LMN Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

September 23, 2019

MEMBERS PRESENT: Rich Nielson, Evelyn Nielson, Mike Hammack, Jeanie Springer, Debbie Kyrouac, Rich Bradley, Arthur Williams, Jim Doyle, Robin Hagan, Jane Schnell. Aleta Meyer. Chapter Adviser: Troy Leupke

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5 PM.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Rich B moved acceptance of the August minutes; second, Jeanie. Carried.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Rich N said Susan Bogle has agreed to help LMN organize its participation in the Big Give. He will appoint a committee, including Jane, to work with Susan.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Rich B moved acceptance of the Treasurer’s report; second, Jim. Carried. Bank balance at the end of July: $6149.97.

VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Jim had no comment beyond his filed report

PAST PRES. REPORT: Rich B had no comment.

COMMUNICATIONS REPORT: Marilyn was absent but filed a report. Rich N noted we are getting more traffic on our website and Facebook page.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Cheryl Trock was not present but filed a report.

PROJECTS REPORT: Jeanie provided her report ahead of the meeting. She said she was deleting the name of the person requesting approval of a project for privacy considerations since this information is now placed on our website.

EDUCATION REPORT: Mike said all members of the current class should graduate and 26 of 28 should certify. Fourteen are expected to double certify. He filed a membership report. Rich N said the two new education co-chairs should be on the LMN board. Jeanie moved Debra Eames and Rick Corbell be added as members of the board. Second, Mike. Carried

OUTREACH REPORT: Debbie stated she has completed the inventory of the travelling trunks. She said Darlene Varga had added a number of insect specimens to the butterfly trunk making it a more valuable asset.

CHAPTER ADVISOR: Troy described some changes planned for the Comal County fairgrounds, and where the LMN booth will be. We will be included in the nature section, an improvement over last year.

OTHER BUSINESS: Evelyn described preparations for the chapter annual meeting and Christmas party. She and Rich will barbeque the turkey. Troy volunteered to smoke the ham. Evelyn will announce dates by which members must sign up at the next chapter meeting.

Rich N said the board should consider a donation to State Office to help offset the cost of the annual meeting. Aleta moved the chapter donate $100 to State Office. Second, Jeanie. Motion failed.

Rich N requested committee chairs submit budget needs for next year. So far, he has received only Education’s.

Rich B asked the board executive to email him if they intend to run for office again next year. He will be putting together a slate of candidates.

There has been one submission so far for the Community Recognition Award. That one is for the CCCA.

There will be a geology-oriented field trip for the chapter to be led by Joe and Jane Finneran on Oct. 15. This will be limited to 10 participants on a first come basis. AT for this trip is pending review by the projects committee.

The August Flyer on “Black Crested Titmouse” was developed & emailed to all publicity contacts +

LMN members via Ops & Info. The information was posted by Out & About Calendar,

HZ/Stammtisch, TPML Calendar, Website, Facebook & Pinterest (new posting).

Flyer for Community Naturalist Award: As of

8/31/19, there were no nominations submitted via the

website.

Collecting photos for TMN State Meeting
