The 2020 International Beethoven Festival

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The 2022 International Let Music Live Festival commemorates humanity’s sacrifice and resilience during the scourge of the global pandemic of 2020, and it honors the power of music in our lives as it resounds in two of the world’s greatest concert halls. With repertoire that provides solemn respect to those who lost their lives, and that enkindles hope toward the future, the Let Music Live Festival borrows its title from the final three words of “The Awakening” by Joseph Martin, which concludes the Festival’s performances. Under the co-direction of Artistic Directors Andrew Crow and Douglas Droste, participating choruses and orchestra will perform in the Rudolfinum in Prague and the Musikverein in Vienna, two world-class, iconic performance venues. The Festival will feature the opportunity for individual choirs to combine in rehearsal and performance with a select orchestra and soloists. Full or partial choirs, individual singers, orchestral musicians, and non-performing applicants are invited to participate (participation in the festival does not require that a choir tour with a balanced ensemble). Participating ensembles will be provided customized tour itineraries accommodating their scheduled concert performances. A sample itinerary is provided herein under

“Tentative Itinerary.” Balanced choirs may elect to arrange additional concert performances under the auspices of the 2022 Let Music Live Festival.

INDIVIDUAL CHORAL

& INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCES

Balanced choirs and instrumental ensembles may elect to perform an independent concert featuring repertoire of their directors’ choice in a venue outside of the two Festival Concerts. All programs must be submitted for approval by the Festival Artistic Directors. A wide range of venues are available with which to offer exceptional performance opportunities to individual choirs, bands and orchestras.

Interested ensembles are encouraged to contact a Classic Performances representative to discuss available opportunities. Possible independent concert venues include: The Haydn Church (Esterhazy), Vienna’s Sofiensaal, St. Stephansdom, Palais Ferstel, Schonbrunn Palace, and Votiv Kirche.

APPLICATION MATERIALS

To ensure a peak artistic performance at all venues and the opportunity for all to experience a once in a lifetime memory, we ask that each director submit a recent audio/video recording of their ensemble along with the Choral and Instrumental Application Form found at the end of this prospectus. This will allow the Artistic Directors to hear each ensemble in order to assign participation in both Festival Concerts in the Rudolfinum and the Musikverein. It will also be utilized to identify ensembles who select to perform in an independent concert in one of the other local venues.

For choral members, please include a video recording of a live performance. This performance should include a music selection that clearly represents your group’s level of proficiency and experience. The length of your submission can be up to 10 minutes in total length. A full camera view of the ensemble and conductor is preferred. The video should be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and a link should be provided on the application form. For individual orchestral musicians, please submit a one-page resume and at least two uploaded standard orchestral excerpts.
