Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

$900 (includes tuition, book & clinical hours) Instructors: Sherry Peters and Jamie Marley

The Certified Nurse Aide program is a 10 or 13 week course, which includes 64 hours of class work and 16 hours of clinical work at a medical care facility. Students learn basic health care procedures including pulse rates, taking temperatures, respiration, blood pressure, and patient care. This program will prepare students to take the State test.

American Heart CPR &

First Aid

Instructor: Pat Beauchamp $60, 2 days for 3 hours each Evening classes are scheduled based on enrollment

This CPR class is an American Heart Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers & Heartsaver First Aid training, including AED training. This class will cover adult, infant, and child CPR/AED, and first aid. Learn to identify when CPR is necessary, how to administer it, the CAB's of emergency care, and practice on the CPR mannequin.

BLS training is also available –ask for details.

Medical Billing

Instructor: Deb Sherman $225 + books Tuesdays, January 13 - March 18 5:30 - 9:30 pm; (10 weeks)

Understanding Health Insurance and the guide to billing and reimbursement is all covered in this 10 week course. The objectives are to introduce infor-mation about major insurance programs, provide basic knowledge of national diagnosis and procedure coding systems, and simplify the process of complet-ing claims. Students should have had or be takcomplet-ing a codcomplet-ing class or had prior coding experience prior to taking this class.

ICD-10 Medical Coding

Instructor: Deb Sherman

$225 + books Mondays, January 12 - March 17 5:30 - 9:30 pm; (10 weeks)

ICD-10 is expected to be implemented soon. Learn how to code with the latest methods. Deb has taken the American Health Information Man-agement Train- the-Trainer and became a Certified ICD-10 trainer. This class will teach ICD-10 Diag-nosis coding used in both hospital and physician offices.

National Certification is available for students completing the Billing and Coding courses.

Medical Terminology

Instructor: Deb Sherman $225 + books Thursdays

5:30 - 9:30 pm; (10 weeks) January 15 - March 19

This class is designed to teach students easy ways to apply prefixes, learn how to correctly pronounce medical terms, and remember roots and suffixes. Students will learn how the parts of the terms combine to form medical terms. This is a great beginner class for medical students.

Coding and Billing Online Internship

Instructor: Deb Sherman

$345 (includes text book & program) Classes starting in January and February This online internship offers students an opportunity to put into practice the skills they have learned in their coding and billing classes. This is a self-paced program where students can gain experience with coding and billing in an office simulation. This will be a great way to show prospective employers that students have had experience. Call for complete details on the program.

Pharmacy Technician Program

$1,199 (includes books) Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00 - 9:30 pm Instructor: TBA March 24 - May 12 50 hours + 60 Clinical hours.

This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical termi-nology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments,

pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and de-fining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on

labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the

handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, in-ventory control and billing and reimbursement.

Clinical Medical Assistant Program

$2,599 (includes books) Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday 6:00 - 9:30 pm Instructor: TBA March 3 - June 2 140 hours + 160 Clinical hours

This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and admin-istration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a pro-fessional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of class-room lecture and hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough back-ground check, drug screening and meet other requirements.

Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthca-reer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

Dental Assistant Program

$1,199 (includes books) Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00 - 9:30 pm Instructor: TBA March 16 - May 11 60 hours

Phlebotomy Technician Program

$1,799 (includes books) Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00 - 9:30 pm Instructor: TBA March 2 - June 3 90 hours

This 90 hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.

Note: There is no outside externship rotation included with this program.

The 60 hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions – Dental Assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topics – Admin-istrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program.

Welding Basics

Mondays

Instructor: Dennis Paschke $350; Mondays, 6 -10 pm

January 12 - March 16 (10 weeks)

This class is for entry-level positions in weld-ing and for the experienced welder. Students may choose to specialize in any area of weld-ing. Skill areas include oxyacetylene welding, cutting and brazing, arc welding, MIG and TIG welding.

Certified Welding

Instructor Dennis Paschke $1900; 120 hours

Mon - Thurs; 3:30-6:30 pm January 12 - March 19 (10 weeks);

Our certified welding class prepares students to become certified in one area in both vertical and overhead positions. Students prepare to take an in-house certification following standards and guide-lines from the American Welding Society. Certifi-cation is available in either Mig, Tig or Arc Weld-ing.

90% attendance is required for certification. It is strongly recommended that students have some prior experience in welding or have tak-en the Welding Basics class prior to taking the certification class.

Instructor: Joe Price $400 Mondays, 5:00 - 9:00 pm January 12 - February 9. (5 weeks)

In this course, students will learn all the topics necessary to pass the State of Michigan Mechanic Certification Test for Suspensions, Front End Alignments, and Steering.. Students will have hands-on training with supplied tools and vehi-cles.

Reiki

Instructor: Tracy Chalcraft

Reiki is a form of hands-on, natural healing that uses universal life force energy. It is not meant to take the place of a physician’s treatment, but instead to work with it. Reiki is an alternative thera-py for holistic health with benefits including stress reduction and relaxation which help the body heal. This is not a religion and does not interfere with any religious practices or beliefs. This tech-nique is used in the Cleveland Clinic and St John’s Hospital. In Level I, students will learn the techniques of Reiki. Upon completion of this class, students will be issued a certificate and be able to perform Reiki on themselves and others.

Computers for Beginners

Instructor: Pam Smith

Are you new to using computers? Do you wonder what people mean when they say the Cloud, Windows, browser, ISP, etc.? Perhaps you would just like to know more about how computers work? When it comes to learning the basics, Computers for Beginners has it covered. Come for one class or all.

Please bring a USB flash drive for to save your work for all computer classes.

Jan 14 Getting to know your computer:

Students will learn the different computer parts, basics of the Windows operating system including opening programs and how to get around on their computer.

Jan 21 Learning to use Windows including Windows 8:

Students will learn how to access programs, create and organizing files, move files by dragging and dropping, and how to save your work.

Jan 28 Accessing the Internet and understanding Email:

Students will learn how to set up their internet browser, “surf the net”, how to use Search Engines, and safe guarding their computer from viruses. Students will also learn how to create emails and how to add and save attachments in their emails.

Feb 4 Understanding Files and Folders

Students will learn to create files and place them in folders, find and print files, save and retrieve files.

Feb 11 & Microsoft Word 2007 (TENTATIVE)

Feb 18 Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Word 2007 exploring how to open documents, edit letters and much more. This class runs for two weeks - $24.

Take your word processing skills to a new level. The basics of word will be briefly discussed. Students will learn to format documents and prepare documents for presentation. Students will also learn to use word for research and mail merge.

Basic Microsoft Excel

Are you confused about Excel? Learn the basic about managing columns, rows and formats. Students will also learn about basic formulas, functions, and charts. Some advanced functions will be covered, also.

QuickBooks Pro 2013

Instructor: Meagan Green

$175+$80(book) Wednesdays, To be determined (10 weeks) 5:30-8:30 pm

Learn to work with customer/vendor transactions, create a set of books for a company, deal with physical and selling inventory, use QuickBooks for payroll, do their banking with QuickBooks, and much more. This course is a self-paced approach.

(140 day student software included).

Students will have the option of taking a Certification Exam to become a “Certified QuickBooks User” for a small additional cost.

No experience or “talent” is required, just a desire to paint. This painting class teach-es the wet-on-wet method of oil painting. Paintings are completed in one steach-ession.

Students must bring a 16” x 20” canvas, baby wipes, paper towel, & a box for transporting painting. Call to get your name on the list to see what will be painted each month.

Healthy Living

Instructor: Becky Vogel, Master Herbalist

Wednesdays - 5:00 - 6:00 pm $12 each session

Becky teaches informative classes on living healthier using natural methods and hand- made products! This session will cover classes on how the ingredients in the foods we eat can be the cause of our aller- gies. Students will learn different names that are used for the ingredients and also what to watch for and avoid. Learn from someone who is knowledgeable and has practical experience. Come to only the classes that interest you.

January 21 Sugars: Learn the different names for sugars included in the ingredients for products.

January 28 Corn: If you are allergic to corn products, you need to learn what to watch for and what to avoid.

February 4 Glutens: Do you have issues with gluten in your diet. Learn how this Ingredient can be identified.

February 11 Alternatives for Store Bought Items: Students will learn to make their own moisturizers, deodorants, and more. An additional $5-$10 charge will collected to cover the cost of supplies.

Belly Dancing

Want to shake up your exercise routine? How about learning Belly Dancing? This is the class for you. Learn the basic moves for traditional belly dancing while getting some great exercise. Students will learn the correct posture and muscle control to be-come proficient at belly dancing. Belly Dancing is for any age, size and shape. Any-one can learn and have fun. No previous experience is necessary. Students should wear comfortable clothes.

Get the most out of digital imaging by learning Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. This is an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use version that is very user-friendly!

Preserve Your Pictures

Students will learn how to upload photos and documents, print them, and save their photos and docu-ments in various formats.

Bring memory card with photos to scan and a CD or USB flash drive.

Windows Photo Gallery

$20 Monday, 5:00 - 7:00 pm (1 week) February 23

Learn how to use Windows Photo Gallery to manage your pictures with organizing and tagging tools. Students will also learn how to edit pictures using the resizing, cropping, and other specialized editing tools available.

Hoop House Introduction 101

Instructor: Kirk Forsyth

$45 Thursdays, 6:-00 - 7:30 pm January 22 - February 12 (4 weeks)

How would you like to extend your growing season for fresh vegetables? This is the class for you. Students will learn the basics of constructing and maintaining a hoop house to extend your growing season of hardy greens. This will be useful whether students have a large garden or use raised boxes.

Just bring paper and pencil for note taking.

Biology Help Room

Are you struggling with in your Biology classes either in college or high school? Would you like some help to be get better grades on your work and tests? A Certified secondary Biology teacher is available to help students understand or catch up on Biology concepts in a one-on-one or small group setting. Call to reserve a time slot. Space is limited!

This exciting class will explore numerous as-pects of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books, documentaries and the internet in your area. This will cover all the basics, including how to prepare the all-important demo, how to be suc-cessful and earn great income in this exciting field, Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and to hear examples of demos recorded by professional voice actors. Class participants will even have a chance to record a commercial script under the direction of our Voicecoaches.com producer! This class is informative, lots of fun, and a great first step for anyone with an interest in voice acting profes-sionally.

Learn the basics to Country Line Dancing. This class will start you out at the beginning of each dance with easy steps that you can build on each week. Don’t worry if you miss one, you will be able to catch up in no time! Soon you will be dancing like the pros. A great form of exercise!

NOTE: Basic Class has slower paced line dances for beginners.

Beyond Basic is a faster pace.
