The Words of Eternal Life
Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?"
Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."
-From today’s Holy Gospel, John 6:60-69

Sacramental Life
Baptism
To have a child baptized, parents must register and attend a class as a couple. Try to attend before your child is born. At least one parent and godparent must be practicing Catholics. Please call or email the church office for information or to register.
Confession
The priest is available for Penance at St. Bernadette on Saturday at 3 PM and Thursday at 5:30 PM, and at St. Mary Bremen on Sunday at 8 AM. First Saturday Confessions are held at 8:30 AM at St.
Bernadette. Every Catholic priest is available whenever there is a need.
Anointing and Care of the Sick
The priest gives the Anointing of the Sick to one who is dangerously ill, facing major surgery, or suffering from the ravages of old age. Call the parish office before a hospitalization or when it has been too long since the Sacraments were last available.
Holy Matrimony
Couples wishing to marry should contact the parish office six months before a wedding. Why so long?
Because this sacrament, not just the ceremony, requiresserious preparation. And the Church needs to be involved in that preparation. The Church needs to support couples through the years of married life and offers programs to enhance married life. To learn about these programs, watch the bulletin.
Eucharistic Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration takes place each Wednesday at St. Bernadette with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 9 AM and Benediction and Reposition at 1 PM. All are welcome.

Collar Corner
Back to school! This is an exciting time.
What a great open house we had last week!
Thanks for the wonderful welcome there.
Parents: you are your child’s first educators.
We are there to help you with their academic and spiritual formation, whether through our Catholic schools or PSR or youth ministry.
Special kudos to our staff for their hard work to serve all of our youth well at every level!
Let’s all do our part for an awesome year!
In response to the scandalous news stories,
three sources are available for you to consider:
The Holy Father:
www.osservatoreromano.va/en/news/letter- people-god
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:
http://usccb.org/news/2018/18-138.cfm The Diocese of Columbus:
https://columbuscatholic.org/statements While these are not exhaustive in addressing the various levels of scandal, let us be clear:
sin is against the Will of God and His Church.
Individuals sin. The Lord Himself is holy.
The truth of Catholicism is not compromised one bit by any kind or amount of human evil.
What is needed in the face of sin? Saints.
Real holiness is the ultimate answer, always.
Let us pray sincerely and intensely for the healing of all victims, for whom news stories are realities, and for our beloved Church, that she may be graced with great saints in our day.
In Our Lord and Our Lady, Father Tomson
REMEMBER: If you haven’t already, please text STBERN for St. Bernadette or STMARY for St. Mary to the number 97000 and you will automatically be included when messages are sent to each parish.
At Prayer with the Church
How the Church Prays at Mass Today
O God, who cause the minds of the faithful to unite in a single purpose, grant your people to love what you command and to desire what you promise, that, amid the uncertainties of this world, our hearts maybe fixed on that place where true gladness is found. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Missionary Appeal
Father Ferdinand Lukoa extends his gratitude for the especially generous collection last week. For those who didn’t have an opportunity to contribute, drop a marked envelope in the basket and we can still forward it along.
Make your check payable to St. Bernadette or St. Mary and put Salvatorian Missions in the memo line. Thank you for your prayers and gifts.

May They Rest In Peace
In your charity, please pray for the repose of the souls of Marjorie Kilbarger Layman and Robert Waits of St.
Bernadette who died recently. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
St. B. Parish School of Religion
St. Bernadette PSR registration information is available in the hallway after Masses. There is a parent meeting today, Sunday, Aug. 26, in the Parish Hall at 10 AM. Our first class with children will be Sunday, September 9. Classes begin at 9:30 AM and end at 10:45 AM. The tuition for PSR remains the same as last year, $35 per student, with a maximum of $60 per family for grades K to 7. Confirmation student tuition is $40. The PSR program is in need of a few volunteers. We are looking for some parishioners who would like to help share their faith with the youth of our church as teachers and classroom aides. Working with youth is a rewarding experience and we are grateful for any time you are willing to commit.
Youth Ministry
This year at St. Bernadette, youth will be transformed with 3 dynamic series in youth ministry, including:
Theology of the Body - where teens learn how St. Pope John Paul II shared God’s beautiful vision of human
sexuality and revolutionized the way parents and educators teach morality and chastity to teens.
Altaration- addressing head-on one of the biggest problems we all face---how do we get Catholic teens to appreciate the awesome beauty and mystery of the Mass and look forward to participating in it.
Bible Timeline for Teens - where teens learn the exciting journey of salvation history and God’s unfailing love for them.
In addition, we will have nights of recollection with Fr.
Tomson that include Scripture reading, Confession and Adoration. Please join us for a Youth Ministry Parent Information & Teen Sign- Up Session this evening, Sunday, August 26, from 6-8 PM at the Mary Good Center. This program will give teens the answers and the tools they need to successfully and safely navigate through life.
