Here’s an email I received from Evan Lehman: Subject: Don Caplinger's obituary

Hi John,

You may already know of Cappy's passing on 3/8. He had an episode of congestive heart failure the weekend before the national election in November and was admitted to the hospital. From there, he went to "rehab". The physician said his heart was essentially "shot" and he received hospice care in a nursing home. Although he lived a full, well-lived life, his end was not the way he planned. For years, he stated his age to be 39. In recent times, he said he wanted to live to be 39 twice. He died short of that by a little over 3 months, as his 78th birthday would have been late June. Cappy and I were good friends, starting from pledgeship. He and I shared an apartment in the Meadows area in 1959-60. Later, in 1964, he was an usher at my wedding. He was never one to let anyone "in" to his private thoughts. I saw him almost weekly in the nursing home, until, in February or so, he decided he didn't want any visitors. So I honored that request. He was a good friend, and I shall miss him. Some of our fraternity brothers and I attended his service yesterday.

Warm regards, Evan

Wabash College was rated “Best Value College” and one of the “Best in Midwest” by The Princeton Review for 2013...Dr. Gregory D. Hess will become the 16th President of Wabash College on July 1, 2013...Wabash has a $323 million endowment with a 12.1% return for calendar year 2013.

College recruiting has changed in the past 10 years. The pool of students ready for college is smaller. In Indiana, state universities give top students a full scholarship and others partial scholarships. Large universities are building resort type student

apartments. The recruiting environment is very competitive. Help Wabash by referring student names to Admissions and encourage students to consider Wabash. To refer a student online go to http://www.wabash.edu/alumni/student/refer or Contact Chip Timmons, Associate Director of Admissions by phone at 765.361.6054, or email

timmonsc@wabash.edu.

The 2012-2013 academic year is approaching the end with Commencement May 12, followed by Bash Reunion Week-end May 31-June 2.

Wabash needs your financial support to help attract good students and provide young men with the academic basics to produce careers and life styles for their future. We had such an

opportunity and others deserve a similar chance. Contributions of all sizes are appreciated. Your gift is an investment in Wabash men and the transformational experience they encounter as undergraduates. The 2012-2013 fiscal year ends June 30, 2013.
