Conference Overview

Who Should Attend?

• Cable Engineers • Transmission Engineers • Asset Managers • Maintenance Supervisors • Engineering Supervisors • Project Managers • Consultants • Contractors • Service Providers • Vendors • Equipment Manufacturers

Share knowledge

and best practices

with your fellow

cable professionals

in Indian Wells, CA,

USA.

Continuing to build on the success of past industry-open cables

workshops in 2008, 2013 and 2014, CEATI International's 2015 event

will focus on sharing best practices and emerging issues for safely

working on transmission underground cable systems.

Recognizing that clear communication and collaboration are crucial

when working on high-voltage systems, the event aims to bring in

multiple perspectives from across the industry. Presentations will draw

from the expertise and experience of electric utilities, cable and

accessory manufacturers, and thought leaders in the field of

engineering work practices. Supported by CEATI's Transmission

Underground Cables Interest Group (TUCIG), the event will explore the

latest developments in tools and techniques to improve the design,

installation, operation and management of transmission underground

cable systems.

The conference will provide an open forum for information exchange

and deliberation, with a particular focus on technical presentations,

case studies, and the sharing of ideas and experiences for the benefit of

the industry.

HV Underground Cables:

Spring 2015 Industry Conference

(2)

CEATI’s 2015 Cable Industry Conference will focus on the

following topics:

CEATI International Inc. brings electrical utility industry professionals together, through focused interest groups and collaborative projects, to identify and address technical issues that are critical to their organizations. Participants can undertake projects that respond to their strategic goals at a fraction of the cost of doing so independently. The need for international breadth and inter-industry applicability in technology development is addressed through a practical, dynamic and cost effective program.

Session 1: Tutorials on Underground Cable Accessories

• Challenges and Lessons Learned on Design, Installation, and Maintenance of Riser Cable Supports

• Transmission Voltage Transition Joints from SCLF and Pipe-Type Cables to Extruded Cables – Design and Features • Transmission Network Expansion Optimisation Using Asymmetric Joints and Transition Joints

• Accessories for HV and EHV Extruded Cable Systems

• Issues on Interface Coordination, Test Protocols and Commissioning of SF6 Terminations to LPFF, XLPE, and HPFF • Application and Lessons Learned on Real Time Monitoring Systems on Transmission of Cable Systems

• Application, Selection (Sizing), and Inspection of Transmission Cable Sheath Voltage Limiters Session 2: Design Considerations to Improve Worker and Public Safety

• Safety Equipment for Working in Confined Spaces

• Dry-Type Outdoor & Equipment Terminations for Transmission Voltage Extruded Cables – Design & Features • Experiences from PD Testing at Commissioning, On-line Spot Testing and Continuous Monitoring

• Arc Blast Blankets and PPE Strategies for Working Around HV Cables Session 3: Lessons Learned from Recent Utility Incidents

• Trans Bay Submarine Cable Incident

• Report on the Failure and Subsequent Fire in the Lower Termination of the New C-Phase Cable

• Lessons Learned from LIOS' Recent DTS & RTTR Application Onto High & Extra HV Underground Transmission Cable Systems • Lessons Learned on Incidents and Mitigation Techniques on Corrosion and Oil Leaks on HPFF Cables Systems

• Power System Disturbances and Grounding System Performance

• Review of Utility Grounding System and Induction Events that Damaged Transmission Cables

1. Educate each other through information and experience sharing;

2. Provide knowledge and procedures necessary to recognize and manage the risks associated with maintaining high-voltage underground cable systems;

3. Identify areas where additional research may improve our knowledge of safe work practices; 4. Identify ways to assure that the knowledge of the past is available for the future, and previous mistakes are not repeated;

5. Develop a strategy to ensure the continuation of global communication, coordination, collaboration and advancement.
