HAVING A C-SECTION?
Americord uses the only sterile exterior cord blood collection bag that has been approved by the FDA for all births, including Cesarean sections. Unlike some less expensive cord blood bags that can be adapted for C-section births, your doctor does not have to attach or sterilize any parts. Every Collection Kit contains this bag, so even if it’s a surprise C-section, we’ve got you covered.
CORD BLOOD
DID YOU KNOW...
• Stem cells from cord blood can be used to treat various medical problems for your child, his or her siblings, and other family members
• More than 80 diseases are treat-able using cord blood stem cells • Stem cells from cord blood can
only be collected and preserved right after a baby is born
WHAT IS CORD BLOOD?
Cord blood is an easily accessible source of stem cells that is available only when your baby is born. It remains in the umbilical cord and in the placenta following birth.
Blood System Building Blocks
The type of stem cells that are recovered at birth from the umbilical cord and the placenta, called cord blood stem cells, are classified as hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). HSCs can become any of the blood cells and cellular blood components in our bodies (such as white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, etc.). Transplants of stem cells from cord blood are an effective therapy for certain blood borne and genetic diseases, including various types of leukemia and lymphoma.
Cord Blood 2.0™ Preserves Up To Twice As Many Stem Cells
Americord takes cord blood banking to the next level with Cord Blood 2.0™, enabling you to preserve up to twice as many stem cells compared to a typical cord blood collection.
Our two-step process starts with our innovative and patent-pending*
Gravity Stand™, which is exclusively available through Americord,
to collect cord blood. Your baby’s cord blood then goes through a proprietary process at our lab to extract up to twice as many stem cells compared to a traditional cord blood collection.
Cord Blood 2.0™ is an important advancement for parents looking
to preserve their baby’s stem cells, and it is only available through Americord.
More Stem Cells = More Medical Options
Until now, a significant limitation of cord blood banking has been that the number of stem cells that are preserved in a typical cord blood collection are only sufficient to treat someone who weighs up to about 65 pounds if doctors follow best practices. With Cord Blood 2.0™, up to twice as many stem cells can be preserved, making it possible to treat larger patients or expand treatment opportunities for smaller patients.

CORD TISSUE
DID YOU KNOW...
• MSCs are genetically unique to your baby and family
• MSCs are the fastest growing area of stem cell research • MSCs from cord tissue can only
be collected right after your baby is born
WHAT IS CORD TISSUE?
Cord tissue refers to the tissue of the umbilical cord (not the blood inside of it). Until recently, cord tissue was usually discarded with the placenta after birth, but research has shown that cord tissue stem cells have the potential for treating many diseases.
The Difference is in the Tissue
Cord tissue contains mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Unlike the stem cells that are collected from cord blood, MSCs are multipotent, which means they have the capacity to differentiate into many different types of cells, including cartilage cells, bone cells, fat cells, and many types of connective tissue, such as cardiac muscle cells. This means that MSCs could potentially be used to treat a wider range of diseases than are currently treatable. Parents-to-be who want to expand their baby’s options for future medical treatment should consider banking stem cells from their baby’s cord tissue.
NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR
TREATMENTS AND CURES
Scientists around the world agree that MSCs from cord tissue hold great promise. There are more than 40 clinical trials currently being conducted using MSCs from cord tissue.

PLACENTA TISSUE
PRESERVE STEM CELLS FOR MOM TOO
The placenta, which nourishes your baby all through your pregnancy, can also be incredibly valuable immediately after your baby is born since it contains vast quantities of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Placenta tissue banking, like cord tissue banking, enables you to preserve MSCs for future medical use.
Choose to store both: Two Sources of MSCs, Two Sets of Benefits
MSCs from placenta tissue and cord tissue have unique properties, which can impact how they may be used in medical therapies for both mom and baby.
MSCs from CORD TISSUE: Baby Match
• Are genetically matched with the baby and may be useful for other family members
• Have greater proliferative capacity and shorter duplication time • Are more suitable for treatment of diseases involving the brain
and spinal cord, such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease
MSCs from PLACENTA TISSUE: Mom Match
• Are genetically matched with the mother and may be useful for other family members
• Have greater adhesive properties, enabling them to engraft more easily during a transplant
• Have greater secretion of important growth factors
Americord’s Win-Win Innovation
Americord’s proprietary method of processing and storing MSCs from placenta tissue has resulted in the ability to not only get more MSCs from placenta tissue, but also keeps more of them healthy in case you ever need them. We have established a 99% stem cell viability rate for MSCs from placenta tissue stored in our laboratory.

BEHIND THE SCENES EXPERTISE:
AMERICORD’S LABORATORY
Americord uses Cook General BioTechnology LLC (“CGBT”) for all processing and storage of cord blood. CGBT was founded in 1997 and is registered with the FDA as a Human Cell & Tissue Products establishment. Its facility is designed to meet and exceed the needs of its customers, and has been designed with features that include: multi-layer intrusion monitoring and video surveillance; emergency power from an independent generator and a backup generator; smoke, water, and fire detection monitoring; telephony for monitoring systems; reliable freezer temperature monitoring; stand-by freezers; facility ambient temperature control; UPS battery backup systems for sensitive equipment.
Your baby’s stem cells are processed within hours of when your collection kit is received in our laboratory, even if it happens to be a holiday. We test cord blood samples before and after processing as part of our quality control to ensure that each sample is contaminant-free on arrival and continues to be during processing in our laboratory. Our screening exceeds FDA regulations for testing and quality control.

LETTER FROM
THE FOUNDER
Thank you for taking the time to read through our information kit. We hope it helps you make the best decision for your baby and family when it comes to preserving your newborn’s stem cells.
Since founding Americord Registry, our singular goal has been to provide the highest quality cord blood banking services at the best value. Toward that end, we have prioritized making investments in industry-leading products and services as well as in research and development of cutting-edge technologies that are already setting new standards in our industry.
But, as much as we are intensely focused on the science of stem cells, we never forget that behind every new enrollment there is a family awaiting the arrival of their new baby (or babies!). It is a momentous time, filled with many things to do. From our 24/7/365 hotline to our white glove bedside pickup service, we aim to make every step of the process simple and easy for you. I am proud to say that our efforts to deliver the very best to our clients have been rewarded – Americord has been the fastest growing cord blood bank in the industry since 2011. We hope to be able to serve you and your family.
