Uniform Policy
In 2021 Magdalene Catholic College will be transitioning into a new uniform. Students in
Year 7
will wear the new uniform and students in Years 8 & 9 will continue to wear the 2020 uniform.
The Transitional Uniform Policy has common elements to both uniforms and also outlines the
elements of each Uniform.
Common Elements:

Hair
¨Hair must be neat and tidy at all times and in such a condition that it does not invite comment.
¨Hair should be one natural colour. Extremes of colour (including jet black and platinum blonde) are not acceptable.
¨Extremes of cut, dyeing, mousse, highlights and sprays are not acceptable.
¨Shoulder-length hair needs to be fully tied back off the face and eyes
¨Only blue, red or white ribbons or accessories are to be worn
Jewellery
¨No jewellery except: A watchOne set of small plain, silver or gold studs or
sleepers to be worn in the ear lobes
A neck chain (with a Christian religious symbol) is permitted to be worn under the uniform
¨No wrist or ankle chains or bands to be worn
¨No other visible or covered piercings are to be
worn (this includes clear/plastic piercings)
Nails
¨No nail polish, false finger nails (acrylic nails), long nails or make up to be worn [students will be asked to remove noticeable or excessive makeup]
¨Nails to be kept trimmed to a suitable length
Additional Notes
¨Make-up is not to be worn to school, this is inclusive of false eyelashes.
¨Additional underclothing must be plain and not visible (and is not a substitute for a jumper/blazer)
¨The wearing of the College hat is compulsory, in the playground and for sport
Hair

¨ Hair should be a natural colour
¨ Fringe should be cut above the eyebrows
¨ Hair styles should be moderate with no extremes, for example mullets are not acceptable. The following are ALSO not acceptable: long hair below the collar, over the ears or eyes; undercuts
¨ Very short / extreme crew cuts — hair must not be less than a Number 2 blade
¨No pony tails, tied-up hair or hair worn in ‘buns’
¨ All boys must be clean shaven
Jewellery

Additional Notes

¨Magdalene tracksuit (may be worn to and from College on Sports Day)
¨The College hat must be worn outside buildings and is compulsory all year for sport. The wearing of the College hat is compulsory all year, during sport and in the playground.

The College reserves the right to use its discretion in determining appropriate wearing of uniform and/or student appearance. If there is any uncertainty about any of the above uniform items/notes, ultimately, all decisions about what is acceptable or unacceptable will be made by the College.
Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn on Mufti Days.
