KVM Systems

The classic KVM system consists of an operator terminal

and a KVM box. The KVM box extends the transmission

distance of VGA interfaces / DVIs, or keyboard and mouse

interfaces of up to 500 m (copper), or 10,000 m (LWL) to

the operator terminal on site – in the hazardous area or

industrial production environment.

The new KVM box DVI3 has been developed in-house

by R. STAHL HMI and specifically designed for use in

the process industries. It allows for transmission of all

current resolutions to the on-site area – 19", 22", 24", and

24"WU. The fully digital data transmission delivers the

best picture quality at the operator terminal, and allows

for "plug & play" operation without any additional driver to

be installed.

KVM OVER IP

The process industries' demand for modern network

technologies, virtual machines, and Thin Clients keeps

growing. The main advantages of these technologies are:

cost-effectiveness, centralized data and security

manage-ment, and a high level of flexibility for remote access.

Thin Clients communicate with other clients / PCs, or

ser-vers over standard Ethernet TCP/IP, RDP, VNC, or Netc@ap,

thus enabling integrated communications across all levels

– from the field level through to the enterprise

manage-ment level (ERP).

Mobile operators working on-site in the hazardous area

can flexibly access any PC, server, or virtual machine from

the Thin Client operator terminal, thus providing

compre-hensive information, and resulting in highly effective

ope-rator control and information management. The network

technology eliminates any distance limitations.
