“... and you shall call his name

Jesus,

for he will save his people from their sins.”

On the first Sunday of the new calendar year, January 2, 2022, I will share with you two special Sundays that are set aside in January to make our commitments for the 2022 “Reaching Families for the Future” building campaign. It is not too soon to be praying about this commitment time. Our financial secretary has shared with me that all gifts to the building fund from January 1 – November 30, 2021, have totaled more than $295,000.00. To God be the Glory!

I will also update you on January 2, 2022, of any additional information we’ve received regarding the construction of the new Family Life Center. As of this writing we are still prayerful for the delivery of the steel by mid-January.

PLEASE continue to pray about this entire project and the needed materials. Since we began this building campaign in 2019, all designated gifts have totaled $1,891,139.00. Thank you, Jesus, and thank you to the faithfulness of God’s children!

We are only $108,861.00 away from the two-million-dollar mark. Let’s all pray and ask the Lord to give us His great help to reach the $2,000,000.00 mark by December 31, 2021. It would be a goal worthy of our sincerest prayer efforts together.

With joy because of the birth of the Christ child, I look forward to celebrating the remainder of this season with all of you.

God is with us!

Praise the Lord for Sunday School!

Sunday School is the church, organized to carry out its Great Commission mandate to spread the Gospel, teach the Bible, and make disciples who do all the things Jesus commanded. If we didn’t have Sunday School, we would miss out on building relationships, interactive Bible study, and one-on-one ministry and discipleship. Sunday School is vitally important to the spiritual life and growth of God’s children.

I’m so thankful for the godly leaders the Lord has called to teach and minister and lead our Sunday School classes. They give of themselves week after week through study, ministry, outreach, making calls, and teaching the Bible. I hope you pray for and thank God for your Sunday School class leaders.

Last year Sunday School was shut down from mid-March through November. We restarted in-person Sunday School classes a year ago. The chart below shows Sunday School attendance growth from last December through November of 2021. As you can see, attendance has grown steadily. Last month’s average attendance was 257! Praise the Lord for that wonderful growth!

Have you gotten back into Sunday School? If not, I hope you’ll come this week. You’ll be welcomed by warm, loving people who will be happy to see you.

Minister of Education

With the Christmas season upon us, the “Safe Harbor” Youth group started a deeper dive into understanding just how miraculous the manger birth of our Savior was.

Split into teams, the students took sections of the Christmas story as found in the gospel of Matthew and proceeded to explain the story in common, everyday language, complete with some costumes and props depicting the era.

Examining the first section of the scriptures allowed us to discuss the honor of Joseph, the importance and necessity of the virgin birth, and how the coming of our Savior was prophesied throughout the Old Testament.

The second section allowed us to discuss just how the wise men found the birthplace through celestial direction, how they worshipped the baby by way of homage and gifts, and just how this little newborn brought about such jealousy from King Herod and troubled much of Jerusalem.

And finally, the third section allowed us to discuss God's guiding, protective hand as well as the cruelty and evil that boiled from Herod and cost the lives of so many innocents. But at the same time, each turn of this true and “greatest story ever told” has been written and recorded, all foretold, for man to understand the love of God.

This Christmas, re-read the Christmas story and marvel at this miraculous birth of our Savior.

Keep the Faith!!

Setting up Recurring Giving

One of the best ways to make sure your tithes and offerings get to church on time is to set up a recurring gift.

Through our online giving portal, you can set up a recurring gift for your regular tithes, the building fund, or any other fund. When you set up a recurring gift, your offering will be made for you automatically, without you having to remember it.

The steps below will help you set up your recurring gift:

1. Go to our online giving portal through either our Church app or our website (morningside.ws). See the examples below:

2. Once you get to the “Give Now” page, sign in (or set up a giving account if this is your first time using online giving).

3. Choose the “Recurring” tab (see example at right):

4. Select the fund you want to give to.

5. Enter the amount of your recurring gift.

6. Set the frequency for your gift: weekly, every other week, monthly, etc.

7. Click “Submit.”

That’s all there is to it. Your recurring offering will automatically be sent to the church, without you having to remember it.

You can change the frequency, amount, or even cancel your recurring gift at any time.
