Hybrid College Algebra Committee member (2008- present) – co-created the Hybrid College Algebra course at Georgia Southern by re-designing the traditional College Algebra course; continuously work to update, improve, and standardize the course for the department

General Education - Critical Analysis and Synthesis of Information Retreat (May 2014)

General Education Council member and Assessment Sub-committee member (Spring 2011-May 2012) – Help to provide leadership for General Education at Georgia Southern. Assist in providing oversight of the delivery of general education content as well as new university, state, and accreditation requirements for General Education for the undergraduate programs at Georgia Southern. Help enhance campus understanding of General Education content.

Study Skills Workshop Teacher for Academic Success Center (Spring 2011, Spring 2012, Spring 2014) – Taught Math Study Skills workshop to current GSU students with the focus on their current study habits and how to change them in

order to be successful in their math courses.

GRE Math Review Class Teacher (Spring 2011) – Given by the Academic Success Center, I reviewed math concepts for students who were preparing to take the GRE (Graduate Records Exam) to enter graduate school. The focus was on identifying specific tactics to use to solve math problems.

CANDLER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

P-16 Council committee member (1996-1998) – assisted and participated in the comprehensive and collaborative statewide effort aimed at raising expectations and ensuring student success from pre-school (P) through post-secondary education (16)

Served as Co-PI on the National Science Foundation CCLI Grant Proposal, The Hybrid Mathematics Project ($162, 577) in May 2008 to support the Hybrid College Algebra Project. The proposal received ratings of Good (3) and Very Good (2), but was unfortunately not funded.

Assisted Charles Hodges, Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology at GSU, with two grant proposals for the NSF by collecting self-efficacy and achievement data in Math 1111 in Spring and Fall 2010. Proposal was presented at the 2011 American Educational Research Association.

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS

My interests lie in properly integrating technology in my math classes; basic mathematical modeling to help students make sense of the real-world around them through mathematics; mathematics education, in general; helping to make high school level mathematics align with post-secondary level mathematics; attending mathematics seminars/workshops to learn how to improve teaching strategies for today’s student learners.

COURSES DEVELOPED/RE-DESIGNED

Hybrid College Algebra – assisted in the development of Hybrid College Algebra in Summer 2008, modeled after the University of Alabama’s Hybrid courses. The Hybrid College Algebra class is a two-fold experience for students. The students get one day per

week of lecture and face to face discussion, and all the course assessment is done online, and includes homework assignments, quizzes, chapter tests, and a final exam.

Hybrid Trigonometry – developed Hybrid Trigonometry in Summer 2010, modeled after the University of Alabama’s Hybrid courses. The Hybrid Trigonometry course is a two-fold experience for students, as it is in Hybrid College Algebra. The students get one day per week of lecture and face to face discussion, and all the course assessment is done online, and includes homework assignments, quizzes, chapter tests, and a final exam. Online Trigonometry – developed Online Trigonometry in Summer 2011. This course is offered as one of the courses counting toward GSU’s completely online Bachelor of General Studies degree.
