MAIN THEME: The seminar will look at the main challenges and strategies for human

development and sustainability in the Asian century. It will critically analyze growing inequality and the neglect of local level/rural development. Multidisciplinary professionals and practitioners from the field of social work, social welfare, social development, education, health, management, etc., will deliberate issues and innovations relating to poverty, inequality, politics, gender, environmental sustainability, local institutions and policies and programs, particularly with reference to vulnerable population groups cutting across various sections and sectors.

FEATURES: Key-note speakers, plenary and concurrent sessions, ICSD-AP presidential awards,

book releases and field trip.

Key-note Speaker: Professor Achin Chakraborty

Professor Achin Chakraborty, Director of the Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata, is a leading developmental economist and specializes in welfare economics, microeconomic issues, human development and health economics. Professor Chakraborty has been commissioned to undertake several research projects funded by the Indian Planning Commission and UN agencies. His research outcomes have been not only published in high quality journals, but also recognized both at national and international levels for human development policies and programs.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:

Applicants are advised to submit abstracts (in English) via E-mail attached as a word document to: [email protected] using the format set out below.

Format: Abstracts should include the following details and sequence, and be in Microsoft Word, 12 point font.

1. Presenter details (names, addresses, telephone numbers, fax and email) 2. Presentation format (oral or poster?)

3. Title (not to exceed 15 words)

4. Abstract overview (not to exceed 50 words) 5. Keywords (4 to 5)

6. Abstract (between 300-500 words) 7. Audio-visual equipment if needed

REGISTRATION:

Registration Fee and Payment Method for Indian Participants:

For participants from India, the modified registration fee would be Rs 2000/-. It should be paid through Demand Draft in favour of the Principal, PSV, Visva-Bharati payable at SBI, Santiniketan Branch (Branch Code: 2121). The last date for receipt of registration fee with registration form is December 20, 2014. Participants are requested to avoid spot registration. Moreover, spot registration fee would be Rs 3000/-. Registration fee will include conference kit, tea and snacks during seminar, meals on seminar days (i.e. only two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners), and participation in the cultural programme. As there is paucity of funds, participants have to make their own arrangement for accommodation and travelling. We request you to seek financial support from your parent institution. If participants face difficulties to find out accommodation at Bolpur/Santiniketan, on request, we can facilitate to get very modest accommodation in University Guest House or in Hotels. Payment will be made by the participants directly to the hotel/guest house.

LOCATION AND IMPORTANT PLACES FOR VISIT

Department of Social Work, Visva-Bharati, Sriniketan is 180 km by road from Kolkata. By rail,

Howrah to Bolpur train has to be taken which comes through

‘Howrah-Bardhaman-Bolpur-Rampurhat’ route on the Eastern Railway. Get down at Bolpur station. Kolkata Airport is the nearest

airport.

Visva-Bharati is itself a heritage site and a popular tourist spot. Local area is known for leather products and unique clothing products. There is a hot spring at a distance of about 40 km and
