Financial Aid FAQ

What is financial aid and who should apply?

Financial aid

is available to students in K – Grade 12. Grants are given on an annual

basis. While there is no obligation to repay them, we hope that

recipi-ents and their families will consider supporting Laurel in the future so

that others may benefit from the same opportunity. Our financial aid

program helps us enroll a well-qualified, diverse student body. The

school’s generous financial aid budget averages 17% of the yearly

operating budget. Financial aid awards range from several hundred to

several thousand dollars and are intended to supplement a family’s

resources. Awards are made not only to families whose ability to pay

is extremely limited, but also to those who may need only a small

sub-sidy. Families who have reviewed their financial situation and still find

the tuition prohibitive are encouraged to apply for financial aid.

(6)

Financial Aid FAQ

(continued)

How do I apply for financial aid?

1. Check the box on the application to inform us of your interest in

applying for financial aid.

2. Starting on November 1, 2014, go to sss.secure.force.com/

familyportal.

3. Click on the prompt to begin your Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS).

You only need to complete one PFS even if you have several children

applying to Laurel School.

4. You will be asked to create a username and password that will allow

you to return to your PFS at a later date before submitting it. Your

in-formation will be secure.

5. You will be given instructions about submitting backup

documen-tation to SSS (School and Student Services).

Note: When you apply online, your information will be delivered

ac-curately and quickly to Laurel School, allowing us to make a quicker

decision about your eligibility for financial aid.

Call NAIS 800.344.8328 with any questions.

What if I am divorced or separated?

Both natural parents are

expected to contribute to their daughter’s education. In addition to

the custodial parent’s Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS), we will need

from the other natural parent a completed Financial Statement for

Parents Who are Separated or Divorced or Have Never Been Married.

The most recent Federal Income Tax Form 1040 and all supporting

schedules also must be sent to SSS.

How is financial aid determined?

Laurel is committed to

need-based financial aid. The Report of Parental Contribution, all

in-come-tax forms, and any other information you have submitted are

re-viewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Your daughter’s potential to

succeed academically and to become a contributing member of the

Laurel community is also considered.

When will I know?

The Financial Aid Committee does not

re-view financial aid requests until all financial aid paperwork is

com-plete and the candidate has been accepted for admission. Fourth

Grade applicants will be notified of their financial aid awards on

Jan-uary 16, 2015. Applicants for Kindergarten-Third Grade will be

no-tified on February 27, 2015. Every student who is offered admission

to the school and applies for financial aid is seriously considered by

the Financial Aid Committee but is not guaranteed an award.

Will my child receive financial aid in subsequent

years?

A family must reapply for financial aid each year. The

Finan-cial Aid Committee may change the amount of the award if there is a

significant change in the family’s circumstances.
