Feast of the Holy Family
December 27, 2020
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I hope that you had a healthy, safe, and joyful Christmas celebration with your immediate family and loved ones. Considering the public health condition at this time of pandemic, I certainly feel the difference of the Christmas celebration this year compared to the previous years in the past. This is now what we call the ‘new normal’. We just have to face the fact that the usual ways of doing things in the past are gone. We need to find a way to adjust to this new way of doing things to make sure that we all are safe and protected from this novel corona virus.
This year 2020, aside from it is already a year to remember or forget in many ways depending on how you look at it, our liturgy also is a little bit different. Notice that almost immediately right after Christmas Day we already celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family on the very next Sunday. Usually, it takes a week or so before we celebrate this
feast after Christmas Day. This year it looks different, as if it also feels the extraordinariness of the year. We barely celebrate Christmas then a day after, it is the
Feast of the Holy Family.
It made me think about the significance of the Holy Family of Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus in a manger. There must be something in this year’s celebration of the Feast of the Holy Family that we can get to boost our energies and spirit to survive this health crisis. Maybe God is trying to shake our minds and hearts to the importance of focusing our utmost attention to our respective families as we try to fight this crisis. Maybe God is telling us to examine our respective family relationships and see if we are still moving in one direction seeking to fulfill our goals and mission in life as a faith-filled family.
Let us try to investigate this matter seriously as we celebrate this weekend the Feast of the Holy Family. Remember how the family of Nazareth begin their new life with simplicity and complete trust in God’s providential care. Maybe this is what God want us to do this year as we prepare to face another year with hope and joy.
As we thank God for the gift of his Son Jesus this Christmas, let us also try our best to imitate the example of the Holy Family in their simplicity and humility. Like Christmas, we may find ourselves busy preparing for the coming year to the point that we forget that what really matters are relationships. This kind of relationship we can find in the life of the Holy Family whose feast we celebrate this Sunday. Let us pray that the Holy Family of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus will guide us and lead us to the path that is prepared for us by God. May those families who have difficulty connecting with each other because of the restrictions caused by the pandemic not lose faith and hope in a God who has come to us to lead us to the Father. May God bless you all with a peaceful and joyful celebration of the New Year.

Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family and automatically we think of Mary, Joseph and Jesus. That is why the Lord today wants to remind us that our family is also sacred.
God always makes sure that we do not come into this world alone but in a family. The family, in turn, is special and ordinary. Ordinary, because we are used to them; we see families everywhere. Those of us who have families also know from experience that families are not perfect.
But each of them within their imperfection are special, because in some of their elements they imitate the perfect family, the perfect community of people: the Trinity.
Some have no family because they never knew them, others because they have lost them, or because they cannot be together due to one situation or another. Whatever the situation, it hurts immensely and can create a void in us.
On the other hand, when a family member is born, it fills us with immense joy. Just thinking that this new human being belongs to our family nucleus. And in the same way losing a family member hurts im-mensely, it creates an irreplaceable void.
God reveals to us that we were created to live in community. We were not created to be isolated; to be alone; we are not an island. And the most important community in our lives is our family.
The divine ideal, and I clarify "ideal" because it is not always achieved, is that each of us would be born of communal love. Where two people love each other and that is where each of us was born; and thus we were initiated into our human life.
With this God wanted to make sure that we did not come into this world alone. And that each of us could know love. Now, there are countless people who have grown up lacking one or both parents. Born in environments where love is needed.
Thus, God himself from the beginning was incarnate and came into our world. He made sure to have a mother and father here on earth. Choosing Mary and Joseph the Holy Family of Nazareth.
And that is why our family nucleus; our family community can also be called: sacred. Let's not overlook that the family of Mary, Joseph and Jesus also faced challenges, problems and difficulties to overcome. And what would be the key to gradually becoming like God; to go perfecting? The key
is love. Only love allows us to accept ourselves with our imperfections and only love allows us to always be open to forgive ourselves when those imperfections hurt us. Love is the key to community life.
And if we learn to live in community, if we are capable of learning to live honoring ourselves, loving ourselves, respecting ourselves, we have grown in our capacity to love. This is the formula of living in community. This is the formula for family living.
In the letter to the Colossians, Paul tells us: “Bear with each other and forgive each other when you have complaints against others, as the Lord has forgiven you. And above all these virtues, have love that is the bond of the perfect union ”.

Festividad de la Sagrada Familia

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, espero que hayan tenido una celebración navideña saludable, segura y alegre con su familia inmediata y seres queridos. Teniendo en cuenta la condición de salud pública en este momento de pandemia, claramente siento la diferencia de la celebración navideña de este año en comparación con los años anteriores en el pasado. Esto es ahora lo que llamamos la "nueva normalidad". Solo tenemos que enfrentar el hecho de que las formas habituales de hacer las cosas en el pasado se han ido. Necesitamos encontrar una manera de adaptarnos a esta nueva forma de hacer las cosas para asegurarnos de que todos estemos seguros y protegidos de este nuevo virus corona.
Este año 2020, además de que ya es un año para recordar u olvidar de muchas maneras dependiendo de cómo se mire, nuestra liturgia también es un poco diferente. Note que casi inmediatamente después del día de Navidad ya celebramos la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia el próximo domingo. Por lo general, toma una semana más o menos antes de que celebremos esta
fiesta después del día de Navidad. Este año se ve diferente, como si sintiera también lo extraordinario del año. Apenas celebramos la Navidad y, al día siguiente, es la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia.
Me hizo pensar en el significado de la Sagrada Familia de María, José y el niño Jesús en un pesebre. Debe haber algo en la celebración de la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia de este año que podamos impulsar nuestras energías y espíritu para sobrevivir a esta crisis de salud. Quizás Dios está tratando de hacer que nuestras mentes y corazones se vuelvan a la importancia de enfocar nuestra máxima atención en nuestras respectivas familias mientras tratamos de luchar contra esta crisis. Quizás Dios nos está diciendo que examinemos nuestras respectivas relaciones familiares y veamos si todavía nos estamos moviendo en una dirección buscando cumplir nuestras metas y misión en la vida como una familia llena de fe.
Intentemos investigar este asunto seriamente mientras celebramos este fin de semana la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Recuerde cómo la familia de Nazaret comienza su nueva vida con sencillez y plena confianza en el cuidado providencial de Dios. Quizás esto es lo que Dios quiere que hagamos este año mientras nos preparamos para afrontar otro año con esperanza y alegría. Al dar gracias a Dios por el regalo de su Hijo Jesús en esta Navidad, hagamos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para imitar el ejemplo de la Sagrada Familia en su sencillez y humildad. Al igual que la Navidad, podemos encontrarnos ocupados preparándonos para el próximo año hasta el punto de olvidar que lo que realmente importa son las relaciones. Este tipo de relación la podemos encontrar en la vida de la Sagrada Familia cuya fiesta celebramos este domingo. Oremos para que la Sagrada Familia de María, José y Jesús nos guíe y nos conduzca por el camino que Dios nos ha preparado. Que aquellas familias que tienen dificultades para conectarse entre sí debido a las restricciones causadas por la pandemia no pierdan la fe y la esperanza en un Dios que ha
venido a nosotros para conducirnos al Padre. Que Dios los bendiga a todos con una celebración pacífica y alegre del Año Nuevo.

Hoy celebramos la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia y automáticamente pensamos en María, José y en Jesús. Por eso el Señor hoy quiere recordarnos que también nuestra familia es sagrada.
Dios siempre se asegura de que no lleguemos a este mundo solitos sino en una familia. La familia, a su vez, es especial y ordinaria. Ordinaria, porque estamos acostumbrados a ellas; vemos familias por todos lados. También los que tenemos familias, sabemos por experiencia, que las familias no son perfectas. Pero cada una de ellas dentro de su imperfección son especiales, porque en algunos de sus elementos imitan la familia perfecta, la comunidad de personas perfecta: la Trinidad.
Algunos no tienen familia porque nunca la conocieron, otros porque la han perdido, o por qué no pueden estar juntos por una situación u otra. Cualquiera que sea la situación, duele inmensamente y puede crear un vacío en nosotros.
Por otro lado, cuando nace un miembro de la familia, nos llena de una alegría inmensa. Tan solo pensar que este nuevo ser humano pertenece a nuestro núcleo familiar. Y de la misma manera perder un miembro de la familia duele inmensamente, crea un vacío irremplazable.
Dios nos revela que fuimos creados para vivir en una comunidad. No fuimos creados para estar aislados; para estar solos; no somos una isla. Y la comunidad más importante de nuestras vidas es nuestra familia. El ideal divino, y aclaro “ideal” porque no siempre se logra, es que cada uno de nosotros naciéramos del amor comunitario. En donde dos personas se aman y que de ahí naciéramos cada uno de nosotros; y así fuéramos iniciados a nuestra vida humana.
Con esto Dios quería asegurarse de que no llegáramos a este mundo solitos. Y que cada uno de nosotros pudiéramos conocer el amor. Ahora, hay un sin número de personas que han crecido faltándoles uno o ambos padres. Naciendo en ambientes donde el amor les hace falta.
Así, Dios mismo desde el principio se encarnó y vino a nuestro mundo. Se aseguró de tener una madre y un padre aquí en la tierra. Escogiendo a María y a José la Sagrada Familia de Nazaret.
Y es por eso que a nuestro núcleo familiar; nuestra comunidad familiar, también se le puede llamar: sagrada. No pasemos por alto que la familia de María José y Jesús también enfrentó retos, problemas y dificultades a superar.
¿Y cuál sería la clave para irnos asemejando a Dios; para irnos perfeccionando? La clave es el amor. Solo el amor nos permite aceptarnos con nuestras imperfecciones y
solo el amor nos permite estar siempre abiertos a perdonarnos cuando esas imperfecciones nos hieren. El amor es la clave de la vida comunitaria.
Y si aprendemos a vivir en comunidad, si somos capaces de aprender a vivir honrándonos, amándonos, respetándonos, hemos crecido en nuestra capacidad de
amar. Esta es la fórmula de vivir en comunidad. Esta es la fórmula para vivir en familia. En la carta a los Colosenses, Pablo nos dice: “Sopórtense mutuamente y perdónense cuando tengan quejas contra otros, como el Señor los ha perdonado a ustedes. Y sobre todas estas virtudes, tengan amor que es el vínculo de la perfecta unión”.
WE ARE GOD’S HOLY FAMILY
The scriptures of Israel are filled with many stories of barren couples who were miraculously
granted the gift of children by God. Surely the best known among these is the first reading
from today, from which Luke took inspiration when he recounted the miraculous birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah and Elizabeth, and the more miraculous birth of Jesus to Mary
and Joseph. In each instance, we are given examples or role models of those who trusted in
God. More than examples of those who trust, they are models
of self-surrender. They abandoned their own presuppositions and prejudices about the workings of the world
and turned their lives over to belief in a God who can make life
grow where none ought to; a God who can turn death
around into a new and unimagined life; a God who can, today, take a tiny child of humble parents in an insignificant town
and make him into a light for all the world. This is what we, as God’s holy family, are called
to do each day: to trust not in ourselves and the way we think
things should be, but to open ourselves and surrender ourselves

Why does the liturgy begin with a procession? It is not just a
practical matter of getting the ministers of the liturgy from the
sacristy to the sanctuary. The procession is a powerful sign of who we are as Christian people. We are not static, staying in one place. We are going somewhere. Our procession leads us to the altar, sign of Christ’s presence in our midst. We move, we process,
because we recognize our need for what Christ is preparing for us at that table. We go forward eagerly, because we are hungry
for that heavenly food. This procession is an orderly
one: servers, deacon, priest presider. Each is set apart by distinctive vesture: albs for the altar servers, dalmatic for the deacon, chasuble for the priest. The procession is an image of the
hierarchical structure of the Church. On a deeper level it is an image of unity in diversity. We are all on a journey to the heavenly city, but each of us is
clothed with different gifts. We all receive the call to service,
but not in the same way. Only by coming together in all our
wonderful variety can we achieve the work of the kingdom.

SOMOS LA SAGRADA FAMILIA DE DIOS
Las lecturas de Israel están repletas de relatos de parejas
estériles a quienes Dios les concedió el milagro de tener hijos. Sin duda el relato más
conocido es el de la primera lectura de hoy: Lucas se inspiró
en este relato para contar el milagroso nacimiento de Juan
Bautista, hijo de Zacarías e Isabel, y el nacimiento aun más
milagroso de Jesús, hijo de María y José. En ambos casos,
vemos ejemplos o modelos a seguir de personas que confiaron en Dios. Más que ser ejemplos de
personas que confiaron, son modelos de entrega incondicional
de sí. Abandonaron sus propios preconceptos y prejuicios sobre el
funcionamiento del mundo y entregaron sus vidas a creer en
un Dios que puede hacer que haya vida en lugares en donde era inconcebible que la hubiera; un Dios que puede convertir la
muerte en una vida nueva e inimaginable; un Dios que puede,
hoy, tomar a un niñito de padres humildes en un pueblo insignificante y convertirlo en una luz para el mundo entero. Esto es a lo que se nos llama a hacer cada día como Sagrada Familia de Dios: confiar no sólo
en nosotros mismos y en la manera en que pensamos que
deberían ser las cosas, sino a abrirnos y entregarnos en fe a un
Dios de promesa infinita.

LOS RITUALES
Los rituales son acciones que separamos de lo ordinario para significar con ellas algo extraordinario, algo que va más allá de nuestras propias emociones y palabras.
De hecho, los rituales no se explican, se experimentan y en esa experiencia se agotan las explicaciones porque no son
necesarias. En lugar de definirlos, invitamos a las personas a que experimenten, no tanto lo que hemos experimentado nosotros, sino lo que el ritual ha hecho en nosotros. Los rituales
son acciones sagradas que llevan en sí mismas todo lo que las palabras no son
capaces de transmitir. De hecho, la experiencia del ritual nada tiene que ver con palabras, sino con acciones concretas
de participación mediante nuestros sentidos y nuestra disposición interior.
Con esto no es posible afirmar que el ritual es algo mágico, sino más bien un espacio de la vida en el cual la gracia de
Dios se hace presente, evidente y transparente; nosotros nos disponemos a
que esa gracia transforme nuestra vida por completo, incluyendo nuestras emociones. La Eucaristía es un “ritual de rituales”. Ahí hay palabras y acciones, la palabra misma es sagrada y las acciones
van más allá de nuestras palabras. Este ritual nos sumerge en el tiempo de
Dios de una manera sensible.

Following the current orders from Governor Newsom and the directives from the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles, effective immediately, churches are allowed to do
worships services when it is done outdoors. In view of this, we are going to set up
our Sunday masses outdoors in our church parking lot.
Our IN– PERSON OUTDOOR Mass times will be as follows:
For social distancing reasons, we do
have the 6 feet requirement.
In order for you to attend, YOU WILL NEED TO CALL & RESERVE.
Please call the parish office at 323.660.0034. If the line is busy, please call again.
Reservations will be taken the week BEFORE the Mass itself.
Confirmation number will be required for all attendees. Limited capacity.

request in the ONLINE MASS button with sub division MASS INTENTIONS.
