CBS’ Current Rankings – cont.

3 main Ranking Criteria behind the Best Masters’ Ranking:

1. The Program's Reputation:

2,5 pts are given by SMBG-EDUNIVERSAL firm according to the opinions of HR managers; 2,5 pts are given according to the number of the Eduniversal Palmes of the school.

2. Salary of the First Employment:

This information is provided by the schools and universities and verified by EDUNIVERSAL; To take into account the differences between countries,

the salary is indexed to the average annual salary per inhabitant;

3. Students' Satisfaction:

This criterion is an essential part of the added-valued of the Ranking; The survey, comprised of 11 questions, is send by e-mail to recent graduates regarding their satisfaction with their completed programs.

A mark is given when at least 10% of the students have answered the survey

History of CBS’ work with Rankings

• Ranking of CBS started in the early 2000 with FT Master in Management, followed by FT EMBA and FT European Business School ranking

• Full time MBA ranked since 2010 by Economist and QS • CSR focus ranked by Aspen Institute since 2007

• CBS ranked by Eduniversal and Webometrics since 2008

• CBS’ research ranked by UT Dallas since 2010 (top 100 business schools)

• Ad hoc ranking of research in Long Range Planning in 2008 • Ad hoc ranking of research in International Business in 2006

• The organisation of rankings was locally anchored at program level, data was delivered locally, without central quality control

Present organisation of Ranking activities

Organisation is now centrally located with me as coordinating elementClose dialogue with programs

Central selection of important rankings based on ’quality’Data delivered centrally, by me, based on decentralized reportsCommon principles of communication established - coordination with

programs, international office, and communications department • Background analyses of results are produced centrally and

distributed to all potential communicators (, programs, marketing, senior management)

More emphasis on other quality indicators (benchmarking, accreditation)

Rankings Listed by Importance to CBS

CBS is a European School, with some programs competing globally. The following list represent rankings which should be considered relevant – in the following order:

Financial Times (master in general management (including CEMS MIM), Full time MBA, EMBA, European Business School – potentially also Executive education (non-degree courses)

The Economist – Which MBA (Full Time MBA)

Aspen Institute – Beyond Grey Pinstripes (CSR research and footprint on MBA)

Ranking Communication Strategy

The following principles are currently being implemented:

•Consider 3-year averages rather than one year results which fluctuate more or less, dependent on methodology

•Be specific on what each ranking actually tells – and what not •Prepare to explain the methodology behind each ranking

•Underline that ranking is but one among several indicators of ‘quality’ and should not stand alone

•Don’t send out press releases on positive results – they may decline later, but maintain an updated website with most recent results

Current Ranking Challenges

• Major Challenge – delivery of information on graduates and employers: • Alumni Contact Data

• Career information (employment, salary, international mobility) • Employer contact information

• Coordinating Communication to external stakeholders (explaining drops) • Placing ranking results in the right perspective/reducing importance

Rankings’ role in CBS’ strategy

• Rankings don’t have a dominant role in CBS’ strategy, however in the development contract with Minister of Science the following goals are listed:

• Position as no. 3 in Europe at the UT Dallas ranking (currently no. 6) • Growth in no. of articles in the FT 45 journal list

• Indirectly, program rankings influence no. of international applicants, and growth in this area is a goal for CBS

International Offices’ Role in Rankings

International offices can support a university’s ranking position by • Expanding the number and quality of international exchange partners • Encourage students to go abroad on exchange or free movers • Organize international internships

• Support participation in international case competitions • Establish international summer university programs • Contribute to the internationalization of faculty and staff

• Support faculty exchange, international publication, and joint international research projects
