have to make a commitment for all the services you are interested in at one time. Should you choose to do so, you can add services gradually as fits your needs and schedule.

Q. Once I sign up for the cost-savings program, how long do I have to stay with it?

A. This will depend on the specific services that each kehilla decides to use. However, this information will be available prior to your kehilla making any commitment. A full list of services and details is available upon request.
